he's been "offered offered" so you know it's real! What's this kid's story? 3-4 star kid with an early offer from us in the '15 cycle? Justin Brent "under the radar" potential?

Justin Brent only had an Indiana offer when we offered him. This kid has Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Louisville and Ohio State offers, and is ranked #188 nationally by Rivals already. He is not under the radar. Not even close to the same situation IMO.

Yeah this kid has a pretty impressive offer list to be a 3 star on 247. Maybe they're missing something?

It happens every year. Last year this time we were trying to figure out why the staff would offer Joe Mixon ... now a top 100 player. Before that it was Ezekiel Elliot. The rankings just aren't that accurate until the class is in the summer before its senior year.

His offer list doesn't read under the radar.

my bad...I really meant to drive home the point of underrated...just seems odd that a kid from florida with that offer list would have those rankings...I get it for Brent in that he played in Indiana and there is very little exposure/not the best football state

Don't know if he has the highest ceiling (doesn't look like he has elite speed) but definitely a natural running back (much in the way GAIII is not). Solid prospect.

People wondered why we would offer Mixon? Huh? He was the top RB in California from the get go, no? He was as far as I was concerned at least.

Per the ISD article, he says he is 6'1, 190 right now, and has been clocked at 4.34 in the 40 and runs a 10.8 100 meters. He has plenty of speed.

He plans on visiting ND in the spring, and basically we said we are in the early top 5 with Florida, Ohio State, Clemson and Auburn. Relationships and depth chart are going to be big factors.

No, check his thread. His ratings were unimpressive around this time last year. I recall discussing whether we should offer with Whiskey and some others. It goes to show that you can't put too much stock in junior year rankings.

By the time he comes we will have Carisle (1 year left), Folston (2 years left), and Bryant (3 years left) correct?

Think Mahone would have 1 year left as well, but yeah that sounds right.

Is that pending 6th year approval? I'm just asking because I really thought he was the same class technically as Cam and GAIII.

He is in the same class as Cam and GAIII, but unlike Cam and GAIII he redshirted last year (due to that ankle injury), so he has a 5th year available. 2015 will not be his sixth year, nor would it be Cam or GAIII's, but his 5th.

Eh...his rise had already begun at about this time last year. And I don't think anyone ever questioned his talent. The only questions were about having room due to Elijah Hood...and some people were hoping for Sony Michel too apparently. (Which looking at how the Hood thing has turned out :( I would love to have Joe now.) Things definitely changed drastically for the kid, but I was certainly always under the impression that he was the best back in California. His highlights were great. I suppose as far as rankings go, if you simply mean he wasn't a top 5 back at this time last year, then you're correct, but a large part of that was due to 2014 being a stacked runningback class.

Anyways, enough about Mixon.

I see what you're saying about rankings. This guys rankings have a good shot of jumping up, and I agree.

Well that should fit just right.

That 4.34 is probably hand timed. The kid looks plenty fast, but I dont really care about hand-timed 40s anymore, because everyone runs a 4.3-4.4 in a hand timed 40...

A 10.8 100m is pretty darn fast.
