Not in my eyes. Young kid gets upset and sends a stupid tweet. Coaches punish him and make him take it down. Drama queen fans run with it and create more drama than is probably there. That's who is stirring the pot.

He stirred the pot himself. This is on him, not the fans. Hayes knew the rules about tweeting...the staff has explained it to the team PLENTY of times. He's always been one to use twitter to clown and troll people. This time it bit him in the ass as he was serious in what he wrote. Of course fans are going to react...that's what they do and that's the reason he's clowned them so many times before.

I personally think it's stupid for fans to react to what kids say on twitter (I love it when players tweet rap lyrics and ignorant fans misinterpret them lol), but in this case, they were actually right. And Hayes has enjoyed the attention he gets from social media and hasn't complained...he has no right to complain this time and neither does anyone else. If you don't like the consequences, don't tweet. IMHO.

I agree with this and I know his tweets were stupid. My point is too many people jumped to the conclusion that his tweet meant he's leaving Notre Dame or wants to leave Notre Dame. Also, didn't like the comments that are saying/implying good riddance. We need good players. Let the kid grow up from his mistakes, let's not wish him bon voyage. We all an complain about airing dirty laundry and negative tweets. Don't wish or hope he would leave.

I honestly don't care what he tweets. But when he threw out "win a Natty and out" type bs...that pissed me off.

No, leave...they'll win a Natty.

this I agree with!!! And I was pissed at his tweet as well. Especially calling out a coach. Hopefully his temporary exile from the team will open his eyes.

Like I said, I'd like to see him succeed at ND as much as anyone. Our team realistically might be the best in the country, at least top 4.

that shit, we don't need.

pretty sure I've posted this before.

Yeah, telling him to bounce is a bit much for my tastes too. But I guess I'm a hypocrite...I say it to myself or to friends, but I'll never put it online. I personally just don't see the need to emoti-post when talking about players on the current team. But to each his own. I definitely want him to stay - IF he's got the right mindset.

It isn't necessarily about him wanting to leave...everyone knows we've had plenty transfers. More about the timing..we're rolling good, everyone is staying the course, buying in, something good might happen ... then this. Take it somewhere else bc this team don't need it.

Just a thought....
Are sure the second tweet was about Jay? Could he have been saying that about the coaches as in they are out once they win a natty?

He wants to graduate, win a natty and get out. Good for him. Accomplish two HUGE goals and on to the next. All in the interpretation of his tweet.

He is no where near graduating. This is only his second year.

He didn't say he was leaving THIS YEAR.

Those looking for drama will always find it.

I can't wait to graduate from Notre Dame. I just want to win a National Championship and leave. Straight up.

— Jay Hayes (@JayHayesNY) March 1, 2015

This was his first text. He followed that up with the "Gotta win this Natty and I'm out".

Never mentioned leaving this year. Could he be frustrated and talking about leaving this year? Sure, but lets all quit acting like we KNOW what the intent is behind a 20 year-old's tweets.

I had no idea about this first text - from March 1st!

Based on the texts that were quoted in this thread, JH definitely made it seem like he wanted to leave after winning the championship this year.

In this instance, the only person looking for drama was JH.

I like the response. He should have knocked.

Hope he can rethink, and regroup... He could be a big part of the next two years if he gets his head on straight.

If not, in the words of another poster,

"Bye Felicia"

Will be very surprised if he sticks. I hope his parents have talked some sense into him since then. Usually when these guys feel slighted, it just builds until they wind up jetting out. I hope not. This would have been a really good week for him to get some PT for future. Kinda wished BK would have found some other kind of punishment other than sitting him this week.

This has a chance to go very good or very bad. Being taken to task like this will either result in Jay taking responsibility and humbly admitting that he screwed up and working his butt off.

Of course it's equally likely that if he is self absorbed, that he will see himself as even more of a victim now and his attitude will get even worse.

I think it's funny oh BK, last year, justified pulling his RS because Hayes was too good to be here 5 years anyways. But now he's RS-ing a year later in the system. Rip that shit off, this guy can play. I want fresh DL in September as well as November.

I'd take it that BK and the coaches have made the right decision in how they chose to punish JH. Kid's been in the program for a year and half now Im guessing they know how to push his buttons

Considering this is a front page headline on ESPN I think whatever BK intended backfired.

Sometimes you recall things differently than I do. The only reason Hayes played last year was because of injuries. BK did make that statement about being here 5 years in a presser but did you really think that's why he started getting PT 3/4 of the way through the year? That was coach speak to give his player some confidence. FWIW, this is precisely what I wanted at the beginning of fall camp. I just hoped that Blankenship, Hayes, and whoever else, that played last year out of necessity, would be good with it.

Why did it backfire? What was Kelly's intention? Sure seems like a sharp metal object used for felling trees is being put to the stone, no?

I have no idea what that means.

Idk I'm guessing BK intended for Jay to "wake up" and be more mature. But if I was the subject of a national headline I would feel pretty ticked off at my coach because while what I did was wrong, I didn't deserve to have a permanent stain on my record.

Now this will come up as a red flag in NFL interviews, hell even job interviews. Don't think he deserved that because of some immaturity.

Well, isn't that what he kind of did towards our coaching staff?

It was a not-so-subtle reference that you have an axe to grind.

Kelly did nothing wrong and it was handled correctly. Jay Hayes has been a repeat offender when it comes to putting dumb shit on social media. If Hayes learns from this mistake, then Kelly will go to bat for him like he does for all of his players when they enter the draft/have job interviews and there'll be no lingering effects.

Why not be angry at reporters or ESPN for digging up a weak story and making it a headline? I'm guessing because we should revisit Brian Kelly again?

This isn't BK's fault. Jay makes a 'poor-me' tweet, BK punishes him behind closed doors. Media asks BK about it, he tells the truth.

Like the parking ticket, I just don't see this as a big deal. If we're 1-2, maybe, but this isn't going to be a red flag for recruiting or anything like that.

ESPN is a drama mama industry, so they're going to make the headlines when they can. But IDK how you can read the article and say it looks bad for ND or BK. After the shit we've been through, this is peanuts.

If the kid is good enough, the NFL will give ZERO shit about this. NFL teams draft kids who abuse women, steal, use drugs, and ect ect.

Its simply not true that these things are no longer affecting draft positions. Now if you're a top 5 pick and some of this happens can you still be a 1st rounder, sure. But there are numerous examples of this recently. Two of last years best pass rushers fell much further than they should have because of off the field issues. Now, is this one of them? Probably not but your statement isn't very accurate either.

Let's say you're a blogger at ESPN. Your job is to cover Notre Dame football. The head coach of Notre Dame football benches a player for comments made on social media. Are you suggesting that the appropriate course of action is to not type that up and submit it to your editor?

But the arrest issues compared to a disgruntled tweet are two very different things. If an arrest only drops you a few rounds, what does an immature tweet from a 19 year do? IMO not very much.

I just don't see it. BK did what he had to do and in an appropriate manner, so did ESPN. There's nothing to see here IMO.

I understand that but thats not what you posted. You posted that those issues (highlighted in your post) don't affect draft status, which I was just pointing out isn't true.

But as Quote Investigator points out, there's absolutely no evidence that Albert Einstein ever said this. In fact, the origin of this quote can be traced to a movie. It appears the quote is an altered version of a manufactured Einstein quote from the 1995 film Powder.

tee-hee, tee-hee

"I absolutely LUV my Apple Watch 3s...LULWUT"

"60% of internet quotes attributed to me are correct all of the time"
