70? I thought it was much lower than that. I thought we had lost close to 20 players at this point.

By my count, excluding injuries, busts who don't travel, suspensions and redshirts, we're down to 51 healthy scholarship players who could play against USC.

Still more than USC, but it's getting close.

I thought the same at first, but after counting, I'm not so sure anymore. I know the Trogans only dressed 55 for an away game earlier this season. Interim attrition may have dropped them below us, but both teams are limping into this game.

Bump...

I know there are a lot of other news out there that is truly more important that football but come on guys... THIS IS USC WEEK for Notre Dame. Set aside the problems in life for a while, unify as fans, and get behind your team. Geez.

That's unreal.

ND's two-deep has suddenly taken on a terrifying new meaning, because the Irish are literally two-deep across most of the roster. We've got 7 or so 3rd stringers available, but that's it. And 15/22 players on the defensive two-deep are underclassmen.

Yeah I saw where you had posted earlier in the week that they were down to something like 51 scholly players. That's unreal. But legends in rivarly games are made when they are least expected. So I am gonna predict Bryant returns a punt late deep in Trojan territory, Brindza runs on the field for the quick 35 yard FG with no timeouts, Malik gets a high snap down in time, and the ball hits the left upright before slowly falling in.

Oh boy, most being on defense. EG and company, if there is ever a time, Saturday is it.

I really hope we run the ball this game, and I don't mean EG out of the pocket. Line it up, give TF or GB the ball, and go face first.

To this point, I was talking with a co-worker the other day and he was in disbelief that we are essentially on our 4th string MLB. Grace, Schmidt, and Morgan. Some may not count Grace but its an unused scholarship and roster spot.

Grace likely would have been starting or would have been the back up had he recovered in a little more than a year.

He was just starting to play pretty darn good when he went down too, brutal.

It would be nice to have Moore, Ishaq and Russell play. Oh wait.

You could even make the case that Martini is 5th string if you include Moore.

Let's just beat USC on Saturday...then hopefully a bowl game gives us enough time to get some healthy.

But yes, pre-season "issues" was alright until FSU...has haunted since (combined with TOs). Now guys are falling off left and right...

We really need the offense to come through. The FG/PAT units would be an added bonus as well.

A win vs USC would ease some of my pain over the late season tumble. It's a winnable game if we limit TOs, make PATs and 35 Yd FGs, get a break or two, help D by sustaining drives and scoring TDs.

That's asking a lot but I agree. We are pretty banged up right now and pretty thin.

The loss of the academic casualties caught up with the team in more ways than imaginable. Oh, what might've been.......hopefully going forward it pays dividends with all the experience the youngsters have gotten. Hope they can hang in and steal one in LA.

I can see this game coming down to a last second field goal. I would puke if your scenario happened.

I hate USC ...

USC isn't even really a rival game any more. You always take 2 wins over 1.

HUH?????

Only the greatest and longest intersectional rivalry in CFB history.

It is called "The Game" for a reason. USC is ND's one true rival, period.

Correct this only rivalry game we have now that we have knocked Michigan and Michigan state off the schedule.

Not sure how old you are, but USC is THE rivalry game for ND. Michigan was a rivalry game, but doesn't have the history of the USC rivalry.

This.

Who else are our rivals right now? Stanford and Navy?

I know being 7-4 sucks all the life out of the season, but we've got to win this game. Can't let 7-win Sark beat us in year one.

Jacob Matuska and Daniel Cage starting on the inside. This is worse than a Weis led defense... Hope Everett can take advantage of their secondary.
