My bad. Thanks for the correction. Still not sure why he was the only "recruiter" with McKinley.

Because having 10 commits down your throat for the entire day would be annoying as hell

Here's my horrible news Lucky.

I'm throwing the CB to U Dub. Got it from a PAC-12 coach... and all I'll say is he's not a GA at Colorado. It's no secret that I love me some JMc like Koon loved him some GB but unless CBK and Sanford pull a miracle out of the hat, I'm letting go. (grown man sobs as he exits the stage to fading lights)

Yeah, the writings been in the wall for awhile. He's seen enough of ND and had every reason to pull the trigger but didn't, and then he started seeing other schools and liked them seemingly even more. I think he's one of those players that likes the idea of ND more than actually going to the school.

And now that you've conceded, I gotta say, one time you called him the unquestioned best player in CA by everyone you talked to. I didn't say anything at the time but I've never heard that from anyone I talked to in CA. VERY good player who I wanted in this class but not the best in the state...not even top 5 really. (EDIT: just looked and he's not even top 10 in 24/7 composite. Not that that's the best indicator, but I'm just saying that he's not easily the top player in the state.)

Not sure how to take this bolded part. Normally our commits know who the staff wants and show them love and the importance of their commitment to ND. Yet, the only one actively recruiting him to come to ND was our PWO. Hmmm....

I am ambivalent to most "recruit targets." Others have state lot of the reasons, especially and including all the varieties of what someone says (a recruit) means something specific to them, but something different to us, so far removed from the process. Like the old chestnut, education is important.

What I took as the whole crux of the report on Javon's visit, was the staff has changed its recruiting tact with this kid. They are off the pressure in any degree, and just feeding him substance.

Has anyone else noticed that recruiting seems to be more coordinated between UND resources, and structured to appeal to individual recruits?

I thought it was pretty telling that those most inside the program gave him weather advice, etc., and got acquainted with him and the one person that was after him was a fellow recruit that looked to keep the pressure on for his own personal reasons. It came off to me as substance, with a little flattery around the edges.

Maybe I am reading too much into things, but I see ND recruiting as becoming a more sophisticated tool, in a more elegant package. And I think that bodes well for brining the most championship talent in moving forward.

I'm aware what the rankings are. I've seen 12 of the 17 players ranked higher than him on 247 including all 5 of the WR's. His production against what is most likely the #1 schedule in the nation last year and this year make him, without question, the best high school football player in California. The people who tell me this are:

1) a Trinity League official
2) a Moore League official
3) a Santa Margarita Catholic booster
4) the father of an SC walk on
5) an assistant at Mission Viejo HS

also and most importantly
6) a PAC-12 coordinator

It's unanimous with that group. Are there people who like Costello most? Jackie Jones most? Yes, but it's not from guys who know what these guys do. It's all based on production. Now, who's gonna be the best in college or the NFL? Who knows? Betiku is #1 and Juarez is #2. I'll take the field minus JMc over both of them becoming the best so what does the rating mean... I'm not sure?

I'm not trying to disprove your opposition, I'm just passing along a pretty reputable collection of opinions of guys I happy hour with and talk high school football with. Guys that have been spot on with recruiting info, guys that see all the games and work the 7v7 circuits in the summer.

My opinion alone is that until I see another high school player put up 1000 receiving yds and 11 TD's against Serra, Mater Dei, Bishop Amat, St John Bosco and De La Salle in the playoffs (with a 5-10, dual threat QB w/ no offers)... or the statistical equivalent rushing, passing or defensively, Javon McKinley is the best high school player in California.

God bless Wiltfong and his somewhat erratic reporting recently but apparently he's hearing that Javon almost committed on his visit. TIFWIW.

Per Wiltfong, committing during his OV crossed his mind and Steve put his crystal ball back to ND

If only recruiting was a game of horseshoes or hand grenades...

I'm starting to lose faith in the Wiltfong crystal ball. It's a shame, he was the lone shining beacon in recruiting ever since we lost *whats his name from 247...

* J Sapp - just remembered

Has anyone seen quotes with him after Thursday visit at UCLA?

Just looked and couldn't find anything on him. Basically if he wants to leave home it's ND, if he wants to stay in Cali it's UCLA. That's all my opinion but that's how I think his recruitment unfolds. I know they lead for Theo Howard and some random Texas WR

this is really dissappointing as he is one of my favorite receivers in this class.

its obvious his mom is ruling his recruitment right now. She seems like hard work

Pretty sure his mom is in favor of her son ending up at ND. She's visited three times I believe.

think you might be confused with someone else. She wants him close to home because she wants to go to all his games. she is a single mom with Javon her only child right? i don't think she will let him leave CA.

#1 to Javon, batting #4 or worse to his Momma. No ND for this guy.

Anyone have an actual confirmed opinion of ND from his mom? Any quotes or anything?
