Did we ever confirm that Ronnie Stanley denied being a captain? I just remembered that anecdote and realize now we have hints at ND smoke. Just wondering if I should be worried, please tell me no. Please say that is a stupid thing to even insinuate and I'll just move on.

Silly guy, offensive linemen never get into trouble.

I was watching espn the other day and someone whose name I can not recall at the moment said Wimbush reminds him of T. Boyd from Clemson. I know Wimbush hasn't played a down yet but does anyone else see the comparisons?

I think I mentioned that in his thread, very similar IMO. And if the comparison proves to be true we're in good shape.

Huh?
On Stanley not being a captain, it seems unlikely you'd have two offensive linemen as captains and Nick Martin was a no-brainer. No reason to think it's more than that, is there?

ND fan base paranoia. Ain't it grand? My mind went there too, but I pushed it away, until this...

i haven't seen anything saying he was denied or any issues...all paid site reporters have just indicated that Martin is DEF the leader of the offensive line despite stanley being a top draft prospect...

Holy crap.... this is what I come back to?

We're fine. It's like we're battered wives and we don't know what
to do when things are going well.

This has been a pretty nice off-season. Take it easy.

No. Kelly had ten guys who were eligible for captaincy and seven of them he really wanted. Stanley didn't get it because six captains would be stupid (and even five seems excessive).

Not only do I agree with you, but I am going to rep you Pan! You always refuse to insert ugly drama in your posts! One of my favorite things about you, and your posts!

Actually, there was a blurb or a release somewhere that started this rumor. The only reason I remember it is because it was so awkwardly worded. I think if someone would dig in and research it they would find that Ronnie took himself out of contention for captaincy, with no disrespect to the honor, because he was aware of the problem the staff was having with too many choices.

The way it was stated to me, by someone else, is that the original plan was for even more captains, but that was nixed somewhere above Kelly. When this was made clear, more than one team leader withdrew their name for the sake of team unity. Including Ronnie Stanley.

I bet I have the straight scoop on this one.

No wonder why some people think the ND faithful is full of ass-clowns, some people always try to find the worst in good news.

Our captains were set up to be NMart, Day, Schmidt long ago. Farley was the inside favorite for lots of reasons, plus he could be labeled "captain for the special teams" if anyone wanted to rationalize it. THAT's where most of us thought that it would go, if you revisit the thread. The only surprise was making Jaylon a captain, despite that job not meeting his personality. My guess is that Coach just wanted to honor him for a fantastic career, since he'll likely not be back [sadly] next year.

As to Ronnie, Nick has made it almost violently clear that the "ordering" of the OLine is HIS job, and everyone else is to shut up and just blast people. Ronnie seems to do his big brother thing for Quenton and Bars, but leading the OLine is Nick's job. Frankly not having to act like a formal captain is just one less responsibility to be relieved of so you can just play ball [which is why Kelly hasn't considered making Jaylon captain any earlier. ... and one more subtle way that Joe helps us.]

I DO wish that folks would stop creating negative interpretations out of the flimsiest of assumptions, though. Seems almost like a board disease.

Did you mean "declined" becoming a captain?

What type of disease? Is it going through the locker room as we speak? How many will have "flu-like symptoms" this weekend? With the Longhorns coming to town, is it a variation of Mad Cow disease?

No, it is just simple stupidity. Assumption is it is contagious because it is so prevalent.
