Nice. Very rarely do we get day away games haha. Hoping Temple and Pitt are during the day as well.

That's funny. I live in Virginia and I'm planning to drive to PA. for the ND-Temple game at the Linc.

Of Note
Virginia's defensive coordinator is Jon Tenuta, who was at Notre Dame in 2008-09, and the defensive line coach is Jappy Oliver, the Irish defensive line coach from 2005-08 under Charlie Weis. The Cavs' offensive line coach, Dave Borberly, had the same job title at Notre Dame from 1998-2001.

Virginia hung in there strongly for the first half, but by game's end were being plowed over by superior force. The QB seemed to have some skill, but I saw little overall speed and no pass rush. My guess is that we can pass on these guys all day, and run on them all second half if we'd rather be patient and wear them down. ... not a terrible team though, and they'll be playing after sleeping in their own beds rather than having to cross the entire country. The game will need a true effort, not a throw the Gold Helmet out there and cruise, that's for sure.

ND always has a game early in the year where they win comfortably (10+) but look sloppy as all hell doing it. I think this game is a good candidate to be that kind of game this year, especially after a big win over Texas.

I would rather it be against Ga. Tech. :)

My fervent hope is we cap this squad so early that we get a ton of second team play time, and avoid any injuries.

We have had more than our share of significant injuries, but they have been spread around and are survivable without downgrading the potency of the team, in my opinion.

But from a morale and a team concentration standpoint, distancing ND players from any thought of injury might not be a bad idea at this time!

Deja vu all over again

Deja vu all over again

UVA got hit with a dose of Fuller last Saturday. UCLA's Fuller. He was the leading receiver with 6 catches. Good for 44 yds and a TD.

This week they get the real deal, ND's Fuller, who took just 1 of his catches 66 yds and a TD.

UVA's CB couldn't stay with the UCLA, receiving corps. 11 Bruins pulled in a pass.

Big Play Fuller will have a big day.

This is a minor issue, and maybe I am missing something, but I think it is cheap to not send the band to UVA. They took a bus to FSU, as I understand, and UVA is much closer (a long day of driving, but possible in a day). I know UVA is not a "big" game to us, but any game where ND plays is a big game to an opponent, and the band is such a part of ND tradition that it is a shame they are not going to perform. It would also be nice for all of the ND fans who are making the trip to Cville. "It's too expensive" is simply not a good excuse at ND, especially as regards football.

they are only traveling for the SS game, they normally only travel to 1 game a year but if it is a big enough game they will send part of the band.

Fair enough. I guess my perception is skewed by the fact that the bigger schools usually send at least part of their band (often the entire band) to ND, but that's presumably because it is their "big" road game. Surely it wouldn't be that difficult to have a small part of the band go to all of the road games.

I'm surprised Blanding didn't have a bigger impact in the game this past week. The kid was a stud coming out of HS so I'm guessing he's just not being coached up?

He's very, very good. He can't tackle/cover everybody.

Eh, he got beat a few times against the UCLA receiving core. I'm sure he's good, but I was expecting more I guess.

Are these 2 starting OL they lost in week 1? Or were these guys who were already out and/or back ups? If they just lost 2 starting OL, they're in for a world of hurt on Saturday.

To add a little more detail... Fieler was second string right tackle. He was expected to start going into fall camp, but was beat out by someone else (can't recall the name). Tetlow was backup center. Not a season ender for their OL, but it's a big hit to the 2 deep this early in the season.
