When it comes to westcoast IPA's... drink the IPA everyone in Escondido drinks (home of Stone Brewery)...

Hate to say I'm not cool but I prefer this over all of them except Dreadnaught. Way to common to be cool, won't impress anybody in the know but I can drink it all day.

.

I love Sculpin but it is not as readily available as Stone IPA which is pretty much everywhere (I actually love Green Flash West Coast IPA as well).

You aren't kidding about availability... We walked into Smashburger and there stood 5 different Stone's on the counter. I thought... kinda cool, kinda Fonzie jumping the shark.

Stone doesn't wanna be that cool little hipster brewery, they wanna be pass Sam Adams and to me, they have the product and the story to do so. Of all the big craft brew companies, only Bell's is in the same company IMO. Boston, New Belgium and Sierra Nevada are b.o.r.i.n.g. Deschutes and Lagunitas are ones to watch for continued growth, I love Mirror Pond APA and Lagunitas IPA's

Now, if 3 Floyds ever decides to go for it, they are the real game changer.... them and the darkhorse, Hangar 24.

Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier

Don't understand the appeal of filtered weizens.

"I'd like to sacrifice some taste in favor of aesthetic appeal, please!"

"Sir... you do realize this is a beverage, correct? Intended for consumption. Why would you want to sacrifice taste for looks?"

"Because reasons."

It's Weihenstephaner, so it's still delicious. But why does such a style exist in the first place?

Off the top of my head, I'd say it's the German beers trying to stay competitive. One of the beer reps I work with says his German portfolio is flat to negative growth. Craft beer is where everyone wants to be so the German brews are probably doing what they can to re-capture some market share.

The style has been around for several decades, at least. But you're right that the domestic German beer industry has been in decline for some time now. Big breweries like Weihenstephaner have been able to ride it out by aggressively exporting, but the smaller breweries are shutting down left and right.

Makes me sad, because a beer tour of Belgium and Germany is one of the few items on my bucket list. Since young Germans are drinking vodka instead of beer these days (travesty), my options when I finally get back to the motherland will be much more limited than they would have been 10-15 years ago.

Going to copy this onto mine. I don't know how it wasn't already on my list. Total failure on my part.

They are in the process of a major expansion, and are even adding a distillery. Increase in production usually results in an increase in distribution, so maybe you will have it there within the next few years. I'm cool with them going mainstream as long as the quality doesn't take a hit.

Fingers crossed .

I've heard great things about 3 Floyds, and had no idea how widely available it is in my area of Kentucky.

A friend got me a bomber of Man-o-Awe for my birthday, had no idea until earlier when I looked it up that it was 3 Floyds. Didn't pay much attention to the label while I was consuming lol.

Now I'm gonna have to hit a few local bars at some point to try some Alpha King, Gumballhead and Dreadnaught.

Buddy's Green Irish Stout
It's a smokey lite flavor.
Be careful if you ever try it. After a few, it kind of creeps up on you.
