I dunno. Cincy isn't that big a TV market (34th, according to Nielsen. Smaller than Salt Lake and Hartford). And it's smaller when you figure how many of those TVs are tuned in to the OSU game.
They're a weird tweener program. Almost too good for their conference. But neither big nor committed enough for the P5.
Either way, I suspect Gunner will be the most successful Notre Dame QB of his generation on Sundays. Which is not to say he'd have been the most successful QB at Notre Dame.

34th as far as a TV market isn't shabby, but you're right when you're talking about Cinci as a tweener program. Cinci is kind of a melting pot of many different teams. You see Irish fans down here (Not the majority, but there's good Catholic ties in areas). There's certainly tOSU fans like many parts of Ohio, but not always in the concentrations you would think. There's lots and lots of Kentucky fans north of the river, but rarely for football of course. There's certainly plenty of Cinci fans too and they typically don't like tOSU. Ultimately the Cinci area cares more about the Bengals and Reds than anything, and probably UK basketball, or Cinci/Xavier basketball. It certainly isn't a big college football area, and they do have to contend with the Irish and tOSU fans.

34th isn't nothing. But when you're adding slices to the TV revenue pie, you want to make sure the cut you're adding brings in more than it gets back. Rutgers and Maryland did that for the Big Ten. Less clear that Cincy does so for the Big 12 or ACC.
Either way, yeah, it's a pro sports town and those can be tough places for a college program to break through, especially one with little history and that's second fiddle, at best, in its own state.
Also, it says something that Ohio has more D1 programs than any state except Texas, but that only one of them is ever relevant beyond Ohio.

He sat at my table during the Spring game pre game brunch. We talked about how pathetic the teams were he played against in HS and he seemed very shell shocked at the speed of the game in spring practice. I was surprised he made it through eating those over-priced eggs at the brunch. He sounded so defeated then at the brunch.

We had a good conversation though. His parents are originally from Elkhart, IN but moved either right before or after he was born. To think he could have been an Elkhart Central Blue Blazer......

They may have lived there as young adults but all the Kiels are originally from Columbus and played football together there.

Bad throw. Stared down his receiver. He looked good running the ball the first possession.

Need to see the replay but it looked like the guy started his tackle just before he started to slide.

I hope gunner is OK. No targeting IMO they both were going down. Just the speed of the game.

Supposedly he is moving his extremities which is a good sign.

Idk if you can go paralyzed a few seconds AFTER the hit but he rolled himself over after the hit so I thought that was a good sign. So he didn't lose consciousness. At least not immediately.

I'm not saying it was legal, but from the comments I thought it'd be a lot more vicious of a hit. He drops his head, but I don't think the defender's head actually hits Keil. It's a penalty though since he's sliding.

Dude. The crown of the defender's helmet hit him right in the facemask as he was sliding. That is the definition of bad.

That's not what I see from the video above. Looks like he drops his head but his arm/shoulder is only thing that makes contact.
