That's part of our opening script.

1. Elect to receive kickoff for God knows what reason.
2. Return opening kick to the 17 yard line.
3. Call timeout.
4. Delay of game.
5. Pass complete to Amir Carlisle for two yards.
6. Jet sweep to C.J. Prosise for no gain.
7. False start.
8. Draw to Cam McDaniel for five yards.
9. Punt.

But yeah, hopefully that's behind us. Third and long? Not long enough.

In regards to cam and kick returns. I am very curious if his running to the returner like 90% of the time stopping him instead of blocking, was just his overly cautious side or coached.

O/U 3rd drive of the season where we call a timeout to avoid a delay of game

Against LSU I am pretty sure Zaire called a TO on first play of the game to avoid delay of game... I am going the under

Over. I don't think Zaire possesses the bad qualities that Golson had. Golson seemed like an inward type guy, second guessed himself to much, and over thought things. I've never seen any of that from Zaire.

I agree. It seemed he wanted so badly to please BK by making the right decision, that he tortured himself by never making any decisions.

I think if I was given the opportunity to ask Kelly one question. it would be one of two

1. Why in the ***k do you elect to receive when we go 3 and out 90% of the time and actually lose yardage!?!

or

2. Coach, what exactly has happened in your life that you have an absolute hatred towards differing to the 2nd half?!?!?!

Not sure why people think Zaire is going to have an effect on plays being called in a timely matter, or why Golson was at fault.

This has been an issue since day 1, no matter the qb.

Even back to Jimmy Clausen and Charlie Weis there were issues with play clock. Clausen would be motioning to hurry and get the signals in, and it was like they were being signaled in Latin and then translated, it took WAY too much time. Lots of TO's burned back then too

At certain times, I hope MZ just stops looking over and just runs his show. Hurry up, less than 30 secs, inside the 30. Just do your thing home slice!

I will be shocked if we escape the first quarter without calling a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty. This has been a problem through numerous QBs and two head coaches, to be honest.

you know Texas are gonna load the box early on so a good few audibles are going to be needed im sure. You know a timeout to prevent delay of game is gonna happen :D

I would think we hope they do load the box...a little playaction off the read option and let brown or fuller take the top off the defense for 6.

I'm torn between two scenarios in my football fantasy:

1. They load the box and Kelly goes two or three TE sets with heavy formation and we run anyway, completely dictating what will happen.

2. Loads of play action where we air it out all day long and the receiving corps racks up big numbers.

Both would be sweet for a number of reasons, not sure which would better serve us moving forward. Probably the latter.

Until someone proves otherwise, Fuller is the #1 weapon on the offense and is equally effective in the screen game as he is at the deep ball. Loading the box would be a very, very risky proposition.

And the least proven player is the one delivering him the ball. I will take the complete opposite of this. I'm going to make Zaire beat me over the top before I give him that credit. Even if I give up a big play or too, I'd either make us grind out the game on the ground or over the top.

I agree. My thought is they load the box, we come out very first drive in multiple TE sets and run a read option play action deep ball and let one of the speedsters take the top off their D. If effective, completely softens them up and backs them out of the loaded box opening up the running game...hopefully out of the pistol since we're not going to be coming out in a power I.

Fair point. I guess I just dont see anybody they have being able to match up with Fuller without having to roll heavy to his side but maybe I'm mistaken.

I hope Kelly runs the option from shotgun, then uses that same formation for PA pass. It is so deceiving and recognizable for a defense after being gashed a couple times, they almost can't help but crash down and expose the backend.

I don't have as many questions for Kelly as I do for posters in this thread :

  • Does anyone even think that a competent coach would start off a game loading the box against this ND offense? To what end, or to prove what point?
  • Why wouldn't Kelly want this team, with this offense to have the ball first? If the last question elicits head scratching, or nut scratching for that matter; why? Why wouldn't you want to put an offense with this kind of offensive line, and this talent at the skills to touch the ball early and often?
  • Why does everyone believe that things have to start off in some dramatic bad fashion?
  • What is the benefit there?

Just for a clarification, if the box were loaded, wouldn't a deep, a play action, a quick tight end route, or even an inside read option work well to counter that defensive adjustment? Wouldn't any inside or outside zone read work well, especially if you call it to the weak side of their defensive formation?

I do think the box will be loaded. They are going to force Malik to prove he can beat them wit his arm. Our current strengths are OL, and known quality runners in folston and zaire.
