I'm so jacked up for Battlefront that I am literally gonna tweak my budget and get better internet so I can try and actually be good online.
How good internet do you actually need? I'll be completely new to online gaming if and when I get the Xbox. I have Xfinity Blast, which is 150 Mbps.

Hahaha I think you'll be just fine. I'm operating at nearly the bare-minimum for online gaming right now, and when there are two of us using the internet at once, it's impossible (which is NOT what I was told when I signed up; I still need to call them and talk to them about that), and you are well above where I'm at. I didn't even know you could get internet that fast at a reasonable price lol.

So it's good? I honestly have no idea about anything technology-related. I just got this one because it was the best package that included the TV channels I wanted. By upgrading the TV, I got the internet upgrade without much (any?) extra cost. I also have a home phone and the triple play bundles are much more attractive than the two-service bundles.

So I'd be able to play while my wife is on Netflix on the Kindle or something?

If you like asymmetrical class-based FPS, Lion, you might be interested in Nosgoth-- Vampires v. Humans. Free-to-play and currently in open beta:

Absolutely. I just did some research and found that true (modern) high-speed internet isn't even available in my neighborhood right now based on my provider. Looks like I'll be cancelling and switching providers lol. I'll get nearly triple the speed for the same price if I switch. I bundled my current internet with DirecTV when I bought my house, and it was a good deal for the first year, but not so now.

For reference, I'm at 6 Mbps. I can watch Netflix without many issues, but downloading computer updates and general files takes longer than it should, and it's impossible for two of us to be streaming different things at the same time. I'd imagine that at the speeds you have, you could set up three different consoles in your house, play all of them online at the same time, while watching different things on Netflix on four different TV's, and still be okay.

Yeah, we have mid range wifi through fios and have iPad, kindle, vita, ps4 CPUs, multiple smart tvs with Netflix/prime, all that stuff,... all hooked up at one point or another... With the ps4, regardless of what else is using wifi, I've never had any issues, at all... And again our internet isn't bottom barrel, but it's pretty far from top quality also...

If you go to speedtest.net, anything above 10 Up and 10 Down is good. If you have 150 in either youll have an amazing connection.

10mbs upload would be ridiculous for most users. I think the average cable internet does about 1mbs upload speed which is fine. You've got the download speed right, 10-20mbs is what to expect on normal cable. I'm hitting 17mbs right now on basic Time Warner and 1.18mbs on upload.

If Comcast is offering Xfinity Blast for $60/month for 150mbs download I need to drop Time Warner, as long as I can get Comcast here. Where do you see 150mbs, Wizards? I'm seeing up to 75mbs for their best package.

Upload is basically irrelevant in online gaming, so of course the package I have on Comcast has me at around 20 for each download and upload.

That being said does anyone have Google Fiber? I heard the speeds are ridiculous and was wondering the effect on online gaming.

I never said $60 a month. My bundle is about $160 with HBO, Starz, and Showtime in year two of a contract.

I guess Internet options in my area are too limited for deals like that.

I would have to pay $145 for Internet ONLY if I wanted those speeds lol.

I'd be surprised if your upload speed is the same as your download speed, something is going on there. I'm thinking either your download speed is getting hampered by something, or you're off on your upload speed math and it's actually much lower. Typically your download speed will always be 5x your upload speed. I agree that upload speed is basically irrelevant in online gaming, it really only comes in handy when file sharing with a friend or uploading video.

Sorry, I pulled the $60 off a Comcast promotion website for their 75mbs package, I didn't see the 150 one, but I didn't look around much.

In Vegas we offer 300 mbps for 84.99 a month

Fucking Time Warner...I pay like $65/month for 15mbs Standard service and only because they seem to be the only one that carries my area. Every time I call another company they say "Sorry, we don't cover your area."

So I can get 20/2 for the same price I'm currently getting 5/2 (?). Will that make a big enough difference? I want to be able to play multi-player online without kicking my wife off of Netflix every time, but if that would still be questionable I might hold out a year until they upgrade the options in our area.

I'm counting on you and Camp for Xbox Live friendage so you need to step up your Internet game before I get my console.

BestBuy offering a free game and a $50 gift card with the purchase of an Xbox One console. Pretty legit.

I have 20 down and have never had problems nor ever experienced any lag really.

Got a pretty good deal on XB1 last night. $350 for the 500GB Gears of War bundle, plus got a $50 BestBuy gift card and my choice of free game (got FIFA). Feel free to add me, wizards8507.

If anyone wants my Gears of War Ultimate Edition, I'm selling it for $20, which is a little less than what it's going for on eBay. It's a download code so I'll be able to get it to you immediately over e-mail without any shipping or anything.

So I'm caving and joining the new generation so I can get Star Wars. Question is...PS4 or XB1?

I went around in circles with the same question last week. Are any of the console exclusives a must-have (MLB The Show, Halo, etc.)? Do you have any friends you definitely want to play with online who have a certain console? Xbox has much better deals out right now. Best Buy is offering a $50 gift card plus free game this Friday through Sunday. The PS4 bundles are all much more expensive.

Interesting on the pricing,... When they first came out ps4 was much cheaper, prob a huge reason most of us have ps4s

The Xbox bundles at launch made Kinect mandatory. Microsoft wisely realized that Kinect is stupid and they no longer require it.

I also would like to upgrade from my Ps3 for Star Wars and other stuff. I'm pretty loyal to Playstation but those deals sound pretty great. I think I will still get a PS4 because I'm not as much of an online gamer.

From what I understand, Star Wars isn't going to be much of a game without online multiplayer.

Hmm well I'll still buy it. Does this look like a good deal?

Sony PlayStation 4 500GB Star Wars Battlefront Bundle Black 3001356 - Best Buy
That's probably the best I've seen for PlayStation if you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for a preorder. 500GB might be a little light depending on how many games you end up getting, since they all need to be downloaded/installed. That's one of the reasons I went with Xbox. I bought 500GB but upgrading Xbox's storage is plug-and-play with just about any external hard drive. Playstation is a bit more involved in that regard.

The BestBuy XB1 deal is roughly the same (500GB bundle plus free new game) but they throw in a $50 gift card too. You could use that to get Xbox Live for a year if you go that route.
