When Jay Hayes transfers or rides the bench the rest of his career I'll be back.

And you think that'd be a result of him getting in trouble for the tweet, rather than whatever lead up to the tweet?

I think this entire debate is moot, because the media knew exactly what Hayes did, and knew that BK was punishing him for it.

If BK doesn't answer the question about the obvious tweets that everyone saw, he'd look like a chump.

Now, when it is strictly rumors, and nothing is out in the open? Keep it that way. But in this instance, Jay put it out there, so everyone already knew. Why should BK dance around the issue?

This comment right here should put an end to any debate.

I find it kind of funny that you penalize a kid who bitched about not playing by suspending him from playing. Some harsh shit right there!

He's not suspended from playing. He can play today if needed. He was suspended from staying with the team in the hotel last night.

Ok, my mistake. I read that he got a 2 game rip. Carry on.

I don't get why any bench guy would bitch before UMASS. This is the week he may have played!

lol yup, IF he was going to play, this would be one of the few games of the year where snaps would have been all but guaranteed.

So when Holtz sent Brooks and Watters back to South Bend from southern california before the game after they showed up late for a team meeting and Holtz simply said to the media, "They violated team rules," he was a chump?

Holtz didn't dance around the issue. He succinctly established that he wasn't dancing to the media's minutiae.

So when the media says, "has Hayes been punished for his tweets that we all saw?" And BK says, "it was a violation of team rules," what's the difference? Either way, Hayes is getting punished, and everyone knows it was for whining about coaches on Twitter. No need to be generic about it.

"He violated team rules and it was handled internally."

End of matter.

Even a ESPN blogger would move on. Instead it became front page news and was carried by all the football media.

And fans like you keep it alive.

A story about a benched player whinning ... .

It was front page news the moment Hayes hit "send". That's on him, not Kelly.

FYI - I don't think this ever made first page of anything (because it's not a big deal and no one outside of ND fans care).

I checked ESPN immediately when it was reported as front page. It wasn't on the home page.

I went to ESPN's CFB page. It wasn't there.

I searched 'Notre Dame' within ESPN's site. It was the third article from the top. Never was anything to see here, still isn't.

To be fair, I was getting alerts on my phone shortly after the tweets were posted (before BK's presser btw) - but it wasn't ESPN, it was Bleacher Report.

Did I say it was?

Please quote me where I did.

By saying this:

"He violated team rules and it was handled internally."

End of matter.

Even a ESPN blogger would move on. Instead it became front page news and was carried by all the football media.

...are you not implying that it only became front page news because of the way BK handled it? If not, that sure is the way it came across.

But as Quote Investigator points out, there's absolutely no evidence that Albert Einstein ever said this. In fact, the origin of this quote can be traced to a movie. It appears the quote is an altered version of a manufactured Einstein quote from the 1995 film Powder.

tee-hee, tee-hee

Sorry for the delay in some of the standard back and forth banter, repartee , my friend – I've been bouncing about among Mac (whatever animal or natural rock formation), some version of Microsoft OS is reasonably current and some (skinny) mobile OS.

Reps in this OS alternative are beyond my ken and care.

Might this suffice: you rock and I try to roll?

It definitely made the front page of ESPN.com.

He didn't have to dance around the issue since the offense was known by all. But he didn't have to put the punishment out there. That is my point. A simple statement that he would be addressed internally would have been the best way to go. It just opens too many doors when something more serious occurs. That's my whole argument here. If you speak of punishment for one are you going to speak of the punishment for all? I don't think so in more serious cases.

"Hayes violated team rules and will be addressed internally by the coaching staff." - BK

"So his tweets were a violation of team rules?" - media

"I am not here to discuss what I mean by violation of team rules. You, the media, can deduct what you want from that. I am also not here to discuss what the coaching staff feels is appropriate punishment. It will be handled internally by the coaching staff. Next question." - BK

"So, he is being punished for his tweets?" - media

"What part of my answer did you not understand? Next question." - BK

Pretty easy to me. And it gives BK the ability to answer the same way the next time if the incident involving a player is more serious.
