My wife & I watched Monument Men and Django Unchained this week. Monument Men was a nice story, but never really took off. Django was great though. I'm impressed with JF's acting, but still can't help thinking of Wanda every time I see him. How do you go from "I was gon' rock your world" to "I'd like to thank the Academy..."?

"North Dallas Forty." For those that don't know, it's based on a book of the same name written by a guy who was a WR for the Cowboys in the mid to late 60s. The book is fictional, but it's pretty easy to figure out who's who. The swaggering QB is supposed to be "Dandy" Don Meredith and the hard ass coach is Tom Landry. It's a good movie, telling the behind the scenes story of pro football, warts and all.

finally saw "42"--awesome flick. Chadwick is the man. a new force and i can't wait for "get on up". harrison ford is stellar, but there is no news here.

went and saw "boyhood". i'm still slightly stymied by it. at certain points it was like looking in the mirror, looking back in time. in some cases the story seemed jumbled, like they were just putting together improved scenes over the years. and in some moments the scenes were beautifully crafted and meaningful. Ethan hawk is fantastic. patricia arquette, meh. the rest of the young cast, pretty hit and miss. especially director richard linklaters daughter. more painful than coppolas daughter, sofia in GF3. for those of you that do not know--"boyhood" was filmed over 12 years using the same cast over that time. kind of remarkable filmmaking, just wish it was a better film. in typical link later form, the soundtrack is top drawer.

I saw Chef. It was awesome. Amazing music to pair with all of the great dishes and towns. Sort of semi autobiographical on Favreau's part and you can tell by the way he acts that the story really meant something to him. Best paired with an empty stomach. (Warning! Two hours of food porn)

Rented the new Robocop last night. Gunfight sequences were pretty good but the rest was boring. Missed the subversiveness of the original. Peter Weller drew you in way more than this new guy. With Michael Keaton and Jackie Earle Haley in it, they could have gone psycho with it again and been incredible, but instead it's just run of the mill action movie.

Also saw Kevin Costner's 3 Days to Kill, way better than I thought it would be. Very good action sequences and great humor. Saw afterwards that it was a Luc Besson flick which explained a lot.

Watched Monument Men. I agree, but the real pictures that were part of the trailer were unbelievable. Amazing story if you think about it.

We watched Snowpiercer this weekend. Not too shabby. A little uneven, but it was fine. We enjoyed it.

What we really liked was the pricing and watching a movie at home while it's still in theaters. It was like $7 on Amazon Video. We don't go the movies all that often because they cost way more than what I want to pay for what usually turns out to be shite, never mind the stupidity of the concession stand prices. We really try to reserve it for event movies, though we don't hit all of them.

BUT, if they offered more movies on demand that are still in theaters for like $7-10, we'd watch a hell of a lot more than we do and pay more for the privilege than we do with Redbox or waiting until it's on demand.

I think the movie industry is currently missing the boat by not doing this and implementing variable pricing. They'd make a killing, although they'd probably piss off their theater partners.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, was thoroughly surprised. Chris Pratt was absolutely great, and believe it or not Dave Bautista was good in his role.

Watched Dolemite for the first time in like 10 years last night. Still is the best worst movie I have seen.

I'm a huge fanboy when it comes to the Mavel Cinematic Universe, but I've never given the X-Men movies (20th Century Fox, not Marvel Studios) much of a shot. My wife and I watched X-Men: First Class last night and thought it was total garbage. It wasn't actively bad but definitely a big steaming pile of "who cares?"

Watching the Five Year Engagement again. Biggest problem I have with this movie is that a large chunk takes place at scUM

Three most recent movies I have seen are The Grand Budapest Hotel, Locke, and Blended.

Grand Budapest Hotel was pretty funny to me. I really enjoyed it. I like the cinematography of the whole movie.

Locke is a British movie that I still don't quite understand but I enjoyed it for what I could get out of it.

Blended is a typical Adam Sandler movie. Very similar to Just Go With It. Had it's funny and heart warming parts

Watched "Horrible Bosses" again last night. You know it's not believable, because Jennifer Aniston is hitting on a nerdy looking dude and he's saying "no"! lol

I really enjoyed the first 2, but the PG-13 rating of this one really bugs me. They're toning down the blood and guts on the off chance that 15 year old boys want to see guys older than their fathers kick ass? Maybe I'm making too much of it. I'll still go see it and hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

Let's Be Cops was hillarious!

I approve this message. I laughed pretty much the entire movie. Even the dumb, try-too-hard jokes were funny.

Good to hear. My wife and I are planning to see it tomorrow and are hoping it's as funny as the previews make it look.

Much funnier than the previews make it look... they saved the good stuff for the movie. And the plot actually isn't too terrible either.

Horrible Bosses is probably my favorite comedy of all time. And Jennifer Aniston just gets better with age, it's unbelievable. Can't wait for the second one!

I think Mel Gibson's villain role is the best in the series.I also think this was probably the best movie in the series, even with the toned down blood and gore.

I saw "The Expendables 3" last night. It was OK. All together, I don't think it was as good as parts 1 & 2. The toned down, PG-13 aspect wasn't a huge deal, but there were some parts of the action choreography that suffered a bit (e.g. cutting away from a scene a bit too fast so nothing too graphic was shown). The action scenes were still really cool and I'm hoping for an unrated Blu-Ray.

Honestly though, even if this film was "R" it would still be the weakest entry in the series. The pace was uneven; it started off with a bang, then slowed down. Too much screen time was given to the young cast members, MMA fighters with zero charisma. The new old cast members (Kelsey Grammar, Antonio Banderas) chewed scenery terrifically but were not really necessary. Harrison Ford seemed out of place. Mel Gibson was awesome, he blew everyone else off the screen. It seemed like there were too many characters with not enough to do at the end. I'm not pumped to buy this entry on Blu-Ray like I was for the first two. It's worth seeing in the theater for the boom factor, but the series certainly took a step back with this entry.

I agree about the MMA fighters I could care less about them that's not why I pay to see the Expendables it's about the old action stars to me. I wish Sly would leave them out of the movies but I'm sure they're there to hopefully pull in some younger viewers who know them from MMA. Yeah Mel Gibson was damn good in this one. I liked Van Damme in the last just wished he'd had a bigger role. Also wished Rourke had a bigger role in the first.
