We are getting ahead of ourselves.... BUT.. If we can run the table and Stanford does... This could put two top 10-12 teams battling it out at end of year.. If ND can dominant Stanford like NW did but with more points.. It's our big hello moment for the playoff
Not to mention us winning would be a non-conference loss for Stanford and wouldn't jeopardize their shot at the Pac 12 title.

If ND and Stanford both win out before the last game I'm confident we will both be no lower than 7th in the polls.

What can a coach do to come out faster? In basketball, our coach would have us go 5 on 5 for a few minutes to get started quickly. Can't do that in football, so what?

First, ALWAYS defer to the second half if given the option. There are some rare exceptions but I think it's almost always the right decision.

Second, as Wiz said, the OLine needs to come out with the mentality that they need to run people over on the first play.

Third, BK tends to use the "if you play like a Notre Dame football player you will beat this team" or some variety of that in the pregame speech a lot. I'd like to see him change that approach. More fire, get the team pumped more. Idk, something different.

You could change the pre-game warm up routine to mimic a game situation. The issue is that you have to go back to the locker room afterwards and players will likely cool off and lose any sweat they may have broken. Have the players, especially those who start slow, continue to warm up in the locker room. Have trainers stretch them, have them jump rope, put them on the bike, whatever it takes to keep them warm.

I prefer scripting the first 15-25 plays too. The entire offense knows what is going to happen from the start. It's a lot easier to go full speed when you know that we are absolutely running x play, then y play, then z play.

I would defer the toss if I won. If it's reasonable to assume your team will "start slow" then kick them the ball and try to play kick them the ball and try to play the field position game while you let your players settle into the game.

I'd like to see a few more speeches along the lines of the MSU halftime speech in 2012.

Yup. It encourages complacency. It's a "don't screw it up" attitude rather than a "go out and get it" attitude.

And BVG's 'Hit, Run, and have some fun' is kind of funny.

It's more like 'think, think really hard, double check yourself and everyone else, then don't screw up your lane'.

1. Don't call dumbass lateral running plays on third and two.

2. Get a fullback.

3. Get a fullback attitude.

4. Instill a violent culture among your offensive line. Pinkett was right. We need a couple of bad citizens.
Or open with 3 straight passing plays for a 3 and out.

Wow, these guys have certainly improved since the NW game. Should be a great one this year.

They're good. I just don't buy Hogan. I don't watch every Stanford game but when I watch him play he either throws to the primary receiver or takes off running. That works well if you can pound the ball and use play action. Doesn't work so well if you can get them in second or third and long. Stop their run game (easier said than done) and Hogan will give us the game.

Sidenote: McCaffrey is a ball player. Wish he was strapping up for ND on Saturdays.

Agreed. IF it ends up 10-1 Stanford vs. 10-1 ND then they'll both be in playoff position for sure. I would guess Stanford jumps us this week and will be ahead of us the whole year until we play.

At least 3 teams ahead of us are guaranteed to lose tomorrow. Hopefully a few more follow suit and we are both rounding out the top 10 Sunday morning.

*Beating SC is all that matters though right now

My biggest takeaway from watching the game last night is that ND's linebackers do not match up well at all against Stanford's power run game.

Maybe yes.

Or maybe Utah and Northwestern are just that good with Michgan splitting the distance.

I think NW matched up well against Stanford.

And Michigan stole the wind from their sails like Clemson did us.

We recovered whereas NW didn't.

That is my opinion.

There's a chance Stanford has improved greatly in this area but we smashed their power run game to bits last year.

I'd say a very good chance. Fairly evident that this team is much more physical on the OL this year than last and McCaffrey can be a game wrecker behind them. In their last 4 Pac-12 games they're avg. 286yds/game on the ground.

Clemson had 8 in the box all game because of monsoon conditions. Doubt stanford for would of had a successful night running.

What?

That second sentence....?

And yes he would HAVE had a good game, even in monsoon conditions, considering that wet conditions are typically a boon to a running game, as the OL knows where the play is going, while the DL does not.

And I am not saying he would have had 100 yards, but not getting 80 is ridiculous.

Outscoring opponents 57-27 in the first quarter, is not getting them ready to play in the first snap?

When you see us struggle with UMASS and Navy for four quarters (1st half in both games), yes.

And Clemson beat the snot out of us for 3 quarters. That is just a number that means literally nothing, when we honestly should not have allowed any points to either Navy or UMASS in the first quarter.

The entire season has felt like ND was sleepwalking, except for the TX game.

That is on the coach.

It will definitely be a game where we'll miss having Jarron.

I think everyone is overreacting a little bit on Stanford. Yes, they looked good last night. But remember, that was a UCLA team that was overrated to begin with and then lost their two best players on defense. I still think Stanford's style of play fits nicely into what ND does scheme wise. Should be a good game at the end of the year, but let's not anoint the Cardinal as the next great team. They are far from that.

The thing is UCLA's d personnel wise is pretty similar to ND's. And one could argue their linebackers across the board are better and more physical than ND's.

They sure as hell didn't show it, and haven't shown it the last 2 games. Without Jack, that unit is severely limited. It's the equivalent of us losing Jaylon (heaven forbid...). Here's hoping Joe has gotten healthier miraculously over the week.

That RB is going to mess up our defense. Our best hope is to win a shootout.
