Live? That's tough. If you have HBO/Netflix/Hulu+/ect. there are places, specifically I know of on reddit, where you can trade with another user to defray costs. They give you the account name and password to their HBO in return for your account name and password to a different service.

Other than that there are live streams you can find of premium channels but they are often pretty terrible quality or they are cropped to avoid detection software so you are missing 15% of the screen.

If you don't mind waiting a day or two to watch it you will almost certainly be able to torrent each episode. Depending on the popularity of the show, say GoT, you can download it within an hour or two of it airing. These are perfect 1080p HD files.

No. That is why people do what i mentioned above, sharing account info with one or two other people. The companies monitor how many IP addresses are accessing their services. If it's clear that half of IE is sharing one account all over the country they will cut you off.

Thanks - live is not that important to my friend...

As long as they are trying to throw raw meat to the ND haters...i.e. Kelly getting red-faced in some players grill. I think this would be awesome. Pity it would only be on Showtime.

I have a hard time seeing any positives to come out of this. Practices will be wasted because cameras are there to "document" them, players and coaches will be even more burned out, and in the name of "good tv," producers will fuck with both coaches and players hoping to set up a dramatic scenario.

Is Hard Knocks like that? This won't be Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

I need more of an explanation on how the practices will be wasted because there are cameras there.

I also don't think Showtime will show anything that will paint ND in a negative light. They tried to do this show with Miami last season and Miami wanted final say on what aired and what didn't. I'm assuming Swarbrick is smart enough not to put ND in a precarious position with this.

I also think it has huge recruiting benefits.

IMO coaches and players will be distracted and not be themselves. This isn't rinky dink local footage for a Jeff Jeffers puff piece, it's for the world.

Agree, but am almost certain other coaches will bellyache about this being unfair, and it will be an ugly shitstorm, not that we aren't used to an annual ugly shitstorm.....

My worry is with money(From Showtime) they will have more expectations on the team and the coaches. It's easy to poo-poo the locals to get out

They already have cameras there, be it team staff or when media is allowed.

Alize and Nicco had their final season documented, they went on to another championship, I believe.

I don't think that they would have agreed to this without significant power regarding when and how they are taped. Lots of these kids came to Notre Dame for the reason of being on the big stage. Well, it's here. I'm not worried about it, personally.

Upside: Recruiting, merchandise sales, cash payment from Showtime, entertainment for fans, general awesomeness, national awareness.

Downside: ???

Heads. The minds of our individual players need to stay on the ground. Not in 'Showtime". I'll watch but this type of thing scares the crap out of me. These are kids and staying humble is asking an awful lot when you're primetime twice a week in a very open forum,.

It's not like the Showtime cameras will affect game prep, either. Their cameras can film warmups, individual and one-on-one work, and even some basic scrimmage stuff if they want. Once it's time for game-week instillation and planning, the cameras can hit the road, as they'd have plenty of material already.

Plus, the episodes won't air until after the game has been played, so it's not like each week's opponent is getting a sneak peak. They already have basic film on ND anyway.

It would have my full support if these players were being paid. Seems like exploitation and if I was a kid, I would opt out.

In a short-sighted way I totally get what you are saying. But as a player making a name for himself and who wants to represent the university, I'd be all-in. Seriously, the me-first attitude gets to be a bit ridiculous.

I want players to be paid as well but not for appearing on a TV show.

If any school can make this happen with as few distractions as possible, it's ND. They are tight-fisted with their program, and I doubt that changes much with this program. The kids are used to cameras around, as they do things with the ND camera crew all the time, so this is not going to be a ton different.

I look at this as another sign that the admin is starting to get it. This is a GREAT marketing tool if done right. It can be phenomenal, and can get a lot of misconceptions out of the way, as well as accentuating all the great aspects the university has to offer.

I love this.

This! This is exactly what their doing. It also shows how confident BK is in this team! This is the year!

call your cable provider, they can normally add showtime for free or 5 dollars for the first 6 months. Then cancel once the show is over

ND is the big winner along with Showtime. Free labor/talent has a great return. But it just rubs me the wrong way knowing they are not getting anything and they get to use their person for profit. Seems a bit hypocritical to scold a kid for taking money (ahem, NCAA) when people all around them are. I would be pissed knowing others can profit but I can't. More of a knock on NCAA than anything.

Like I said, I definitely understand where you are coming from and I hope players are given stipends, not "pay for play" or pay for interviews or cameos or video footage, etc.

They must sacrifice the rights to their own brand when joining a college team. If they are good enough to go pro, they can pump themselves up if need be.

The athletes do deserve more compensation, at least in my eyes, but I hope we don't get to contracts in college. It needs to be unanimous across the board so we don't see things spiral out of control.

But I agree with you, ND's chess moves as of late have me excited. This one especially.

To add to this, you can get showtime on Apple TV, iOS devices, Roku, PlayStation Vue and Hulu Plus for $10.99 without using cable.

I am on the fence with this. If it helps recruiting a little ok. But i am worried about players and coaches trying to impress for the show. I want to this tea to win and if there is even a thought that it could be a distraction then the shouldn't do it. Lets face it if you want to be in the spot light you need to play your way there. We need to earn this opportunity.

This team is already in the spotlight, every day, all season. There are always cameras around, there is always a media member asking questions, there is always an interview request waiting, etc. This show will change almost nothing.

If it WAS going to be a huge deal, I don't think BK and JS would have been okay with it.

TV show is a lot different than media interviews... Kids are going to get jealous when others are highlighted more than them. It's one of the reason NFL teams don't want Hard knocks and they started forcing teams

I disagree. Do they get jealous when certain guys get to give interviews at media days, after practices, and in the post-game pressers?

I think these guys are smart enough to know how a storyline works, as well as how seniority works. Some guys are going to see more camera time than others, and they're overly naive if that creates an issue. I bet at the end of the day, these guys will meet up every Tuesday night and laugh at eachother for being idiots on camera.

Excellent point. They implemented rules recently that force certain teams to accept Hard Knocks if no other team volunteers.

College is a bit different though because of recruiting. To me, I think it could be a distraction but the overall benefit outweighs it.
