Good comparison in terms of body and size IMO. I don't think he has the upside or was as good as Solomon. When I watched Solomon Thomas I saw a guy who was physically dominate and made plays. Don't really see that with Carlo. He reminds me of a poor man Ethan Johnson

Jock strap and all?

I'd take that. I thought EJ was a solid player, and a poor man's version of him doesn't sound any worse than a lot of the question marks we currently have on the line.

Scout: Clock ticking on Kemp’s decision

Boulder (Colo.) Fairview four-star defensive end Carlo Kemp said he could come off the board in short order.

Defensive end Carlo Kemp has gathered the necessary information he needs to make a decision. Now it’s simply about pulling the trigger.

“At this point it feels like the schools have done their part,” Kemp said. “Based on me and my timeline, I will figure out if I’m ready to commit and how my family feels about it. I would like to get it done and finally relax.”

The four-star Boulder (Colo.) Fairview product took an official visit to Colorado last weekend, but his decision will come down to Michigan and Notre Dame.

“It’s now about where I fit in best not only as a football player but as a student and a person,” Kemp said. “Both schools have so much tradition and history and so much to offer, it’s a very tough decision.”

The 6-foot-2 ½, 258-pound defensive end took his official visit to Michigan for the BYU game on Sept. 26. He visited Notre Dame for the Irish’s win vs. Navy on Oct. 10.

“It’s pretty possible a decision could happen any day now,” Kemp said. “If I did end up taking another official visit (to UCLA), it would have to be this month. I know I will decide by November.

So what's the word on Kemp? Take no matter what? I know we have fading chances with Betiku and Gary, we have a real chance with Hayes and we just picked up Kareem. I'm assuming Betiku, Gary and Hayes are takes all the time, no matter what so is Kemp a take within the month, then the ship sails?

Personally, I'd rather have too much depth at DL and have to rely on a freshman WR or two, than vice versa.

I'm fully on board with this but I don't want to have to rely on a frosh or walk-on MLB/OLB again. I want to make sure the the big nasties are stocked and the defense has plenty of options.

We're going to miss the eraser named Jaylon so I just want to be sure we don't shut out a top level LB or secondary talent because we took 15 DL.

This recruitment is starting to feel a bit like the Chacho Ulloa recruitment to me. I'm kind've rooting for him to choose Michigan. I'd much rather have Kemp than some of the other D-linemen that we've taken over the last couple years (e.g. Tiassum, Mokwuah, Jamir and Ade), but I don't want him taking the spot of an impact guy at a different position.

Dafuq? REALLY?

Eight spots left, I'd prefer all of these guys over Kemp

1. RB/APB: McIntosh, Stovall, Alloway
2. WR: Robertson, McKinley
3. DE/LB: Hayes
4. LB: McCulloch
5. LB: Hansford
6. CB: Hamlin, Pride
7. S: Studstill, Okeke
8. Long Shots: Betiku, McCloud, Long, Fuller, Homer, etc.

I wish we would have held off on Jamir Jones and pressed for Kemp, but at this point I don't think it's crazy to think he's no longer a take at this point in time.

"I don't think by this Sunday," said Kemp of when he'll make a decision. "I'm really looking to make it next week for sure. We are going into the playoffs and I'd like to possibly have that off my chest for playoffs. So, hopefully by then."

"They all offer different things for me," said Kemp, a class of 2016 recruit. "Notre Dame is the name and fame and all the tradition that comes along with it. Michigan is up and coming. With head coach Jim Harbaugh and everything that he brings to a program. Colorado is my home. It's where I have grown up."

So...Notre Dame it is.

What do we do when Kemp and Hayes jump on board, then Betiku/Gary want to join? Of course we accept them but do we start using DLs as Safeties?

Or maybe. Just maybe. We have a D line rotation. Nah. That's crazy. Forget I said anything.

mike frank on isd stated he didn't know but wasn't sure if kemp is 100% a take because he feels that him and khareem are basically the same player...but then he also said we prob would...according to loy---its a crap shoot on who he selects between us and michigan

I would agree with that, although it depends on if the staff thinks he'll grow into a 3-tech and how they feel we're doing at 3-tech. They are definitely similar players, except Khareem is 100% a SDE, while Kemp MIGHT be a swing.

Just sucks because Kemp is definitely a quality DL.

Haven't seen any senior year film on him only junior year. However, Kemp is destructive from anywhere. Maybe he has gotten a lot bigger since then but Kareem is pure DL, where I felt like Kemp could play LB as well. (again basing off junior year film)

They both are so destructive that I would rather have them both and just figure out how they fit later.

Our pass rush is too bland on the outside to turn guys like Kemp away.

Just my opinion.

Yes. We seen how well our DL plays safety. Just take a look at Sheldon at the end of the Virginia game

So we don't want 2 Khareem's?

We were clammering at the bit to get one.

If Michigan is confident and Notre Dame is "meh", then chances are he selects Michigan. I don't think he's a great prospect, but I'm always for depth on the DL and would rather have him than a lot of other players on the board.

I doubt Frank views them as the same level of talent but I took that as more of the same position. Some people think that Kareem will also grow into a 3T. That was my impression of "same player".

I would rather have him than 50% of the DL on scholarship now.
