Was in Maison Bleu? Be honest!
To answer the question posed in the title of the thread: I don't tend to mind the occasional use of swearing and the occurrence of swearing (via working around the filter) was generally reasonable before I dropped the filter a few months back (which is why I decided to drop the filter). Since dropping the filter, though, the swearing has become gratuitous in a way that has disrupted otherwise thoughtful discussion; several members have made note of this and I tend to agree with them.
There are plenty of places out there where you can have at it, but there's a minimum level of respect and courtesy that we want to maintain here and until we find a better way of ensuring that bare minimum is met, the filter is going to filter out a few words.
Love the thread title though. What a thoughtful, apt comparison.
Don't see why a few complaints should cause the entire site to be censored. Why not vote on it?

It almost definitely was.
That ****ing cock-a-roach
Everyone start complaining about the lack of titties on this board.

The "few complaints" were not determining. The filter was put back in place because of a long-standing policy about the minimum level of courtesy and discourse we want on this site and because that minimum level was not met by the gratuitous level of swearing we've seen over the last few months. As I said above, until we figure out a better way to maintain what I think is a pretty basic level of civility, the filter is going to stay in place.
Also, certain, and most, aspects of the way the board is run is not determined by vote. I'm happy to hear arguments for whether unimpeded swearing adds value to the board, but it's a discussion we've had here before and this is the policy that has come out of those discussions.
There are, I am sure, many ND football boards out there that are a little less moderated and you are free to check those out to see of that environment works better for you. That said, I believe Irish Envy is among the best free boards because of the intelligent and most-of-the-time thoughtful discussions we have here.
That ***scallion!
Edit: oh now this is ridiculous

From here on out i will use the term "sexual intercourse" to maintain the decency of the board!
I think that "Sanctioned relations within the confines of marriage with procreation as the only goal" would be more appropriate.
Or "apt," as the case dictates.

Who believes that should be the only goal? Some type of sadist?
Your mom's name is Michigan?
Ahhh... The cursing debate has reared its ugly head once again. When the board was started, Svoboda wanted it one way and we followed it. When Svo sold the site, Phammer just picking up where he left off in the same image. I don't have a problem with it. I know I cuss, (A LOT) but I get what is going on here. Dshans (Dick), myself and many, many others had discussions about this.....which let to bannings, hard feeling by some and it turned into a poo storm. I get it. It's a freedom of speech thing, however, there are families of the players that read this forum. This place is that good. There are little kids that read this site because the University of Notre Dame is where they want to further their academic/athletic endeavors. I guess what I'm saying is that it needs to be equitable for everyone involved. If you feel the need to cuss on the board, it will be moderated via asterisks... I don't think it's that big of a deal. Everyone with half of a brain knows what you're getting at. We have bigger fish to fry here gentlemen..... Rice in 4 days is by far more important than any of this. Go Irish!!!
