Rome is easily one of my favorite cities in the world, and as others mentioned, Italy's train system (as long as you are taking the high speed trains, not the slower local ones) makes getting to other cities pretty easy.

This + getting to see a Roma game (didn't get to since it was out of season when I was there last) + getting to see my family in Milan = NO BRAINER. Guess I should start saving up now.

Funny story... I just got back from a 2 week vacation to Italy... and while I was there, there was actually a strike by train workers while we were over there and we almost got totally screwed trying to get from Lugano->Milan->Rome. The funny thing was that talking to other people on the train apparently strikes like this happen all the time and the trains are completely unreliable. Yes, this was on a "slower" one... and after we got on the high speed one in Milan it was no problem. But basically our train made it halfway to Milan and then they just shut it down because it was time to strike and we all had to scramble onto another train to a different Milan station.

Another funny anecdote is that when my fiance used to work in the Prime Minister's office in Rome her boss was an Italian guy who had graduated from BC. This game needs to happen... and the Pope needs to flip the coin for sure.

No way I would miss this game. Don't think I could pick a place that I would rather go to see ND play. Plus then I can yell "Roma Victor!" after every ND touchdown.

Oh yeah I've totally been screwed by the trains in Italy before as well. I was taking a train from Munich to Bologna and we literally crossed the border into Italy and the train "broke down". We had to get off, switch to some rickety old local Italian train that was already full, and change trains about 3 more times before we finally made it to Bologna. At that point we had missed our train from Bologna to Cinque Terre, and had to scramble to make alternative plans. Worst part was the original train we got on in Munich was really nice and my friend and I had a six person cabin to ourselves. Then it breaks down and we had to switch onto a hot, old, standing room only Italian train. So yeah, avoid the slower local trains like the plague if you can. I've always had good luck with the high speed Frecciarossa trains, which are really nice. And get you from Rome to Milan in right around 3 hours and Rome to Florence in an hour and a half, all while getting to see some beautiful Italian scenery!

This needs to happen!

Just apply a little pressure and play USC in the REAL Coliseum!

Flood it for the halftime show. Make the marching bands simultaneously play from ships and fight. I would like it. Would the Holy Father raise his thumb?

Do it to end the season against Navy. Do it during Championship week. Kickoff at 8:30 or 9:00 am like the Ireland game. Only way to make it work. Otherwise, that much travel is just too arduous during the season.

after we kick Fredos ass in this game i see Kelly entering Rome for his Triumph, wearing a toga, with the laurel wreath on his head; his entourage led by the prized stallions of Culver Acadamy.

Will Jack be the one whispering in Kelly's ear "remember thou art mortal".

Would love to see the Irish play in Rome and other major Catholic cities with major soccer clubs. Munich, Turin, Paris(this is my top choice for obvious reasons).

An interesting bump but welcome to the site. Are you British by birth or choice?

British not the exact term id use personally but Scottish of Irish descent ( like a lot in Glasgow) but now living in England although my passport says I'm British

Celtic park or paradise or holy ground as its sometimes called would a dream for SS but I can see the big attraction of Rome :)

This man knows... Celtic faithful surely wouldn't mind turning the keys to Fortress Parkhead over to the Irish for one game... The cultural component of a Notre Dame game in Paradise would be beyond epic.

Your one of the good guys acamp1900

ND at Celtic park woul be awesome but Irish in big demand and to be fair Rome would be epic, also Fenway a great should to host us - plenty of support there

Would be plenty of support for ND but not grey deal of understanding of grid iron football

Street vendors outside Celtic park sell ND f.irish scarves outside the ground and have done so since I was a kid.
