I feel for all the kids, regardless. But Hardy is the one I feel for the most. We don't know all the details, but obviously he did the least wrong if any, and lost half a season. Very happy to have him back regardless of his depth chart projections.

He would have been contributing, and he may still be able to, but this situation (among other things) has altered his career enough at ND that he may never get enough meaningful minutes to make an impact and potentially make his way to the pros.

I don't think it's necessarily guaranteed that he did nothing. I think there might be no hold up bringing him back before the bye week if that was true. I'll withhold my judgment on ND

Obviously not intending to transfer or he would do better sitting out this year.

Man this is huge, with how thin we are at safety. Glad for him and even gladder for the team.

Just because he may practice doesn't mean he necessarily is going to play.

Sounds like he probably won't play and will be transferring after this semester (while practicing the next month and a half). I'm confused about this though

Yeah, that sounds weird. Kelly doesn't allow people who intend to transfer to practice.

Is he on pace to graduate after this semester?

I would guess the only two who would have been on pace for graduation after this Fall were Hardy and Ishaq. I'm just spitballing here, but maybe the school determined that Hardy had less involvement and could finish out the semester to graduate. He was never going to be asked back for a 5th year with the scholarship crunch, so maybe he's allowed to scout team it before transferring somewhere for a 5th year? Just a guess.

a rumour i read is that Hardy didn't actually cheat himself, he just had knowledge that the other 4 were cheating and didn't divulge this which is an honor code violation in itself. Any substance this this?

From what I heard from a good source. All the players got a 2 semester suspension, but had the option of when to take it. In the case of Hardy, he is close to graduating, so he chose to finish this semester in hopes of accomplishing that and then will look to transfer to play somewhere else for a fifth year by all accounts.

As for his role on the team, I think he will be basically running scout team and just getting/keeping himself in football shape. He gets to be around his friends and participate but wont play this season, pretty similar to the Josh Atkinson situation and both players are sticking around to get that degree but will play their 5th year somewhere else.

I could be wrong on his situation with the team, but that is what someone that would know more than I do informed me. So it might not be 100% accurate but pretty close.

Has Josh Atkinson not been suiting up for games this year? I hadn't even noticed.

If what TP says is fairly accurate, that says a lot about Williams. Could've finished out the semester, transfered to a program he was guaranteed a starting role, and auditioned for the NFL. An easier route. Instead. He'll sit not, come back, and hope to start and play to his potential. Not guaranteed anything.

i think his parents were pretty adament that he came back to ND and got his degree.

Hmm, very interesting.

Atkinson's situation is different from Hardy's though, because Atkinson HAS to sit this year to preserve eligibility for a 5th year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hardy redshirted his freshman year, so we can use him as an emergency safety if we have to without ruining his plans to transfer and play a 5th year elsewhere.

I think ishaqs situation may be different than Hardy's too. While they both were on track to graduate this year. It sounds like Ishaq might not have been able to squeeze all his remaining credits into one semester like Hardy.

That doesn't give Ishaq the "defer to second half" coin flip. If he wants to get his ND degree and play next year, his two semesters need to be the current and next. Be back for summer and season.
