My question about Rice and the NFL is this... Even if you just saw the first video, regardless of what happened in the elevator, Rice knocked her out. Was never in dispute! So just by seeing the brutality of it, its NOW an indefinite suspension?

I personally like Goodell as commissioner, he's the only thing preventing the league from televising from inside prison walls

If you think about it, he's everything we want the damn NCAA to be. Tough, effective, credible

That he spit on her before he got in the elevator, once in the elevator he spits on her again, proceeds to give her a quick left that finally elicits a response, and then he knocks her out and she smashes her face into the guard rail.

As apposed to the tale im sure they told Goodell about how she provoked him and had him pinned in the corner and he tried to make space and accidentally struck her.

That is if the league really didnt see the tape.

Maybe he will, but I'm not so sure. His inconsistency's on punishment is all over the board and "NOW" held a PC and cited quite a few instances similar to the Rice incident where the punishment levied was minor compared to lesser infractions.

Keep in mind he has publicly stated they had never seen the video and now there is proof they had.

The only way he would leave if 24 owners vote him out; just not gonna happen. Saw a Tweet that said if Selig survived PED, Stern survived Donaghy then Rog can survive this.

It is actually possible he didn't see the video. People would just rather openly mock and criticize because ratings.

That's not to say he screwed up the punishment to begin with but people want drama so they take the route currently being taken. He admitted weeks ago that he screwed up and has tried rectifying it.

Standby Greg Hardy and Ray McDonald.

What I've seen out in the Twitter world says that the story Rice told resembled self defense rather then the onslaught the video shows. Which, according to the CBA, allowed Goodell to re-punish Rice due to him lying without having been tried twice for the same crime.

I'm sorry for going off topic a little, I've tried to keep up on this thread but may have missed something. Obviously the 5 players are still suspended, is there any credible info as to the status of the investigation and the committee review?

Kelly said on Jim Rome yesterday that he heard there would be resolution, "soon."

How are there almost 6200 replies to this thread with now information? :(

They had better come up with a decision soon. In this sue happy world I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't go after them for damages if they keep a cleared kid out long enough. Being out long enough will be hurting their NFL prospects.

I believe he's made a similar statement a couple of other times. He is obviously not being told much, or his idea of soon is within the next calendar year!

If he didn't see it, he willfully chose not to. I'm not sure which is worse.

Even if he somehow didn't know someone had sent a copy to the NFL, every inch of public space in every casino in America is on video 24/7. They must've known the casino had videotape. And don't give me this BS about it being illegal to ask for a copy. The criminal investigation was long over. And even if it wasn't, the casino could have easily provided a copy. If Goodell wanted to see the thing, he would have before now.

Somewhere in this tangent, there is a delicate thread back to the investigation of academic misconduct by several Notre Dame football players. I can't quite articulate it but have a feeling it runs through Goodell's mantra to "protect the shield" above all else. But in Notre Dame's case, I actually think academic integrity is a shield worth fighting for. I'm not so sure I feel that way about the NFL's brand and public image at this point.

From what I heard, a police official had sent the video to the NFL, then followed up with a call to verify that they had it. The "female" then called the police offical back and apparently got his voice mail and left the message that "they had received it and it wasn't pretty".

If I was the one at the NFL that had received the video, I would make sure it started up the food chain immediately. If Goodell doesn't get "taken out" (queue Tony Soprano pics), you know someone will be made the scapegoat to try and save face.

The indefinite suspension is not because the NFL suddenly saw the video, the indefinite suspension is because you and I (and the whole world) has seen the video.

I'd say this is getting ridiculous, but it was ridiculous a week ago. Someone call the ticket guy and get the scoop.

It is now an indefinite suspension because there is now no doubt about whether or not there were extenuating circumstances around him knocking her out. For instance, we now know that Ray Rice was not simply acting reflexively to a punch thrown by his fiance'. I'm not saying that that was ever alleged, but it certainly would have made a BIG difference, in a lot of people's minds, if she had punched him first and he just kind of instinctually punched her back. But we now know that that did NOT happen. In fact, nothing like that happened. So, yes, now it becomes a clearer picture of just flat out abuse.

^This is my best guess as well.

As hands-on and meticulous as Goodell is, I have a hard time believing that he didn't see the video.

Another day, another few pages of off-topic posts. [sigh]

DD is NOT posting anything on twitter at all about his suspension. Does anyone here really think that these five kids haven't been put on notice by the university and the coaching staff to keep their mouths shut about it? If DD tweets, the default assumption among readers should be that it's NOT related to the suspension.

North Carolina? For Crissakes...people are delusional.
