The solo tackle was a great play. 3rd and 11. He was lined up on the right side of the formation. The QB scrambled up the middle and looked like a good shot at a first down. He reacted quickly and covered a lot of ground in a short time for the sure tackle.

Exactly, and he looked like a non-Freshman, fast linebacker sized player, doing it!

Why not? Stars not high enough for you? I don't know if you realized but Drue was said to never see the field beyond special teams. He has played defense as a true freshman. Injuries is the reason? May be but he was in position as a true freshman to be "Next man in"

I don't know much on his brother but I curious why we would NOT offer him. Clue me in, please! (Not meaning to be a dick either)

ACL doesn't bother me. Is he not a legit 5'!! and 190? I guess what I am saying is, do you really think he is not better than a walk on? BK can look at him as a person to take a walk on scholly. IMO, if we offer a walk on scholarship next year and he (Justin) is in the 2 deep at Purdue, we failed. Again, just my opinion. His brother was met with a lot of criticism, and just played as a true freshman. If Justin can ball in 2/3 years, worth it!

You need to explain why Justin is better than any other 3 star player without an ND offer. Just because he's Drue's brother isn't a logical answer for offering him.

I am quite sure he could come to ND as a preferred walk-on right now and would know he could earn a scholarship within 2 years.

But that's a hard choice to make for most when comparing it to a full ride from other schools like Indiana or Purdue who are actually actively recruiting you and want to make you a centerpiece of their recruiting class.

I'll admit it, I was surprised by and pleased with his play. The kid stepped up and played outstanding. A number of times I had to check the number of who made the play cause he was playing like a Jr.

If he can come and earn a scholarship why not just offer him? I feel he is a good enough athlete that he would see time immediately in special teams. For those that don't think that warrants a scholarship, go back and look at how we fall short every year in our 85. BK, again IMO, has a plan to offer scholly to walk on's which I think is great. However, I think Justin can be, not only an added improvement to this team in small manners, but he can be worth the scholly than some walk on that may benefit from us not offering his "type".

Also, so what if Purdue make him a center piece. If he is a big target for Purdue, I would think he could benefit ND in some fashion. As far as being Drue's brother... Again, Drue was said to be a "no body" when he was recruited. He changed that in week 1. Gene's do matter and Justin has shown to be pretty solid from the athlete standpoint.

NOTE: I fully respect the walk on that earn schollys. Do not want to take anything from them. We all know that they will be the first to lose an opportunity if we can just offer a player off the bat.

Wait a minute! This kid went from being non-corporal to second team at ND, ranging from 6'1.5" to 6'3" and 205 to 225 lbs.? Amazing! What was he a wood nymph? No wonder he only had three stars!

On a more serious note, remember his video's from this summer? Many rightly mentioned that he looked lost or out of synch, etc., and rightly so? Perfect example of how those 30 second clips will do you wrong, every time!

Notre Dame doesnt need a Cornerback, Slot, or Safety at this point. Taking a kid that would be a project and is coming off an ACL injury is not ideal. Josh Adams tore his ACL last year, but will get this fall to prove he is back. Justin Tranquill will not get a season to show he has recovered from injury.

Personally, I would have no problem taking him and he would more than likely be a great addition to the program. But its a numbers game for kids like Justin and Notre Dame doesnt have room at the positions he plays.

I think all of the reasons you stated are a good start to explaining why we shouldn't offer Drue's brother. Drue is the exception and most people really liked the offer, they thought he might grow into a linebacker and many thought his floor was a good special teams player. Drue was still well-regarded and the people working with him, raved about his athleticism and work ethic.

I wouldn't offer his younger brother because we've already given out that offer: Nico Fertitta. There is our smaller, less-heralded player. We need to continue filling our roster with playmakers.

Our best evidence why we shouldn't offer: Because Kelly and staff haven't. I trust them above all so if they were to give an offer today, I'd recant and say I trust the staff because they've been exceptional in identifying talent.

I'd rather we take anothe 2-3 dlinemen than another undersized player but I could be in the minority.

Drue is a bit famous with the teen girls these days, over 9k RTs and 22k Favs.. By the way, if you didn't KNOW, now you KNOW

It's guys like Drue that prove why our coaches do the recruiting and not the guys on this message board. When he committed he was criticized eight ways from Sunday.

I love the athleticism he brings and he's only going to get better. Three games into his true freshman year and he looks every bit the stud on the field that he apparently is off.

yup definitely he's walking proof too that people need to trust the staff on guys like Nico and Coleman

I dont think that's totally accurate. Many of the brightest football minds on here were excited for Tranquill's flip. He was a 4 :s: on some services with undeniable athleticism and instincts.

I think just about everyone is pumped for Coleman.
