Collegiate start No. 2 and career pass attempt No. 36 for Zaire is a little more than 100 days away, when Texas visits for the prime-time season opener (7:30 EDT) Sept. 5 at Notre Dame Stadium.

Roughly 900 miles to the south and a half an hour later, Golson and the Seminoles will take the field against Texas State, a game currently slated to be televised on ESPNews.

Nice little poke at Golson: ND will be on the national stage in prime time, while you will be on ESPNews.

Because there is some conversation of Kizer of Wimbush in here, Wiltfong had some interesting things to say about the backup QB spot today. He continues to hear good things about Wimbush and he thinks that when it comes time to put in a 2nd QB this season, that QB is Wimbush.

Damn straight I thought the same when I read that. This guy is our QB.

Some great highlights from the article for the TL:DR crowd:

“I asked him about it all the time: ‘Are you happy with the situation at Notre Dame? How are your classes? How are you doing academically?’ ” Domsitz said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “And he never wavered on that in any conversation we ever had, always answering, ‘I’m in the right place.’

...

A coach familiar with both quarterbacks, but who asked to remain anonymous, said Golson was the more advanced, more skilled passer, but that what Zaire is able to do with his legs “will open up things in the passing game Golson was unable to in Brian Kelly’s offense.”

...

“It’s not like he just had one target to look at, and if he wasn’t open, it was time to run,” Domsitz said. “Malik had a number of different check-downs. In other words, if No. 1 wasn’t open, he knew where No. 2 was, he knew where No. 3 was.” (Subtle jab at Golson?)

Accuracy was consistent and arm strength underrated, the coach added.

“I think we all saw that in the Blue-Gold Game,” Domsitz said referring to a TD bomb from Zaire to Will Fuller.

‘When Malik has been in the situation where he knows that he’s the No. 1 guy, his focus peaks at that point. I think in the coming weeks you’ll see someone who’s going to study the game. He’s going to paying attention to detail.

“And he brings confidence. Lots of confidence. And it serves him well.”

.

I saw Chuck at the Central Catholic - Findlay game, and I think one other.

When Kizer was recruited he had one of the highest ratings of available quarterbacks, at over 0.90X, and had an impressive offer list. The biggest thing that has hurt DK is his insistence to play three sports, and his unwillingness or inability to enroll early.

I just have a feeling that DK will contribute in his time at ND, and the competition between DK and BW isn't over before it starts.

It's no 40" box jump with dumbells, but I'll take it.

Baylor's Shawn Oakman (although they said it was two 70 pound dumbells, it's clearly two 35 pound)

Go get 'em, Malik!!

OT - Oakman is a mammoth human being. Not saying those are 70's (watching the video is inconclusive, I'd guess 55 maybe?) Dude is like 6'9" 280lbs and shredded. Scary that people exist with that kind of size and athleticism.

Google the memes... They're funny :)

Oakman was pretty average in the Cotton Bowl i thought Conklin from MSU handled him pretty well

I thought the one in his left hand said 35, but after second look (and relative to his size) it could be a 55. Not 70's though, I agree.

Anyways, didn't mean to derail the thread. Just thought it was crazy.

He didn't have a great game, but he did record 3 tackles and a sack.

Oakman is a pretty decent player. He had 11 sacks for the season (11th most in the league)

He had 1 sack combined vs TCU, WVU, Oklahoma and MSU.

Not saying either this guy can't play on Sundays but he's not an every down DE

That doesn't tell the whole story whatsover. He was a beast against TCU. He had 7 tackles and a bunch of QB hurries. It was possibly his best game of the year. The other games he didn't record sacks, but he wasn't taken out of the game.

Using that logic, Joey Bosa recorded ZERO sacks against MSU, Bama, Oregon and Wisconsin. Does that make him not an every down DE too?

You mean people game plan around dominant players so they can't just put up Tecmo Bowl numbers every day?

That's not true.

Jaylon Smith terrorizes every opponent and had 83.5 TFL last season.

Jaylon plays LB. It's a whole lot harder to take a LB out of the game than a DE. With a DE, you can easily add 1-2 additional blockers and/or run the play to the other side. Jaylon plays in space, Oakman plays on the line.

I was being facetious, considering BK's numerous comments about teams game planning and keeping Jaylon from wreaking havoc last season.

just like clowney when he didn't put up huge numbers his last year....the fact that the teams had to change their plan to get away from him leads to less opportunities

83.5 TFL last season. I am going to go ahead and assume that Lion's post was mostly tongue-in-cheek.

Rumors of a possibility of Malik working with Tom House, a former pitching coach in the major leagues and at USC. He not only works with pitchers, but has branched out to work with some big time QBs. Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Alex Smith and Tim Tebow have all paid a visit to USC to work with House.

He wasn't impressed with the results of George Whitfield's work? Ha ha
