'12 SC WR Chris Brown (Notre Dame Man)

Can someone with greater observational skills explain what's going on with Chris?

Is he running poor routes? Not getting enough separation? Still being doubled?

I'm hoping he has a breakthrough game this season, but my optimism is fading.

They actually talked about this during the game yesterday. They saw on film he wasn't exploding off the line and there was something else. So they put a gps in his shoulder pads to track him better.

Interesting. I was at the game, so I missed the coverage. I'm glad they are working with him to resolve his issues. It seems like he SHOULD be more of a threat, but his talent just hasn't manifested into major productivity.

I agree. However he has made some big catches when he needed to. Fuller is now the deep threat.

Just bumping his ratings. IMO, it's not like he's under performing based on those.

Im gonna move my thoughts to his topic, and hope someone does the legwork.

3 drives before cbrown fumbled I was asking myself, I wonder what the % is for drives/plays that brown is in that have resulted in turnovers/ punts. So yea 1 of you stat heroes look that up. Tds/turnovers 3rd down efficiency with n without brown. Might just be in my head, but im pretty sure the offense functions much better when hes on sideline.

He just doesn't win. He doesn't get separation off the line most of the time. He can't beat single coverage. I'm sure Kelly has a reason, but the O, from the eye test, seems to be more successful when someone else is out there.

I think Brown is going to be the odd man out.. Just seems like he is good, but we need to find ways to get Hunter on the field

Irish Illustrated just said in their podcast that Brown looked amazing at the last practice. In fact, they said Robinson hadn't earned any reps against him. Since Robinson shares the same position, I think he's more in danger of losing reps to Brown than Brown is to Hunter.

So if Robinson can't get past Brown, and Robinson is a 1st rounder this year, ipso facto, we have three, 1st round WR talents. OMG!

I think our ultimate 3 will be Hunter, Brown and Fuller. And we'll get helpings of ESB, Sanders, Robinson and Carlisle.

And we'll have all types of formations that'll involve 2 and 3 TE sets which will alter which WRs are out there.

I am so excited about this year! I hope Chris Brown plays himself into a draft pick this year. He has the athleticism, he just needs to play loose

When are people going to realize Chris Brown is practice All-American that doesn't perform anywhere near that level in games? He was being praised like this last year, too.

True. He looked better in the bowl game, but as of right now, II insists that Brown will be starting. And the main competition for his spot hasn't had a great camp supposedly. Everyone will get some reps, but my money is on Brown to retain his starting spot.

I doubt Chris Brown will be the odd man out. I think Hunter will play in the slot more than Carlisle once push comes to shove. The thing to watch is if St. Brown starts taking Robinson's reps behind Brown.

And with Will Fuller demanding the defenses' attention you'd think he'd be able to be able to take advantage.

Do you remember the Stuff Kelly would say about Theo? I didn't think he had a year worthy of that praise until his senior year...

Sometimes it all comes together on game day when the "unconscious competence" is there, and the maturity is there to be bigger than the stage...

I always felt that way about DaVaris Daniels. He had all the talent in the world and we saw flashes of brilliance in games but he never seemed quite engaged with the game.

Dude was on track to be a top 3 WR in CFB, or at least I thought. Lol

DD never even played for ND as far as I'm concerned. He had two big games, IMO. NCG and Purdue. I can't remember another game he participated in to be honest.

Watching the WR corps this year is going to be a 'delight!' I really think we have a number of guys that can take the top off of a defense, and we can stay big and still do it.

Safety in numbers? I think there is a point when the leaders of a position group become good enough and the number of them becomes large enough that it pulls even those players that have had problems before.

I think that if Malik can really be consistent, everyone prospers at wide receiver.

I really appreciate TP's post, because I think Torii will really settle in at slot. Just a feeling!

Truth be told, it hasn't been easy on the WR's. This will be their 3rd different starting quarterback in the senior classes time here. I know some schools have that on the regular, but it's also hard to develop a consistent chemistry when there isn't succession. I think the WR corps as a whole will start to take a jump this year with being able to work an entire offseason with the starter.

Consistency is so important. Manning had some HOF's to throw to, but did you ever wonder why he could make average guy look so good? He practiced with them before and after practice. 2-3 hours before game time, he was going through the routes with the receivers making sure they were on the same page.

Maybe it was just one game, but it seemed Brown got A LOT more looks when Malik was in. Brown was practically a ghost to Gholston
