SI's College Football 2014 Midseason All-America Team - College Football - SI.com
SI has him as 2nd team AA right now.
SI has him as 2nd team AA right now.
Interesting... I thought only ESPN hated Notre Dame. I guess SI must, too.3/4 of the LBs on SI's 2nd team have been named Lott Impact Player of the Week twice. None of the LBs named to the 1st team has earned such a distinction even once.
Jaylon has been amazing, and I love his game. BUT let's all remember that he is a true Soph and has missed his share of tackles too. He will continue to improve and probably be borderline 1st team by year end. 2nd team is something to be incredibly proud of either way.
...The only thing that I wish he'd dump is his celebration even when we're getting creamed.
Spontaneity is one thing, choreography another.
Victor or vanquished, humility is appropriate.
"Creamed" or "uncreamed" is irrelevant.
My view of Jaylon is that we're getting about as much out of him as we can expect from a guy playing a relatively new role [and who is without his MLB "brother"].
I'm also getting the impression [easily wrong] that opponents are targeting away from him if they can. Morgan seems [ineffectively] to be the guy getting vaguely to the point-of-attack with Jaylon showing up later and Onwualu never [Farley is a bit better at arriving on the scene.]
I believe that it would be very hard for Jaylon to play like an All-American given the situation with his fellow linebackers. The only thing that I wish he'd dump is his celebration even when we're getting creamed.
3) Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith. I know defensive guys, realistically, can essentially only hope to get invited to NYC not to actually win it, but since we're talking darkhorses we'll mention Smith. The Irish should have their most talented team in a generation, and Smith is their best player. A few years ago Manti Te'o came in second for the Heisman and Smith (112 tackles, nine TFLs) is better than Te'o.
Mentioned by Bruce Feldman as a Heisman darkhorse. Feldman had some nice praise for the team in relation to Jaylon's description.

Jaylon strikes me as the kind that wants his degree. If he doesn't graduate early I expect him to be back in 2016. Probably a little wishful thinking involved but that's where I stand.
If he is on the 3 year graduation plan then I think he's gone after this year barring injury or some unforeseen circumstance.
If you're a 1st rounder, go. If an ND degree is important to you, you'll still get it
