Someone on the UM board pointed this out, Hayes absent from his teams season preview:
The News' Top 20 preseason football teams: Clarkston poised to repeat as champion | The Detroit News

13. Orchard Lake St. Mary's (5-4), A

Eight starters return on defense, led by DB Tyson Smith (Michigan State), DE/OT Jared Mosley, DT Josh Dabney and DB Lamon Mathison.

One of St. Mary’s best players is sophomore LB Josh Ross. Junior Brandon Tabore will contend with senior Evan Henry for the quarterback spot.

Perfect kid to start of a class. Will probably be a good recruiter. Big loss for us.

I'm going to go ahead and convince myself that any kid who could say those things about their affinity for Notre Dame, and then commit to USC...is a headcase.

I'm not buying this commitment. Hell, this makes even less sense than when Hand spurned scUM for Bama. This is probably just initial culture shock, as for how long I think it'll be before he decommits...

Dude, he just moved to So Cal. He's not coming back to the Midwest. You're gonna have to let THIS one go.

I hope he loses every game of his college career. Not trying to be bitter here, but I fucking hate USC more than any other school in the country. Fuck them. Straight up.

Ah... maybe not. I would bet a month's salary that the kid doesn't know very much about ND - USC and their history of playing each other.

Are you sure you are a Michigan Man? Perhaps in time the grace of Our Lady will find you. It's never too late, my friend.

His whole family moved to Ventura? Maybe he sees C Street or the Jetty firing this winter and gives up on football altogether.

this is the type of commitment that usc gained with their success 10 years ago. i'm not sold on sarkisian and i think/hope we will benefit from his hiring on the field.

Why? Because he brashly committed to USC? ND is still very much in it, and if his comments about ND are genuine, then I don't see him donning the ruby and gold.

Well, this is too bad, but assuming that anyone is going to be Jaylon Smith is pretty over-the-top optimistic.

These things don't bother me much actually. If we keep Coach and his key staff [Harry, for instance, said when he moved his family to Tennessee that he hoped that would be his last move, and he wanted to settle in with his family --- if the head coach there hadn't been a psycho we'd have never gotten him], then these guys are building and will continue to build Notre Dame powerhouses. They'll get some great ones and refine them, and they'll get ones who others think are just average who will be pro-quality players... and the brains of the head coach will out-do almost all the opponents.

There are a LOT of high ceiling athletes out there, and in the end it's gathering a "fair share" of them and outcoaching everyone else. We seem to be doing this in my estimation.

IT'S RECRUITING. HE, LIKE ALL RECRUITS, IS A 16-18 YEAR OLD WHO HAS BEEN TOLD HE'S GOD'S GIFT TO EARTH ALL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. WHAT YOU THINK DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE 98% OF THEM ARE COMPLETELY IRRATIONAL AND 100% DON'T THINK LIKE YOU DO.

That's why.

True. But ND's margin of error is much slighter than nearly every other school. It's painful to watch a top 100 athlete who we would have pulled away from michigan move across the country and commit to our biggest recruiting rival.

That's just a bowling ball on the nuts.
