we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think he sucks at all. He looked great in that Army game and by all accounts (Rivals, Scout, 247) he was one of the top overall performers for the week of practice and the best RB there during the week.
Last season he came into Michigan over-weight and on top of that got injured early in fall camp and had to sit out which put him behind even more. The OL was atrocious last year, and I don't think any of our RB's looked good running behind that line.
From what I've heard, Green struggles in pass protecting, catching the ball, and he's struggled picking up the new playbook. I don't think this means he sucks, he's still a young player (true sophomore) and some guys just take longer to develop than others.
Green has put in the work to drop weight and get in shape this off-season, and that will only help him down the line. He's not out of the RB competition by any stretch. They won't have a starter until 3-4 games into the year at the earliest IMO. They'll let all 3 of those guys have a chance and whoever separates on the field in the games will get the nod. If the OL doesn't improve drastically though, it really won't matter who gets the nod to be the starter.
re: Ty Isaac, I'm pretty sure he isn't getting his waiver and will redshirt. Which honestly would be the best thing anyways. I don't think they want to have four backs in the same class (Isaac, Smith, Green, and Johnson).
Guys who are one-trick ponies fail when that trick stops working... guys like Nick Brosette and Elijah Hood and such I think are far superior prospects because they are natural runners who know instinctively how to make the moves they need to make.
To the bolded, per people who coached against him "He has good straight line speed and is extremely powerful. He can run over virtually any tackler 1v1. He won't be able to do that at the next level and I don't see why anyone thinks that he projects as an elite college or pro prospect."
Again, I thought it was sour grapes at the time. If he doesn't break through at all this season, I'm going to start to believe that it was just 100% accurate. Derrick Green was without a doubt the most overrated prospect two year ago. That is not sour grapes at all. It was the Mike Farrell hype machine.
Jabrill Peppers on the other hand, will be the best player in the Big Ten whenever he wants to be. I think he will be special. I am jelly about him, completely jelly
I thought Green lived up to his hype in the Army bowl against other top prep talent. Rivals wasn't the only site to rank him high, Scout also had him as a 5* and the #1 RB. ESPN had him in the top 40 players, 247 had him in the top 100, both had him in the top 5-6 RB's in the country. So I don't think it was merely the Mike Farrell hype machine.
Was he overrated? Only time will tell. He didn't start off his freshman year on a good note, that much is for sure. I'm not saying one way or the other, all I'm saying is it's probably still way too early to make that judgement call.
I really do think DeVeon Smith may wind up being the better back though. He just seems to be a more complete, all-around RB. Something very Mike Hart-ish about his game IMO.

Jabrill Peppers, DB, Michigan
For readers who keep tabs on the hyperbolic world of college football recruiting, Peppers needs no introduction, but he could certainly benefit from a reset. Far from being the dynamic, instant-impact star the hype led Michigan fans to expect,4 Peppers spent most of his freshman campaign on ice, nursing a vague leg injury and venting his frustration as the Brady Hoke era in Ann Arbor lurched to a depressing close. In keeping with the seasonal theme, this spring marks a fresh start: A new coach is in charge, Peppers’s freshman eligibility has been restored, and expectations for a healthy Peppers are well on their way to matching 2014 levels.

Heard a rumor that he punched a window and he hurt his hand and might be out for the citrus bowl

Interesting position for him. Aziz Haverford you have any thoughts you want to share?
Jabrill Peppers settling in at linebacker
Seems like he would be too small to play the SAM. Would think he would play CB or S to help his draft stock for next year.

Tweeted out that he ran a 4.34 yesterday. Who knows if that's hand-timed or FAT, or if it's even real at all, but if so that's really flying for a guy his size who's going to be a hybrid S/LB this year.
he's a burner, for sure. Not quite the 6'1 he's listed at, maybe more like a tick under 6'0, but he's built rock solid at least 210 lbs. and yeah the kid can fucking fly and he's agile with the ball in his hands. Can cut on a dime and give you change. He's hands down the best RB on the entire Michigan roster. Seriously. It's a bunch of pedestrian at the RB position. Team needs a dynamic RB badly, hasn't had one since Mike Hart back in forever ago. And the crazy thing is he's the best RB but he plays DB/LB hybrid position lol.

Trade you Peppers for two of our loaded backfield of backs. Folston and Brent sound good?
