would love it if he said "sure if you must know, I'm all UCLA Mr Mora"...just to get him off his "ultimatum"...and then, when it mattered, signing the LOI, he signs with us.

ps when is the dead period for contacting recruits?

Started today, one reason why this may have more importance than in most circumstances.

Assume he is referencing Troy Aikman and Cade McNown. I may have went with Ogden.

Aikman was long gone before this kid starting paying attention to CFB. I imagine McNown was, too. Not sure how one grows up a UCLA football fan but maybe a relative turned him on to the Bruins.

Who the hell grows up a fan of UCLA football? I have more tradition in my pants than they have in their whole football history.

Most kids these days don't give a shit about tradition. All they see is warm weather, Los Angeles, and 9-10 win seasons the last 3 years.

Nobody goes to UCLA for football tradition. Can't forget the So Cal women either...

Kids believing in the weather is a joke when it comes to recruiting. What happens when a kid is good enough to go pro and gets drafted by Denver, New England, or Green Bay are they going to tell those teams to trade them because of the weather. If a kid can't handle weather they are a pansy.

That being said hopefully Aliz'e man's up and chooses the Irish, F Mora!!

easy to play in the climates you listed above when you are collecting a paycheck in the National Football League. Doesn't hurt that your cold weather sample size have Peyton, Rodgers, and Tim F'in Brady slinging it to you.

I get the point your trying to make, but no.

Let's hope if Aliz'e chooses the Irish he has a real QB (Malik) slinging it to him.

Yes, the cities I mentioned above have stud QB's but there is also Buffalo, Cleveland, and Minnesota.

Maybe he's telling Mora what he wants to hear just to keep him off his back?

The difference remaining that Jones reserves the right to play in a warm climate, receive his free education in the sunshine, plain and simple. The kid is certainly not a wuss if he defers to another school in a warmer climate.. shit these regions is Where the top flight football is at this level..hell mine as well stay warm while doing it...But Will that be a significant factor? Doubt it. Is it allowed to play a role in the decision making process without questioning the kids character? Absolutely. the next level isn't promised, and even if it is you don't get a say in where that city plays in relation to the equator..and if he's lucky enough to be drafted by a cold weather city NFL team he'll be smiling ear to ear.

I agree. I also think that kids don't mind playing in cold weather...they just don't like living in cold weather. Competing for the one or two good-looking girls on campus would kind of suck too.

I don't buy the idea that since you'd have to play in cold weather in the NFL, you should also want to (or at least not run from) playing in cold weather in college.

Just because you know you're going to have to get married one day doesn't mean you should start to live a sucky life when you're in young and/or in college just to get used to it.

Your point is well taken but I don't think people are saying players should want to play in the cold. They are simply saying what I bolded.

I don't know man, I was raised to believe that even admitting you were cold implied a lack of toughness. Maybe that's just my pops. But whenever anyone complains about cold weather I find it kind of whiny and annoying. I wish more prep football stars saw it that way, ha.

I think this sentiment has a deleterious effect on society and especially, men. When men are pressured to conform to a tough guy mentality, whether it be never acting cold, never admitting mistakes, never going to the doctor to check something out, it all ultimately ends in a man failing to further develop a mental connection with his body and surroundings.

There is nothing wrong with being irritated by whininess but some toughness is superficial.

But I hope Alize stops being such a bitch and comes to ND ;)

There's a difference between complaining about cold weather, and choosing to avoid it for four years though haha.

There is a mental connection; it's I'm in charge, you aren't (body, weather, etc.)! A lot has gotten accomplished with that attitude! But I will agree that those men were probably not as in touch with themselves and would strike any decent therapist as repressed.

IMO, the problem is that the Bend just really isn't THAT cold, especially during football season. It's about 3 degrees different, on average, than Ohio State You don't hear too much complaints about there. Its also a little warmer than Michigan.

The weather is only a big factor, IMO, because it has such a different feel than the big state schools.

The fall is absolutely beautiful most years. You don't play in December, and you are working out inside during January and February. Spring is too short, but summer gets milder faster.

Right, this is kind of how I feel about it. The weather sucks in South Bend compared to other places, but it's just not that big a deal. It certainly doesn't outweigh our many advantages. Maybe I'm repressed, but I wish more kids looked at it that way.

The only thing I don't miss about playing football is practicing in the cold. There was nothing worse than strapping it up and popping pads in the cold. Nobody, not even the toughest SOB around, likes the feeling of impact on a cold shoulder.

I'd rather my son say, "I feel pain but I choose to let it pass through me" than "It ain't cold".

So you are more like the good sensei from a Ninja cartoon, rather than the stubborn, violent pupil who ends up turning bad. Got it. :)

Whole bit is hilarious and he talks about why it's not okay for men to be openly sensitive. The very end, last 15 seconds or so, is directly about how men can't admit to being cold. Hilarious.
