Just win. That is the ONLY thing in our control, everything else is just noise.
So I guess that's in, then. Shut 'er down, mods. No need for this board. Just win.

Your point would be well-placed in the Notre Dame locker room. The players and coaches should be concerning themselves with winning and nothing else. We're fans. We yap. Nothing is in our control beyond what tiny bit of crowd noise each of us can provide at Notre Dame Stadium.

I'm excited for the ranking we currently hold. But with so many big games ahead for those in the top 15, and conference championship games, we are just as capable of being dropped in the rankings as we are moving up. Even if we win out.

Far enough. Bygones be bygones. I just assume to not waste cycles thinking about hypotheticals. To each their own.

Haha I'm exactly the opposite. I've been really tempted to start a 2016 Quarterback Controversy thread, but I'm holding off until the off-season.

No it did not. That's the biggest bullshit myth out there about this whole process.

Correct. I believe they got in because:

- SOS
- Impressive win in Conference Championship
- Eye Test...they just looked stronger than TCU and Baylor

Yup, and people argue that their SOS wasn't that great. While true, TCU and Baylor's SOS was remarkably terrible.

Haha, certainly opposite. My mind would go crazy trying to think about all of the possibilities with ND, let alone everything else in life, work, family, etc.. I am very much a "on the fly" type of guy.

Question for everyone: Would you rather play in one of the other New Year's 6 games (Peach, Fiesta, etc.) and win, or make the playoff, but lose the semifinal game?

Herbstreit was on Mike and Mike yesterday morning, talking about the Playoff Committee. He said that the coaches dominated the deliberations, and the committee put a HUGE emphasis on Xs and Os, as well as the "eye test". Considering how much higher ND was ranked than even most of us expected them to be, I would say it's not a bad bet that the Committee is pretty impressed with ND.

Or another one. Would you rather guarantee a New Years 6 bowl today, or roll the dice we win out, others stumble, and we make the playoffs.

I'll take a major bowl win over a playoff loss any freakin day... who the hell would rather lose in the playoffs???

ex-post, sure, but I'd take a smaller chance at winning in the playoffs over a larger chance at winning in a major bowl.

Same here, but I know some fans would argue that it's playoffs (and even NC) or bust.

The question posed clearly included old 'knowing the outcomes ahead of time' hypothetical...

True. I'd say hard for me to come up with that hypothetical without knowing that outcome, unfortunately.

Same. Which felt better, losing to Alabama in the NCG, or beating LSU last year (Not that it was a big bowl, but it was good competition)?

Just the three hours of the game? LSU. The entire month of December? Alabama.

"Eye test" is also reflected in statistical measures where ND is second overall to Clemson. Noteworthy is ND's Offensive Efficiency ranking of fifth which is behind only Baylor and ahead of TCU. ND's SOS against opponents played so far is ranked third with Alabama, LSU and Stanford in the teens. (After those three, there is a significant drop in SOS)
FEI COLLEGE FOOTBALL RATINGS 2015

Notre Dame is also ranked second statistically in 90th percentile game performance, which is "a way to evaluate the teams that produce elite opponent-adjusted single-game results at a high rate." Clemson and Notre Dame and only five other teams have reached the 90th percentile performance in four games. The others were Alabama, LSU, USC, Michigan and Tennessee.
FEI Week 9: 90th Percentile Update

Notre Dame's offense is also first in Rushing S&P+, eighth in Passing S&P, and first in IsoPPP+, which measures explosiveness. 2015 NCAA S&P+ RATINGS, OFFENSE

The statistical analyses figures put emphasis on game performance adjusted for opponent and measure efficiency in non-garbage time.

BTW, NM State is ranked 126th out of 128 teams and Kansas is 125th. FEI COLLEGE FOOTBALL RATINGS 2015

It's incredible how much better Clemson's FEI is than anyone else.

Does the committee see this stuff or use it in their analysis?

Tim Cowlishaw (from Dallas) just had a lot of negative things to say about ND. He basically thinks it's a joke Baylor is ranked below ND, and "they only beat Temple by 4. If Baylor went to Temple, they'd win by 35."

Baylor would actually have to have the balls to schedule it. Temple would be way too hard of an OOC game for them.

The best team Baylor has faced so far is 5-4 on the year.

Their schedule is 20-36.

It's his job as a Texas guy to fight for Texas schools... it's also his job as someone on ESPN's payroll to hate all things ND... nothing new.

Baylor with their healthy QB probably would have beaten Temple easily. They also wouldn't have done as well as we did in a monsoon at Clemson.
