Texas could be a much closer game than I was originally anticipating. They always recruit well as evidenced by their signing classes the last 4 years:

In 2012, they signed 30 recruits. In 2013 - 15 recruits, in 2014 - 22, in 2015 - 29 and they have top 10 talent at multiple positions.

Their offensive line recruits look legit, they'll be young but if their OL coach is worth a sh*t, they'll be ready for the game.

The Texas offense is moving to an uptempo team and they have a young gun by the name of Jerrod Heard who runs and throws well.

Early reports indicate he isn't as good of a passer as Swoopes but he's far more athletic and able to creatively improvise. Heard sounds a lot like Malik.

They also have their own Malik...Jefferson, whose a lot like our Jaylon Smith. Hopefully he'll have young man growing pains in his first game in the bright lights.

Sounds like their WRs are stacked.

The worst part about playing Texas early is that their poor depth won't have time to take it's toll. Not that we need that but it's always nice to have an extra ally in back alley brawls.

I hope Kelly and the staff get this team ready because Texas will be looking to ruin our season out of the gate and I have a lot of respect for Charlie Strong. He gutted the program and intends to rebuild from the ground up. They will be a force in 2016 onward.

It's almost impressive to be a worse passer than Swoopes.

Fair enough but we've been torched by worse. Look at 4 of our 5 losses last year. This team will have, at minimum, as much talent as any of them and probably more. The only thing going is they are going to be extremely young.

All this talk in the offseason about preparing for the uptempo better be more than lip service, because Texas will be looking to move at a blistering pace.

I still have nightmares of the UNC game and we won. Imagine the year we expect to make a national push and we get caught in a shootout because we can't adjust.

I'm trying to give each of our opponents respect this year. I thought there was no way we'd lose to Northwestern or Louisville but our defense tanked after injuries. It could happen again.

Like pretty much every ND game (especially home games) if the offense starts fast and ND gets ahead of UT then I think a comfortable win is on the cards. If things aren't sharp early on and ND lets UT hang around then I might get worried.

At the same time, ND is what 4/5 years ahead of UT when it comes to program rebuilding. I'd still consider ND strong favourites

Tuck Fexas and Charlie Strong!

I wouldn't go that far. I want to win, but Charlie is a good guy. He's a former ND coach, had the pleasure of attending a football camp at ND under his teaching back in '97. He's also still very good friends with Lou and consulted with him before taking the Texas job if I recall. I'll root for Texas in every game next season....except on Sept. 5th.

Any idea how much tickets would be for this one? Cheaper if I go the scalping route?

When ticket go on sale in late summer (early August I believe), get on und.com immediately when the tickets go on sale. They are going to go extremely fast, especially for this game. You'd pay no less than $200 a piece if you scalped

Can I ask where you're getting that price? Face value at the ticket will probably be between $90-$100. $125 sounds odd because face value for the Michigan game last year wasn't even that much
It's not "probably" between $90 and $100. It absolutely IS $125.

Source: The University of Notre Dame. Ticket lottery applications for contributing alumni were sent out today.

What are single game home ticket prices this year?
Texas- $125
Georgia Tech - $85
Massachusetts - $75
Navy - $85
USC - $125
Wake Forest - $75

What are away game ticket prices this year?
at Virginia - $65
at Clemson - $85
at Temple (Lincoln Financial Services Field) - $60
at Pittsburgh - $85
at Stanford - $80

What are the ticket prices for the Shamrock Series game?
Ticket prices for the Shamrock Series game are $225 for Side and $175 for End.

I just got an email from my uncle about the season tickets today. I will share with you some of the information just to outline the costs of being a ticket holder. (it aint cheap)

Good morning

I have just completed the Notre Dame ticket application for 2015 and sent $5,220 to the university. This will come due in mid-June.

I know you will be shocked to learn that the price has gone up, although this year it is the donation and the parking fees that increased most. The price of every single ticket now includes a $100 donation. (The total donation is $2,400, and we have 24 tickets.)

Game prices are variable based on the quality of the opponent. Texas and USC cost $125, the highest prices ever. Georgia Tech and Navy are $85. UMass and Wake Forest are $75.

Parking increased to $90. It would be nice if that paid for someone to keep it organized.

I get to count 80 percent of the donation as charitable contribution, and that will save about $300 on my taxes, so I am subtracting $50 from the price of each ticket package.

Based on that math, here are the prices for each game package of four tickets:

Sept. 5 — Texas, $940

Sept. 19 — Ga. Tech, $780

Sept. 26 — UMass, $740

Oct. 10 — Navy, $780

Oct. 17 — USC, $940

Nov. 14 — Wake Forest, $740

I want to keep up the discussion of transferring the tickets to someone younger. That requires an advance donation of 10 years or $24,000. That would eliminate the annual donation for the next 10 years. It also would save money by locking in the donation. For instance, if we had done it last year, it would have saved at least $2,000 (probably more) over the next 10 years by avoiding this year’s $200 donation increase.

Can we pay for the tickets in vBucks? Getting expensive to go to games!

If those are sideline lower level seats it isn't completely horrible. If it is a grab bag of crappy seats it is ridiculous. I like that they tier pricing for the opponent but would really prefer to see premier seats marked up and endzone uppers to be significantly cheaper.

For perspective, I paid over $100 per for Pitt tickets (at Pitt) two years ago for 20 yard line lowers when they were a .500 team. Road games are expensive too (granted uppers at Pitt were available much cheaper).

I'd rather play the lottery than mess with season tickets. The donations are too rich. Unless you writing it off as a business entertainment expense it is hard to validate. That is why we have so much away team colors in the bowl b/c people have to sell tickets to make it worthwhile.

I predict:

(1) That line moves down since people don't think ND can smoke anyone.
(2) We beat them by more than that.

Could be a good betting day for ND fans.

Gone before they are on sale?

Students/faculty/family, season tickets, and Texas allotment don't = 80,000+.

Oh it is possible. Last year there were only single tickets left for the Michigan game before the tickets were even released to the public

Alum ticket lottery will have WAY more demand than supply for Texas and USC. I imagine only single tickets will be available for both of those.

I will be curious how Shamrock in Fenway sells with ticket levels of $175 and $225.

If you aren't involved with your local alumni club, it's a great way to get preferred access to tickets for games. For example, my local club has 40 tickets avail for Texas.

Even if you're not an alum, the clubs will welcome your participation. I was just at the LC15 conference on campus and met a lot of non-alum club leadership.

Anybody know of an alumni club in Indy? Closes thing I'll ever get to degree from ND. That or buy one of the license plates next time I renew.

There are several tiers of applicants in the alumni lottery based on how much you give to the University, starting at $250, then Corby Society at $500, Sorin Society at $1,500, and up from there. I'm a Corby member and can apply for four tickets to most games. For Fenway, I wasn't able to apply for the $225 tickets at all and could only put in for two tickets at the $175 price point.
