I'm with you Lax, I'm more excited for the pumpkin beer I'm going to be drinking during the game than the game itself. I'm actually dreading going to the UNC game later this season, but I'm sure I'll get hyped for it as the game draws closer.

Why the hell are pumpkin beers coming out so early? It's August people.

Where am I? What's going on here? Did I stumble into a Vanderbilt football forum?

I am so confused.

WHAT??

This team could be 0-11 and I would be jacked to see them live.

Yeah... so....

What the hell is this?

You like pumpkin beer and you're 'dreading' going to a game?

Alright. Turn in your badge and gun at the sergeant's desk.

Can we have a worst post of the year category this year? This should be the only entry.

I am excited because this is such a mysterious year. So many variables and unknowns. So many tough opponents. Even if we are not a championship team this year (which I think we are setup to be next year assuming BK stays and no major transfers) we could play spoiler to the likes of Michigan, USC, Stanford, ASU, Northwestern, and FSU.

It ain't gonna be pretty. It ain't gonna be easy. But it's gonna be football.

I am absolutely excited... as excited as if it were the late 80's - early 90's all over again. All of this peripheral noise becomes meaningless when a few hours before the game, I assemble with like minded folk dressed in Green, Blue and Gold to share all that ND means to one another. I was like that in years with losing seasons too.

I guess we older fans may have more memories as the Irish have won 5 National Championships in my lifetime... yes, I count '93... and those come to mind every time the Irish run out of the tunnel.

But what I am most excited for??? Watching a young team mature and improve and get through this year with double digit wins.... which leads to next year and a better team with a legit shot at a National Title....which leads to '16 where The Irish will be the best team in the country, even if Jaylon Smith doesn't stay for his Sr. year. Our Offensive Line play is going to be historic over the next 5 years. We may have found a handful of Justin Tucks at DE this last cycle. I really think the pieces are here. Haven't felt that way since the 90's.

Go Irish! Is it 10:30am PST on Saturday yet????

*10:30am is two hours before kick off and that means PUMPKIN BEER in Orange County!

I'm as jacked up as I am every year... Probably more!

Does the whole investigation thing bum me out? Sure, but that's out of my hands, and certainly out of the hands of the young men who will wear those golden helmets and charge out onto the field on Saturday, willing to fight, sacrifice for one another and utilize every bit of their ridiculous athleticism to claim victory for the university I have loved since the age of 5!

At 3:30 on Saturday, I can't magically conjure up KVR into his lock-down position at the corner, but I will literally come out of my seat when Everett Goson - who refused to take the easy way out and returned to finish what he started - stands at the line of scrimmage, surveys what needs to be done and takes the first steps towards his own redemption and, much like he did against Pitt in 2012, puts the entire ND nation on his back and says, "Let's go!"

When Sheldon Day's brutal physicality embarrasses an opposing lineman, I'll jump up again!

When Jaylon Smith runs completely across the field, hurdles a would be blocker and forces a fumble with a play that humans aren't supposed to be able to make, I'll scream some more!

As the game progresses, and the full splendor of HD TV clearly reveals the helpless look of impending doom on a cornerback's face as he lines up to try and somehow contain the near world-class speed of Chris Brown once again - after already having been repeatedly burned - I will smile and get that satisfied feeling inside that comes from knowing my guy can whip your guy's ass!

I could go on and on, but suffice to say, you bet your ass I'm pumped!

And asterisks be damned, "Fuck Michigan!!!"

I think the timing of recent events has a lot to do with it. If this mess was settled a few months back I think we would have all had a chance to digest it and get over it.

I'm super pumped for Saturday.

If you're lucky enough to be an Irish fan, you're lucky enough.

Just my $.02, but playing spoiler to Northwestern should NEVER be a goal for a season. C'mon man, WE ARE ND. Other teams should only ever want to play spoiler for US, not the other way around!

The beginning of this season definitely has different feel to it with the academic investigation being on-going as the season starts.

I'm excited for football in general but this investigation has put a big stain on the beginning of ND's season. I just hope the players aren't mentally dragged down like we are.

Beat up Rice and things feel better. Slap around Michigan and all will be right in the world once again. Just win.

Some of you should go shopping for panties instead of watching the game.

I guess being a fan is a little different for everyone. I don't follow recruiting very much. It's great when we get a really good player, but honestly I'll root for whoever takes the field for us.

This current bullshit is a distraction, but meanwhile we have a team getting ready to take the field on Saturday. Those kids have been working their butts off to get to Saturday and I'm gonna be rooting my ass off for them.

With Notre Dame football it seems like there is always SOMETHING causing drama but for me....We have good years and good years, some years we even win.

Trying to type fast because I have meeting, hopefully whatever I just typed makes sense.

Go Irish Go!

I think people are conflating being bummed about "Rumored Violations" and their excitement for kickoff.

Just wait till Friday night when you realize that we play tomorrow.

You can all look back at on this thread and laugh with me.

There is a lot that I am excited about - too much to list.

The one thing that has me the most amped is the Golson story line: kicked out of school, never even entertaining going somewhere else, being reinstated by the university, and is now back where he belongs as the starting QB for ND!

I am really excited for that young man.

You're too close to it, my friend.

I understand the high, but for me,

I try to let the game take me back

to a simpler time.

The actual game is still interesting.

All the rest is out of my control.

Enjoy whatever is left before it all burns.

F-ing football haiku? What kind of sh!t is that?

When did half this board grow a vag?

That's not a haiku. If you want a haiku, here's one that Koon would write:

Fall leaves are changing,
Greg Bryant's abs are exposed,
I'll be in my bunk.

I've been getting excited about seasons with way less excitement than this one for two decades. You would think Ty was leading a squad of two star recruits onto the field.

SACK UP BOYS

Love this. Great point. I was excited when I was rooting for Ty's teams and I'm no less excited now.
