And always finish with a top 10 class to boot. (Or borderline top 10)

I don't think that's gonna happen this year with us taking a smaller class. Valid point nonetheless.

Pretty sure Kelly has only signed one top 10 class but he hasn't had any outside of the top 20.

Class rankings 2011-2015

Rivals Scout ESPN
2011 - 10 - t8 - 9
2012 - 20 - 16 - 9
2013 - 3 - 5 - 4
2014 - 11 - 6 - 11
2015 - 11 - 6 - 13

I would say 4 top 10 with 1 top 5

2013 - 3 - 5 - 4
2014 - 11 - 6 - 11
2015 - 11 - 6 - 13

Definitely a good resume, but to be fair, we definitely didn't get top 10 results out of the 2011 and 2012 classes. Half of those guys weren't even playing in 2014 (or were hurt). 2014 and 2015 were closer to the 6th ranking Scout gave us than 11-13 Rivals/ESPN gave.

Depends on how you look at it and whose rankings you trust.

According to 247Comp:

Total Points: #9 in 2011, #18 in 2012, #5 in 2013, #11 in 2014 (.1 behind USC at #10), and #13 in 2015.

Avg Points: #17 in 2011, #13 in 2012, #3 in 2013, #15 in 2014, and #6 in 2015.

According to Scout:

Total Points: #t8 in 2011, #16 in 2012, #5 in 2013, #6 in 2014, #6 in 2015

Avg Points: #t7 in 2011, #6 in 2012, #4 in 2013, #6 in 2014, #6 in 2015

According to Rivals:

Total Points: #10 in 2011, #20 in 2012, #3 in 2013, #11 in 2014, #11 in 2015

Avg Points: #11 in 2011, #10 in 2012, #2 in 2013, #12 in 2014, #9 in 2015

Setting aside the debate over whether rankings matter in first place, none of these rankings matter if you cannot hold onto the guys who sign their papers. Look at the attrition from those first two or three classes. Give me a class any year that is "ranked" tenth and stays intact over a class that is third on signing day and loses four or five guys over the next two years for off-the-field issues.

Edit: dad4aa beat me to it, but the point stands.

Me as well, really like this kid. Mentions of academic hurdles at 247.

Not specific to Naquan, but how is information about kids' academics so readily available? It seems like a recruit's academic standing is public info these days.

Depends on who the recruiting service is talking to. Could be family, school, football coach, or recruit himself.

Can't see the school or coach saying anything, but agree a family member, the recruit or a friend even.

Everett Golson's cousin is his trainer so there is a relationship there. They spent time at Golson's house prior to leaving South Bend.

He was moving very well for that size in Chicago. I really hope he can get his academics straighten out because he's a good one. We need to recruit 3 down players at NT and Naquan fits that bill, IMO. Tillery is a very very good start but we need to keep em coming.

This scenario is completely different than that of Robertson.
