I was in BB Kings in Memphis in '05 and the man himself came in and played for two hours. It was a Wednesday and unannounced. Amazing experience.

I've seen a lot of concerts, some of my faves have been Phish, String Cheese Incident, Jack Johnson and Citizen Cope.

The best show I've ever seen live was Pretty Lights at the Sokol Auditorium Underground in Omaha in 2010. One of the most mindblowing events I've ever attended...

There was also my favorite band, Smashing Pumpkins at PinkPop 94.

Pumpkins are my sons favorite band. So much so that I have a grandson named Corgan.

Saw Black Oak Arkansas in a bar for $5 about ten years ago. They sounded as good as they did back in their heyday. Best bag for the buck ever.

Saw the Eagles two years ago. Best concert ever. Came out on time and just played. No bullshit or smoke and mirrors, just played for three hours.

I've seen Satana twice, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Chicago, Grand Funk Railroad, Guess Who and Doobie Brothers. Those stand out from all I've seen.

All of them were great in their heyday! Santana was and is great. Only other artist I have seen that has stayed as on top of his game is Steve Winwood.

Best little concert I saw, speaking special experience, wasn't at a big fancy venue. It was in Toledo at the worst concert location ever. The old sports arena. It was Eric Clapton, circa 461 Ocean Boulevard. This was an arena packed with middle class long haired white kids. And who walks on stage to open? An old black Mississippi blues man, with a guitar, and harmonica. The confusion of these kids was palpable. By the third song BB had them in the palm of his hands. Kids were dancing in the isles. One of the few concerts I ever saw where the crowd kept it up forcing multiple encores for the opening act. And Clapton was so inspired he ran the concert over and brought BB back out to jam. Was really cool.

Also saw Uriah Heap, Who, Tull and a bunch of others. Man was I a freak!

Not much of a fan, but around 1985 I saw Queensryche on their "The Warning" tour when they opened for Kiss. They were impressive musicians.... can't say the same for Paul and Gene.

Mellencamp put on a good show as well back in the day. My favorite though had to be Tesla. Just a blue jeans rock and roll band that seemed to enjoy what they did in the midst of all that 80's decadence.

Led Zep in Indy....only concert I saw that there was no back-up band.

Zep was unique in that regard. After their first tour as headliners in the late 60's, they decided they didn't need an opening act and would just put on a longer show all by themselves.

Best show I ever attended was the Stones in '89 at Legion Field in Birmingham with Living Color opening for them. A close second was Skynyrd at an all-day outdoor show in '75 (my first concert).

Kiss in '76 was something to behold! As several friends & I were trying to make our way out of the arena after the Kiss show, I reached around one of my friends and pinched the butt of a girl standing in front of him. She turned and glared at him. When she turned back, I did it again and she wheeled around and slapped the crap out of him. To this day he still has no idea why. :)

You saw Kiss in '76! Awesome.

Some great ones were
Triumph and Foghat in the Joyce ACC -Never Surrender Tour
Rush at JACC -Moving Pictures Tour
Van Halen in Jacksonville Colliseum (1st date on tour) -1984 Tour
Jackson 5 Victory Tour in the Gator Bowl
Pearl Jam at Tipitinas in New Orleans- Ten Tour
U2 in Chicago -Elevation Tour

Plenty other good ones like Sade, great show, great company, great night. Neville Brothers, and Kermit Ruffins are always good. The Fray was great. Love live shows.

I have caught the Meters at Tipitinas several times (George Porter Jr. Is the man!!!) lthough the Maple Leaf is still one of my favorite small venues.

Probay my best concert was the Lollapalooza1993 show with RATM, Tool, front 242, Arrested Development, Fishbone, Alice in Chains, and Primus.

Also caught Primus open up for Rush....dear Lord.

Jimmy Buffet at the Floribama....lol...I was totally a pirate that night (making off with booty and such).

I love music.

I think we've talked about this before, CrackyMalacky, but my 8 or 9 Jazz Fests in NOLA have been my best and favorite "concerts" of all time. The magnitude and span of musical styles available on so many stages over the course of a weekend is phenomenal.

Then there are the apres fest venues such as Tipitina's that are overwhelming. And exhausting. New York may be The City That Never Sleeps, but New Orleans is The City That Never Stops Rollin'.

Agreed. Jazzfest is absurdly wonderful, diverse, and rich. One of my favorite musical experiences was actually Mardi Gras. My buddies lived in garden district along the parade route and also operated a business at Lee's Circle. We made loops everyday from there to the warehouse district to waterfront and into the quarter and back to the garden district. Non-stop music and drink. Fantastic. In fact Harry Connick Jr. made an album called "Star Turtle" which kind of sums up my experience very well. Damn that is a fantastic city.

