My fear at this point is Clemson is going to lose in the ACC Championship game and the Fvckeyes are going to get back into the playoffs.

I think 1-loss Clemson or 2-loss Stanford (with PAC12 champ) gets in over Ohio State.

I also think UNC wins. Not sure OSU would replace them tho.

UNC should be in if they beat Clemson - otherwise this committee needs a serious overhaul.

B1G - CCG winner is in
Big12 - No way they send more than one and Oklahoma is in.
SEC - Lookout if Bama loses b/c no way Florida is in
Pac12 - Could Stanford really have a chance with 2 losses? Not over either potential ACC champ. Definitely over Florida though.
Non-conference champ alternatives? I don't really see it.

So I don't really see a scenario that leaves the ACC champ waiting at the altar.

Hell no, Youd have the exact same set of issues but with two loss teams instead of one loss teams. Saturday was terrible, but it was also amazing football because the stakes were so high.

This. If UNC wins (assuming not a blowout) and Alabama loses, the playoff is Oklahoma, Sparty/Iowa, UNC, and Clemson.

Exactly, or possibly no Clemson IF Stanford looks great against USC, because of that whole "conference champs get preferential treatment clause" which we don't really know how much they do or do not weight.

There is no chance though that 11-1 Ohio State sitting at home gets in over 12-1 Clemson. Clemson will have wins over Notre Dame and Florida State, which are better than Ohio State's wins over Michigan and ... oh yeah, that's it. There is literally no chance that Ohio State jumps Clemson.

But it alleviates the "unequivocally better" clause for us.

I would go with a 6 team play off, with the #1 and #2 getting a bye. I don't think there are 8 teams that deserve to get in any given year, but there are always at least 5 or 6. 6 teams would ensure the best teams get in, in my opinion.

Would there still be controversy? Of course, but you'll never eliminate controversy in CFB because it is all subjective. The point isn't to eliminate controversy, but to make the best attempt at crowning the champion of college football.

Ideally for me though I would like to just see a +1 after bowl season. I know it won't happen because Americans worship at the altar of playoffs, but to me I would be satisfied with playing the bowl games and then having #1 and #2 meeting in a championship game.

IMO you need an elite defender at each of the three levels and then at least 2 average to above average defenders to field a defense of the caliber we should expect in year 7.

How many teams do you consider elite?

It's only going to be year 3 of the defense, next season...

If we would have beat Stanford, and got left out, an 8 team playoff would be near and dear to your heart...

I think that pretty much locks us in to a NY6 bowl, barring the committee doing something truly crazy with the final rankings.

Crazy to think in an 8 team playoff we'd be sitting on pins and needles this weekend praying for Clemson to beat UNC and/or USC to beat Stanford.

Not that I'm saying join the ACC because of this but UNC has one more game and could jump us .

I think the winner of Mich St/ Iowa will jump Oklahoma next week.

Also, ND sitting at #8 has to get the Irish in a NY6 bowl.

Yeah - the committee has given us more credit for our losses than our wins.

I just can't ever comprehend the fans who don't see the value in playing a great Irish team.

Btw. Has anyone watched Iowa play this year and said 'WOW' thats a really good team? Big Ten school getting credit, just like an SEC Florida at 18 playing in a championship flop..

IIRC... the last time a highly ranked Michigan State team played Iowa, the Hawkeyes beat them down. I don't think that will happen Saturday but it would also not shock me to see them beat Spartie. For everyone saying Iowa isn't that good, what makes them think Mich St is much better? A win against tOSU, while impressive, doesn't convince me that MSU will just walk in and beat Iowa.

No, they're pretty pitiful for an undefeated team. It wouldn't surprise me if MSU puts a cartoon knot on their head and they fall down to the 8th-9th spot. Way overrated IMO.

Navy at ND will be added to that list too after they beat Army

*So will: MSU-Iowa and Bama-Florida. UNC-Clemson doesn't qualify because UNC has 2 wins over FCS schools. All in all, ND had 4 out of 7.

So are we gonna end up stuck playing Ohio State? I think we can definitely beat them but seeing how they played last year in the playoffs they have the potential to be really good. Id feel much better about having Iowa

Iowa reminds me of the first Michigan St team that was good under Dantonio. Didn't blow you away but they don't beat themselves and play solid D. Whiskey showed a graph on points of TO's and they were +58 along with MSU. ND a -31. They played well enough to matter this Saturday, the Irish didn't and have only themselves to blame for not being #1 right now.
