Go big or go home -- ND baby!

By no means do I think we'll win if we play anything like the past two weeks.

Don't have a good feeling about this one. I think the game is a one score game for most of the way, but Stanford scores late to put the game out of reach.

ND would win this one if:
1) - The OL was healthy
2) - CJ was the RB
3) - Cage and KR would play at full strength

Have been waiting for injuries to cost the team a game this year, think this is when it finally catches up. Praying that I am wrong.

On paper, we lose this game. However we have generally played pretty well against good opponents on the road. I think this will be a pretty close game throughout. I don't think either team will ever lead by more then 10.

In the end, I think Stanford wins the battle of the trenches on both sides of the ball. We especially struggle to get yards on the ground and Kelly abandons it midway through the 2nd quarter. Kizer outplays Hogan but it's not enough.

Stanford 34
ND 27

Irish have been sleeping walking the last two weeks just waiting for this game. It's finally here. Mental focus will be sharp all week. KVR's replacement will be so juiced at the chance to play, their adrenaline will remain high the entire game and we won't miss a beat. Cage will have fresh legs and ready to go. The offense will be looking to atone for the sleep walking against BC. This may end up being our most complete game of the year.

I'm with Irish#1 on this one. These guys have been waiting for this battle ever since those first rankings came out with ND at #4 and they went HAM in the locker room. I think there was a little bit of looking ahead going on, and I think it's fantastic that the trap didn't spring all the way, as it might have in the past.

They're gonna be ready to come out and show everyone that they're a playoff team, because they know this is the shot they need to make a statement.

Irish by 10, but it doesn't even feel that close.

(Also, I don't think Stanford is that great. Contain Hogan, don't let him scramble on third down or in the red zone... or at least punish him when he does run. I expect Jaylon to be a heat-seeking missile in this one, like he was against Gardner last year).

I think the O gets its act together this week, but I just don't see us having an answer for McCaffrey. I think he goes ape shit on us and single-handedly wins Stanford the game.

I woke up from a nightmare this morning. Toby Gerhart and McCaffrey were starting a "White Stanford Running Backs who Almost Won the Heisman Against ND" club.

yeah, I mean I hate to be all Chicken Little and shit, but I'm thinking 300 yards of total O would be on the light side.

I'm not that frightened by Stanford. I think ND jumps out to an early lead on a Fuller bomb. Game goes back and forth most of the way, but never feels like it's in jeopardy. Yoon nails a long FG late in the 4th to put ND up 2 scores and seal the game.

ND 27 Stanford 17

Then everyone will come back to the post game thread and complain about missed opportunities, and how this win should have looked more impressive. Many posters will again try and rationalize how Oklahoma will certainly be jumping us this week!

As I stated in the Stanford game thread I I think both defenses struggle in a high scoring affair. We lose the turnover battle 3-1 and thats the difference in the game. We lose 45-41. The offense puts up huge numbers and the defense Gives up huge numbers.

This game is ND's. Offense will come out with some fire. Stanford will score some points but I think we get back on rhythm. Haven't been too impressed with Stanford's defense as much as I have been with their offense. Hogan isn't a #1 draft pick but he shows the ability to beat most teams. 35-31 ND.

Actually Stanford D is solid in the redzone. Yoon will be needed most likely and he's been on fire. Maybe 38-34.

VanGorder puts together the best defensive game plan since Texas, players rise to the occasion, BK puts Kiser in the position to win.

30-19 ND

My first impression is that we lose. KVR injury is huge. If Daniel Cage isn't back I'd almost guarantee it.

If the defense holds Stanford to 19 pts. I will be super impressed. Don't see it happening though. Most teams have at least dropped 20 on the defense - add KVR, Onwalu injury into the whole mix and it seems ND will need to score at leas 30 something points to win this thing.

I think the KVR injury is gigantic. He's been extremely good against the run, and better against the pass than most realize. The type of coverage him and Luke are asked to play is extremely difficult.

That injury -- to me -- almost guarantees a few more breakdowns this week than we're used to seeing. It means Stanford is going to make more plays in the passing game than they should be able to... which means picking up more first downs. It means they'll have an easier time running to the perimeter, which is where McCaffrey excels.

I just don't see how ND holds Stanford below 38 points or so. Can ND score 40+? We've done that 4 times, and only once on the road. So I'll say Notre Dame loses 38-31 on frustrating defensive breakdowns.

I don't think the KVR injury is a s big this week as it would against another opponent, I mean who would we need him to have covered? Stanford doesn't have a receiver with over 500 yards.

Sellout to stop Mccarfrey, I think thats the key. He is the 2nd leading rusher in the nation and the 2nd leading reciever on his team. Wouldn't mind having Jaylon to shadow him the whole game, on blowing up the run and covering him if he goes out for a pass.

They're 107th in RZ defense. We are 10th

We are 32nd in scoring offense. They're 21st.

Sadly I agree with this 100%. I can't see this defense not giving up big plays to McCaffrey so Kizer and the offense are going to have to go crazy. The positive is we have the players to do it and Stanford's D isn't as good as years past.

This is definitely not the team you want to play if your team struggles to make tackles at the LB and DB level. They will turn 4 yard gains into 40 yard gains very quickly. I think ND will have to win the turnover battle and have an 80% red zone TD rate to win.

Standford is a good team, but I think we are better. BVG will dial up the D. I think we start slow on offense, then pick it up in the second half. I agree with Irish#1...we have been looking forward to this game....and we will be ready.

On a personal cruel twist of fate, I in all probability will not be able to watch the game due to my wife making plans to go to a couples dinner that night. We have been married a long time, she knows this is a big game, I can't figure out what I have done to piss her off...

New some needs to bring his leg as well every kick needs to be in the end zone.
