Man this is some Tipper Gore level stuff in here. Saying players that make a rap video are not the right fit for Notre Dame is one of the most ridiculous NDnation type comments I have seen. Rap is not inherently offensive. It is just music with pre-fabricated beats where the singer talks quickly. The guy made a music video. Who cares. And I don't like rap, at all. But I understand it is not evil.

I have a professional position (custodial arts IS a professsion, right?) with a fortune top 20 company and am a registered member of the Garden Valley Gangsters and have attempted a rap video as well.

Hell, on our quotes white board for our Department To see, I put up "Don't stop, get it get it" cited by anonymous.

Hip hop lives bruh.

It's not the rap, it's the HEY LOOK AT ME prima donna attitude. At least, I'm guessing that is his point.

Lyght's coaching career for those who don't know:

Coaching career
Lyght began a career in coaching in 2009, following several years of working in private business and as a football analyst on radio. His first position was as an assistant football coach at Bishop Gorman High School in Summerlin, Nevada. While on staff, the team won back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010.

In 2011, Lyght joined the staff at the University of Oregon as a defensive intern under head coach Chip Kelly. Lyght was initially contacted about the open position by Ducks defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti, who happened to be an assistant coach with the Rams during Lyght's playing days.

Lyght was named assistant defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL in 2013. The hiring reunited him with Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who had departed Oregon for the Eagles following the 2012 season.

Following the 2014 season, Lyght was hired by Vanderbilt to be their cornerbacks coach.

Would he really leave Vandy after just being hired? That would be pretty crappy.

Great news indeed!

With his resume, you don't have to worry about regional familiarity... you just show them your National Championship ring, your Pro Bowl ring and your Super Bowl ring, then hand them a pen and say, "Sign on the dotted line."

Another benefit, you can send him after all the Polynesian kids as he's a Pacific Islander too.

Anybody know how he's done in recruiting? And would they send him to Texas to replace Cooks or shift people around?

I was wonder the same thing. Since he played and coached out west maybe he gets the west coast recruiting and they shuffle some of the other guys around. Would definitely be smart to keep a good recruiter in the Texas and LA region though

My dad played with Todd at Flint Powers in MI, always told me stories of how awesome he was. Sounds like this is a fantastic hire.

Before we get all excited about Lyght, let's get back to talking about Cooks' departure. He was one of our best recruiters, and he made a horizontal jump from ND to OU because we don't pay our f*cking assistants enough! Just like when Warriner left, I predicted that our OL recruiting would fall off a cliff! ND will never win a National Championship again unless.... (robble robble robble)

So basically, the question then becomes does Elliot move back to safeties from being "OLB" coach... and do we hire another QB coach, or do something like bring in Quinn as an offensive assistant. Everyone seems to think Quinn joining the staff is unlikely, but we'll see.

I don't think we know that. In one of the articles that I read online, about his recruiting, it was mentioned that he has strong familial ties to Dallas, TX. Dallas is less than 200 miles from Norman, OK. South Bend is almost 1,000 miles from Dallas. It's very possible that he might have elderly parents living in Dallas, and this is strictly a family issue for him.

I was being facetious, moose. Kelly has not, in fact, had any trouble attracting talented coaches to South Bend. The first voluntary departure from Kelly's staff that caused some hand-wringing (Warriner) was immediately replaced with a home-run hire (Hiestand). And it looks like the second such voluntary departure (Cooks) will be replaced in a similar manner.

We obviously don't know exactly how much our assistant coaches are making, but salaries apparently aren't an issue.

What I heard was that is was a combo of stuff. Getting passed over for DC when Diaco moved on means he probably has to look elsewhere to keep moving up the ladder and not get stale, Oklahoma is paying more $$$, and the regional ties you're talking about.

Given all those facts, it's easy to see why he'd make a move.

It's amazing how everyone thinks the Quinn will come in here and just revolutionize ND.

I dont know how much he had to do with the 2011 class at Oregon but they signed the #11 class that year including the following:
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu 4:s:, 2x all pac, 3rd team and 1st team AA.
in the 2012 class they added S Reggie Daniels 4:s:, Amakao brothers (CB, S both 3:s:).

However, he was not listed as a top recuiter in Pac for either year.

...and won't it be nice for Coach Cooks to walk into any high school (or junior college now) and say, "I like you kid and OU wants to offer you!" To which the player responds, "I haven't taken my ACT's yet..." only to have Cooks interrupt him with a supervillainesque "Who cares! Bwahahahahahaha!!!"

I also found it rather telling that yesterday when Kelly was asked what he learned from this years recruiting cycle, BK's one take home was that they need to stay on top of a recruits academic situation more.

Now, there was one recruit that I know of that had academic issues which cause issues for ND this year (McKinney)... and that one recruits area recruiter also happened to be his position coach (Cooks). Furthermore, the connection between the player and coach was proven when the player ended up following the coach at the last minute to the coach's new school.

I dont think it is an exaggeration to say that part of BK's comments were aimed at Cooks... maybe old purple face and Coach Cooks had some tension as a result of this situation. After all, if not for the McKinney fiasco and the resultant failed mad scramble for a safety at the end, this class would have been almost perfect.

I have no inside knowledge of course... but I can easily see how this may have caused tension between the two and may have been part of the reason Coach Cooks was interested in a lateral move.

If we are going full conspiracy theory. Maybe Cooks WAS on top of McKinney's academic situation and knew he could still get into OU and not ND. But, you never go full conspiracy theory.

I love the Todd Lyght hire. He can speak from first hand experience what it's like to play at ND and be able to speak on what the degree has meant to him. Not only that but he has NFL experience and was hired by an SEC school. I think it's a terrific addition.

Tip of the cap to BK.
