I’m usually one who preaches patience with recruits that we expect to commit on our time (i.e. Tranquill a couple of years ago), but personally, I’m done with Hayes. Come, go, whatever.

He’s a kid who has barely played any tackle football, and when he has played, he hasn’t looked all-world and he gets hurt. He has shoulder issues. He’s an INCREDIBLE athlete in shorts and a T-shirt, but has yet to wow me with pads on. But whatever, I’m not a scout, so I have no problem with ND still pursuing him, even as he takes visits.

And the way he played USC, as much as I loved it, wasn’t exactly a shining indictment on his character. Even though he told everyone on ND’s side that he was going to decommit, he still lied to the USC coaches and told them multiple times he was still going to USC, even wearing their gear at every camp and visiting USC out of the blue (and re-stating his love for them) a few weeks before he decommitted. But it was USC so I overlooked it (even though I enjoyed it lol).

But my breaking point (and the worst part)? He and his family bought that Urban Meyer BS hook, line, and sinker. You want to go to OSU for the big-time football? I don’t blame you and God speed. But after visiting ND SEVERAL times (don’t buy his bs about visiting only twice) and knowing exactly what ND does for you, you’re seriously going to buy that line that OSU seniors are leaving school with multiple 6 figure job offers? For real?

Done with you. Great for our rankings if he signs with ND, but if he doesn’t, a big whatever from me. Please sign with Meyer and give him the same drama that a certain overrated LB from South Bend we let Meyer have. Please. He actually sounds like a great kid, but for me, I’m over this recruitment.

Great post!! Sums up my feelings exactly.

Home visits will be huge for all teams, in all likelihood. This kid seems like he can be easily swayed, so I think ND still is in the thick of things.

Seems like we were a top 2, us and USC, with USC receiving the commitment.

Then, after USC fires Sarkisian, USC is out of the picture, and suddenly OSU and MSU are in the picture. And now, OSU and MSU are favorites.

What does this tell us? He's not interested in ND. ND is probably his parents push, not his. This looks like a host of previous commits that didn't really want ND, but their parents did (and we know how those turned out).

If he chooses us great. If not, no big deal. It may just not be for him.

Question.... Is anyone concerned about his shoulder problems. We have seen what problems that injury can do to a career.

I think that it tells us something much simpler: he wants to stay somewhat close to home. That ND was in it with USC when he was out there, says to me that ND has a special attraction to him.

Idk if we are going to land this kid or not, but you are right. He has never said anything but glowing remarks about ND and he has had a great relationship with the coaches since the beginning. I think he's a good kid, having fun with the process, only he wants to stay close to home. Maybe he was never going to end up at USC, but there were certainly things going on there that would make me think twice before I would send my son to go into a situation like that. I still hope we are the destination, but if not, I will be okay too. Let's just keep winning and let the chips fall where they may.

Call me paranoid, I followed Hayes for a bit on twitter and since deleted him after I realized he's a drama mama, but he seems to be in a serious relationship with his GF.

East Lansing is 72 miles from home for him, South Bend is 215. This is the type of scenario where I could see that mattering to the recruit.

If he's cancelling two officials, it tells me someone in the family must have stepped in and said let's get serious and think this through. If it's down to ND/MSU, maybe they did a little research on Urbie's pack of lies?

Yes. Shoulder injuries at that young of an age can become chronic, and he's being asked to play a power position. He's a high risk lottery ticket that is worth taking because he could be great if he pans out.

Wishful thinking here, but I really hope Daelin and his mom did their homework on Urban's recruiting pitch and it got utterly exposed.

If he handles his love life like he has handled his recruitment...he'll be on to GF #3 by the time he needs to make a commitment.

You know, I think this kid wants to please people. Just that; that is all. I think he is far from a 'bad' kid or a 'flake.'

The more and more I see of this recruiting thing, the more I am beginning to think that with all the media attention, and what gets lost in the translation, the good guys, and people pleasers get featured differently than they really are. Kind of like the camera 'adding' ten pounds; people that make the kind of effort a people pleaser does, look really out there.

Ironically, if my thesis has legs, then a good kid may come off like a flake, or worse.

Now all we need is for my thesis to have shoulders!

It seems to me the most interesting piece of info that seems legit lately is that he spoke so highly of UM after is Columbus visit, and inside sources put the Bucks out behind the Irish and Spartans.

OH WAIT A MINUTE MSU WANTS HIM!

MSU may want him, but do they want him bad enough to offer him?

Commitment between boyfriends and girlfriends = I will be with you until something better comes along, or we just get sick of each other.

If this is the case, then I hope he waits until after November 20 to decide. After watching MSU play both Meechigan and Nebraska to a tie (the one win and one loss was largely luck), I believe they are seriously overrated and O$U may expose MSU.

I have been saying this but was told he is just a kid that doesn't know what he wants. People bust on others for much less then this kid has done. Just let him go to MSU and let them deal with him.

There are worse things than an 18 year old making the biggest decision of his life and not being certain what he wants. He's not hurting anybody. Let the man live.

So I understand this way of thinking but I also think there is another side to this that is relevant. What about the coaches and their families. Coaches are pulled away from their families at great lengths to coach their team and recruit. There should be some semblance of respect for their time. The reality is some of these kids just tell everybody what they want to hear even if it isn't the truth. I'm not saying that is happening here but if the interest isn't legitimate then tell the coach so he can move on and spend his time with a prospect that might appreciate it, as he's not able to spend that time with his family. Think about the countless hours that were spent on Eddie V for him to basically give the coaches a big F you. Again, not saying thats the case but I do wish more kids gave a crap about that perspective then there own self absorbed interests.

End rant.

Shooo brother....are you are talking about entitled teenage athletes who have been told how great they are since they were 9 years old? Good luck getting an ounce of consideration out of that!

What i don't get is, he went from not ever mentioning Ohio State and only talking about USC and Notre Dame to now only focusing on Michigan State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. He now believes in Urban Meyer does he not know what he did at Florida or Ohio State. If we get him cool if not whatever i don't care. I think he just loves the attention.

Good point. But...

1) telling the media what it wants to hear isn't always the same as telling the coaches, it actually might be very respectful to the caoches to give the public impression that they are doing an excellent job recruiting you,
2) coaches need to have some perspective, based on their experience and chosen profession,
3) some nice kids are generally taken in by all the salesmen being impressive, as they are paid to be, and

slightly unrelated...

4) There is a breed of kid who is concerned about graduation rates, tutors, etc., but is not concerned with getting the BEST POSSIBLE education/degree. To those kids, the marginal differences between ND, UM, and OSU are less significant (even if they might not consider, say, Ole Miss or Oregon).

I'd like him to choose ND, but I don't want to land him if he's not a good fit and is not going to be content. That's a judgment call for the coaches.

I was just busy being schizophrenic over in another thread with a couple of guys, or myself, I don't know. But that reminded me. I needed to check in over here! What'd I miss?