I have been to hundreds upon hundreds of shows, Thanks Jughead for hooking it with some bootlegs btw... But last night I saw Arcade Fire for the first time, way overdue. Long story short everytime they came to Chicago I was either out of town, or it was on Easter.. So I have been dying to see them.. They played at the United Center last night, and if you remotely like live music, add them to your future list of shows. Some of my top 10 shows would be Pearl Jam 95 at Soldier Field, U2 Soldier Field, White Stripes 05 at Auditorium Theatre, Jack White first row Auditorium, Beastie Boys Gala Event at the Riveria (
only played 4 of these shows played their instruments whole show, then did the classic weave and rapped the whole encore.. Was unreal) Wilco 3rd row Vic Theatre many phish shows list goes on..

Anyways I can say that this show last night at the UC is without a doubt in my top 10.. However they get 13 people to put out that kind of sound and keep that kind of timing is unreal. They engage the crowd, and put out so much energy you can't help but feel great after the show... Go see them when they come to your town ASAP!

I saw 5 of the first 6 years of Lolapalooza (skipped '95's weak line up) ... all great, all top 10.

This covers Pearl Jam, my favorite band.. seen em 30 times. Soundgarden, AAC, ROTM, Jane's Addiction, Pumpkins... all the typical early 90's good stuff.

Went to Woodstock in '94... Glad I did but it was a hassle... a huge volume of great acts but after seeing how Lolapalooza crams it into one day... and you get to go home and shower.... The greatness of Woodstock 2.0 wasn't nearly as great. Still top 10 obviously just on line up alone.

Grant Lee Buffalo - Part West - '98 ... Grant Lee Phillips (solo) at Schubas often Love me some Grant Lee.

Ben Harper - Double Door -'93. My Buddy's girlfriend's cousin...(I know I know) was Ben's Chicago "girlfriend" and we would hang with him when he was in town. He's one of the acts I always see when he comes through town.

Prince - Purple Rain - '85 - Cincinnati Riverfront Coliseum. Probably the most awesome spectacle I've seen... It was part Led Zepplin, part James Brown and part Cirque du Soleil.
Went with Ron Harper and a host of hotties from Miami. WILD night.

Jeff Buckley - Metro - '95. Greatest musician every. Period. Not my opinion but a scientific and spiritual fact. His album Grace is the high point of human civilization. Currently plays in heaven as Bach and Beethovan watch slackjawed in amazement. RIP JB.

Tool Auditorium theatre 7th row.. I couldn't hear for 4 days without ringing in my ears.. Love it.

Are you talking about the '05/'06 show.... that just missed my cut off at 11 or 12. It was like having a couple of Peavy's strapped to your head like headphones. Maynard has no business playing in a place with that type of acoustics.

Most incredible musical feats I've seen...

2 come from a concert that didn't make my top 10...

1. Steve Howe playing Roundabout... He did a 5 minute solo to start the song which if you know the song... has one of the greatest intro's in rock history. This was at an Asia reunion concert. Probably the only thing that would beat that for me would be seeing Water's do the solo from Comfortably Numb.

2. Same show.... Carl Palmer's 10 minute drum solo. I know Neal Pert is the greatest yada yada yada.... but it was completely awesome. Started off like a jazzy Buddy Rich and evolved into more than I've seen ANY drummer do... (never seen Rush live).... and CP was in his 60's at the time. Dude's ripped.

But the top moment by a LOOOOOOOOOOONG shot:

Went to the U2 Achtung Baby show at Cyclone Stadium in Ames Iowa - '91 or '92 without looking. I'm sitting there with 90,000 other people all whom are talking away waiting for the opening act. A little light comes on and you hear a small cheer but basically everyone is still talking and ignoring the guy.... and then his thumb starts hitting the strings... and in 10 seconds 90,000 frat boys and sorority girls went from Chatty Cathy's to silent zombies watching as Les Claypool unleashed the Devil's wrath upon Ames. I kid you not.... it was like Michael Jordan talking to 4th graders in Chicago circa 1996. Not a ****ing peep from anyone. As soon as he stopped 5 minutes later... the collective exhale created an actual wind.

When Metallica said in their documentary that Les was TOO good to be in their band... they were being honest. He is not of this world.

I am not too familiar with Beck but bought tickets for my boyfriend for his birthday as a surprise and went with him and thought he put on a, surprisingly, good show. Sean Lennon (John Lennon's son) and his band were the opening act, Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, and they were also really good.

My personal favorite is Flight of the Conchords. I've seen and met them several times...

Finally broke the concert cherry and went to see Red Hot Chili Peppers at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. To say it was amazing would be an understatement, I know I currently have nothing to compare it to but it was awesome!

Congrats!

I've only been to a couple, but I've been fortunate to go to some really good ones and each has surpassed my expectations and blown my mind.

The problem I have with the RHCP is they don't play any songs from their earliest albums. Everything is Blood Sugar Sex Magic and after. I hate to use the term "sellout," but that's pretty much exactly what it is. They don't play Knock Me Down, Fight Like a Brave, Taste the Pain, etc. They pretty much just ignore their first four albums. They are a great live band though.

I mean, their overall style changed and they're just not exactly that band anymore.

Like I said, they're sellouts. Doesn't mean I don't like the music, but it is what it is.

I also like their later work even though they sound like a different band. I just don't like that they ignore everything from their first four albums. If that makes me "that guy" then so be it.
