Progress, recruiting visits coming full circle for P.B. Gardens' linebacker Coney - Sun Sentinel
He is talking to his parents about whether or not he should move his timeline up this month and commit. As if now he does not have any more officials scheduled. Have to think this bodes well for us.
Another great job by Alford to get this kid to even consider ND in sec country.
He is visiting UF this weekend so I don't think it is an indication that he is choosing ND. He is visiting his top two schools on back to back weekends so after this he should have a clear idea of what he wants.
Let me ask everyone on this thread one question:
Is Coney wanted badly because you believe he's a star at LB? He's a solid prospect? He's an SEC recruit? He's one of the very few LBs we have left to choose from?
I'm going to watch the highlights and reply later but I'm curious about everyone's position.

Personally I like that he has a nose for the football. His highlight tape shows a lot of throwing off blockers to get at the RB, taking good angles to get to the ball, and a lot of big thumping hits. I don't care where he is from or if he is one of the last LB on our board, you go after this kid because of his talent level. He is solid prospect at worst and almost certainly a solid contributor for a few years.

Thanks for the update. Sorry to ask, but did either of his parents make the trip?

Not sure but I believe Dad came with him this past summer. Parents are pro ND here.
As far as Hilliard vs. Coney is concerned as far as individual prospects I would be good with either one. They are both extremely talented. I probably would have been more comfortable with Hilliard just in regards to proximity to home. That being said, Hilliard didn't want in so give me Coney and Bilal to join up with Barajas and I will be extremely thrilled. All of these kids are good, give me the kids that want to be here and do something great at ND!
Yes dad made the trip this summer and was in Kelly's office apparently ready for Tevon to give his pledge to ND with the idea that he wouldn't take more visits. Since Tevon wasn't willing to do that (stop taking visits) he never committed.
Honest question: if Hilliard was playing HS football in Florida would he still be an elite 5* LB, or just another solid top-end 4*? I always feel like the high end Ohio kids get inflated a bit more because there isn't as much elite talent around them. A kid like Kolin Hill was barely on the radar in a deep state like Texas, but would probably be a top 15 LB had he been from the Midwest.

I would still want Hilliard most out of any LB recruits, he just looks like the real deal and would be a phenomenal player in our defense. It's a shame we didn't get him because I thought he was a great fit.
We may get another shot at him yet. This is shaping up to be a very disappointing season for the Buckeyes.
