rivals :Ohio State-Notre Dame battle moving forward

irish made up ground since denbrock took over his recruitment and has been talking w/ his mom
Mack is considering another visit to campus before his announcement on June 7

If we can reel him in, I'll eat some pasta with my first bowl of chili in the fall.

I thought we were basically out of it for Robertson and Mack. Great news!

It's good to see Denbrock back in the recruiting game. He is our best recruiter at the moment.

Guarantee lol

Shouldn't have even had the chance this year. Got really lucky the committee was willing to overlook piss poor performances during the season in favor of a great conference championship. TCU should have gotten that spot and would probably be National Champs right now otherwise.

Even if it's not a huge need, losing a in state player as good as Mack hurts pretty bad.

We were all prepared for this. It's not a year of need. He has eyes and sees that he's two years away from playing at ND.

....and Javon McKinnley is coming and that makes him the other guy at his home state school.

Life is good for the Irish at WR right now and when you lose guys because you are stacked you just have to smile.

I don't think anyone can deny that they earned the trophy, but whether they had earned their place in the playoffs is definitely arguable. Maybe you've forgotten how screwed up that election process was though.

The team they got in over - TCU - didn't have the same blemishes during the year and was equally dominant in their bowl game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... JT Barrett getting hurt was the best thing that happened to them. They simplified the offense to be Tebow-esque with Cardale Jones and were unreal at converting 3rd downs. The team that smoked Wisconsin/Alabama/Oregon to end the year was very different from the one needing overtimes and bogus calls to beat Penn State, struggling against Minnesota, and losing to 6-loss VT.

Seems that's the way a lot. Our 2012 team played differently against Alabama than they had played during the season, just like OSU's 2006 team against Florida. Even this last year, we were a very different team against NU than we were against FSU.

The regular season shouldn't be ignored in any discussion of a team. OSU was mediocre at best to start last season and awesome to close it. We were great in 2012 and sucked in the Alabama game. People can't just cherry pick games to describe the greatness of a team.

If you say 2014 OSU was defined by beating Alabama and Oregon, I say it was defined by losing to one 6-loss team and taking another to two overtimes. The picture is bigger than either microcosm.

It's no different. It's just that the computers tell a group of 'experts' what 3 games will be played vs. just one.

Get to 8 teams and all will be fixed. When the 5th team misses they may have a beef as there are 5 Power Conf's but if it's 8 teams, the 9th team obviously didn't take care of business.

If that is his assumption then fine. But if that is what Urban Liar is pitching...that is the biggest load of crap ever and it is sad he believes it. Although, with the super easy schedule OSU plays, they do have a good chance of making the playoffs every year.

If Notre Dame had just won a national title I would expect our head coach to use the guarantee to play for another one as a selling point, and we'd love and eat it up.

Seems like the least controversial thing ever.

I'm not sure about that. If you want to argue that you have a much better shot here than there, that's fine. You start throwing the word "guarantee" around and you sound either ignorant or arrogant.

Okay, sure it's arrogant then. So what? Meyer just earned his 3rd ring he has every right to sell the guarantee for a 'chance to play' for a national title. That doesn't even register on some of the crazy things Meyer has said over the years. I'd be shocked if he isn't selling this--just like I would be if a ND coach were in the same position.

I think losing out on Robertson vs. Mack is bigger. We are at a need for DE. We are stacked at WR. Justin Brent and Corey Holmes played decently at the B&G this year and I am excited for ESB, CJ, Boykin, and Guyton coming in.

I don't think Urban Liar won this recruitment on his own, don't forget that he now has Alford in his corner and that is a plus especially for OSU when OSU and ND are recruiting the same kids.

This sucks. Hate losing one of the top instate players.

Don't think anything will change, but it's a long way till the first week of February. Maybe OSU will lose a few games and Urban will have heart pains.

I hope not because that is the worst sales pitch. Like Beau said...never guarantee a trip to the NC. Saban doesn't even say this and he has been to the NC more often.

I would not bet on them losing any games early this year. Their schedule is weak as shat. We are getting our butts kicked in the midwest/Indiana.

Worst sales pitch?

I'd say the odds are enormously more in favor of OSU getting back to a national title game than Mack being an All-American, the OSU degree doing amazing things for him after he's done, and several other recruiting pitches he was likely sold on.

There's zero downside for Meyer to say something like that. So why not guarantee it?
