Not involved with the Alabama program at this point and isn't expected to be on the roster on the fall.

He and another player were shown the door by Saban to likely make some room for someone like Larry Cage.

So Saban told him that he should probably leave if he ever wanted to play, right? I'm just assuming that, with their RB depth and Saban's penchant for over signing. Seems like the logical explanation.

Would we even want him? Seems like if he's not good enough to earn a roster spot on Bama we shouldn't be interested. Talent isn't the problem with our RB core.

He's good enough for their roster, just not going to pass their top two RB's. So it's better for Saban to open up a spot.

He is a great athlete. I remember his Opening performance as a recruit, and was very impressed with him. He's definitely more talented than a lot of our lower tier guys, and that alone should be worth seeing if a change of scenery could help him tap his potential.

I'm not getting my hopes up, though.

Well we know it's not going to happen. I was just curious if we would even want him.

Absolutely all of this.

Let's see a 17 or 18 year old kid vs. a 20ish year old who's spent two years in the strength and conditioning program at Alabama? I'd take Tenpenny without hesitation.

Tenpenny likely had a meeting with Saban that confirmed what he already knew: that with Henry and Drake set to be the 1-2 guys and two 5-star newcomers (Scarbrough & Harris), he won't be any higher on the depth chart than 3rd, and likely no higher than 4th or 5th. Time to look elsewhere if he wants any significant playing time.

With Saban recently awarding schollies to two walkons, Tenpenny wasn't forced out. He was just given an honest assessment of his likeliness of ever starting or breaking into the heavy rotation. He's a good back who could contribute or start at many other places, but is buried on the depth chart at Bama.

There are too many kids at places like Alabama and State U that take too many sham/non-transferrable classes to be eligible to transfer to a place like ND. Riggs came FL but he had already graduated.

Plus, we barely have enough room for our incoming class and key 5th years...not sure where we are going to find the room for any transfers, even if we are hypothetically speaking.

Agreed. Time to cut him and move on.

Man, I would really love it if we could jump on a transfer opportunity here, space permitting. I loved Altee out of high school, and we recruited him fairly heavily then. I would think this would be a situation where, like with Amir Carlisle, we have the admissions data we need to make a transfer feasible. But I get that Altee is already 3 semesters in, it may be that none of his credits will transfer, and we are not gonna take a guy who can't graduate by the end of his senior year.

On the other hand, if by some chance he could get even a semester's worth of work to transfer, which would mean, with careful planning and summer work, he should be able to graduate by May 2017, we should snag him. And again, we have to have a schollie for him, which we may not.

#UNLVFB dismisses running back Altee Tenpenny for breaking team rules. He had transferred from Alabama. #RJNow

What a waste of talent. Geez.

RBs from the state of Arkansas sure seem to know how to mess up - D. McFadden excluded.

For the record, Tenpenny was dismissed from Bama for failing a drug test, missing some classes, and missing some workouts. If he would have had his head on right, he would be in line to get a lot of touches this season at Bama. Oh well...

It's a damn shame. I loved his high school highlight tape. Too bad he couldn't keep it together.
