His words, jackass.

Ohio State has rings we don't. A kid wants to win he goes to a winner and not us frankly.
It was a stupid response. I apologize.I've been called a lot worse..................
by a lot better.![]()
So what's the correct answer for a coach seeking upward mobility that he isn't getting at his current job? Bail immediately after the regular season? That might be the best answer, but that's simply not realistic based on how the coaching carousel works.
Was Alford supposed to say "no thanks" for a chance to expand his resume in one of the best ways possible?

3 questions:
1) Who is "not us frankly?"
2) Notre Dame doesn't have rings?
3) Who the hell are you?
I am 30 years old and ND's last National Championship is a vague memory. To a 17 year old kid trying to decide on a college, ND having rings is about as equivalent to you or I reading about or being told about how great the 1908 Cubs were.
How is Alford such a bad guy if we are ok with others doing it as long as it benefits ND?
So would it have been better if he had told Dexter that he wasn't going to be here next year and Dexter chose not to come to ND because of that? I realize that would be an honorable thing to do but wouldn't ND fans be pissed that Alford didn't do his best to close out this class before he left? And who is to say he knew before NSD? It was common knowledge he was interviewing for another job before NSD so I would think if Alford was possibly going to go to OSU then that would have been news, as well. And as many have pointed out, Kelly did the exact same thing when he left Cincy and we are all hoping Denson will do the same thing to USF. How is Alford such a bad guy if we are ok with others doing it as long as it benefits ND?
Alford did his job until the day he left. In a normal setting, that would be admirable. Guys have to look out for themselves, and that's what Alford did. He never neglected his job here, even when he was looking elsewhere.

Injured,
Also, Alford was not "on the market" in the weeks leading up to Signing Day. Not after he didn't get the CSU job anyway. Then Ohio State's running backs coach left for a job with the Bears, announced on Signing Day or the day after. Then OSU went after Alford to replace him.
Alford played hard til the whistle for us and - while I get why Dexter Williams might be pissed - that's really all you can ask for.
Bottom line- Williams got hosed by the situation, but is making the right, mature decision by sticking around. I think that likely suggests Alford did a GREAT job of selling the school to him. Hard to be mad at the guy for that much.

Hoping the new OC, and new RBs coach will turn the run game up a couple notches. It will be interesting to see how the new coaching additions will impact both the running and passing games. I'd love to see GB blossom into the guy I thought he'd be. The outcome will tell us a lot about just how good some of our departed coaches really were.

Wait. Is OFD suggesting that Wood was a consistent, big play back?
Nope, Julius Jones was their comparison.
Sweet, now THAT I can get behind. Possibly my favorite ND back of all time. Really enjoyed watching Jones play!
