In your opinion (really asking), would being reasonable mean for Kelly or his handler to call him and say, "seriously, Jerry, what's your inclination here? We understand you want to check out the waterfront, but are you still in? Is you is or is you ain't my baby?" (He can leave off the last sentence.)

Completely reasonable. The ole "if you are still shopping, so are we" approach.

In a roundabout way, yes. You need to be in communication with all your commits. The staff should be finding out why he's looking around and should look to assuage those concerns. I'm sure they are.

While I hear what you are saying, my question is this. What is he holding a place for? He has all of the offers he could possibly want correct? Is he holding it only for the event he gets injured? I'll continue to whistle past the graveyard and look for him to be Irish on NSD.

1. Injury
2. We're the current leader so make sure you have a spot so the staff doesn't recruit over you. In Jerry's case it's unlikely that we would turn him away on NSD. But what if Heistand finds another OL that he likes and feels he can teach? We took Ruhland's commitment when, arguably, we had bigger fish we were looking at. If Jerry were uncommitted and ND was in the picture, we might find some other big time OL that could take his spot.

Just my thoughts.

I'm kind of hoping this exact conversation is had on a pretty regular basis.

I'd kind of be shocked if it isn't.
Kelly hasn't generally been the "love it or leave it" type when it comes to recruits with wandering eyes. And Tillery isn't a cornerstone of our class in the way, say, Blake Barnett was when he started looking around. But we've had push come to shove on this stuff before.
I've got to think we're either comfortable with what he's telling us (in which case, all's cool) or internally we've given up on him (in which case, why aren't we recruiting any other OLs?). I tend to think it's the former. But like I said, that changes if he starts looking more broadly than LSU.

Guess when you play the whopping D2 teams, you can take the friday off to go see a recruit

Malzahn has attended quite a few Friday night high school games regardless of the opponent he is playing on any given Saturday. Especially if he is in the general vicinity of where the recruit is. If you aren't ready for your game on Saturday by Friday evening, that's on you as a coach.

Saban does not usually attend high school games. I can only think of one time and that was to see claw boy JW play.

Doesnt matter. LSU (and Auburn) should be ashamed of themselves padding their schedules with cupcake teams like they do year in, year out to get the wins. Bad enough Auburn has to hire merc players and steal signals to win games. Doesnt make for a good coach. And Lord knows Lesticals Miles isnt worth a flip with all the talent he has every year.

Doesn't Les's kid play for same team? I'd expect him to be there Jerry or not.

Manny Miles plays at U-High in Baton Rouge. Shreveport is about 4 hours away.

You're probably thinking of Nick Brossette.

It also looks like a helicopter in the background with Les in his stupid purple track suit.

Had a blast, but Ole Miss reporter isn't optimistic about a flip. ND and LSU lead.

Wait so he is visiting schools besides LSU and ND? Did I miss this...

I don't consider him a commit at this point. If he signs here, great.

Yes, I believe he is taking OVs to other schools.

He talked about a Texas or a Texas A&M OV, but never Ole Miss.

Wonder if he is worried about PT. He has some decent athletes in front of him and knows that there are a lot of 5 star and 4 star Oliners coming next year. He is talented and all, but might shy away from an O-line focused school.

How does Lsu and Notre Dame both lead, is he not commited to Notre Dame? If there is one position we could stand to lose a commit i would think it would be Oline. I like Tillery but he is doing alot of looking around.

I'm sorry for the confusion. The Ole Miss report said they think LSU is the only threat to get him from ND. I was lazy and said LSU and ND lead.

I personally think he is just enjoying the whole scenario. Who wouldn't want to go to the Miss/Alabama Game? Maybe he goes and sees A&M and Auburn. So would I if I could. Just as a pure fan of football. Anyway, he is going about it the right way AFAIAC.

I normally roll my eyes when someone suggests that "ND will be just fine without [4:s: recruit who's wavering]", but that's truly the case here. No reason to get worked up about this anymore. We've got Kraemer in the fold, and Eichenberg in the wings.

If Jerry ends up signing his NLOI, great. If not, there are a line of 4 and 5:s: OTs chomping at the bit to play for Hiestand.

Yeah, he's going all over the place. Has said so since the beginning.

One could argue that it's getting to the point where if he was going to decommit he probably would have done so by now. It's getting kinda late in the game.
