I heard rumors from kids that played intramural that Michael Floyd could have started on the bball team.

There are far more football players that can hoop than hoopers that can put the pads on.

Meh, that's stretching it. He was physically there (and then some), but he was pretty clearly not a full-time BBall player.

Fact of the matter is that the conditioning and skills for those 2 sports don't cross over as well as some other sports (baseball and football e.g.). That's why so few kids actually pursue it when they get to college. Everett was supposed to run point for the BBall team in his offseason, but that went out the window quickly. Weis made comments about Harangody playing TE, but that would have certainly derailed Luke's basketball career. At some point, you just have to specialize, and basketball with football is a tall order.

The Townsend brothers, in the early seventies, played both basketball and football. Before the second World War, Ed Moose Krause(athletic director) was All American at tackle, and basketball center for the Irish. With a Heisman trophy and ten years in the NBA to his credit, Charlie Ward stands alone as the epitome of a dual sport athlete.

Jeff Samardzija would like a word.

No but seriously, Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders seriously would like a word with you.

I've been waiting for the longest time for ND to have a two-sport athlete in football and basketball. Anyone remember the last person to do it at ND? Probably before my lifetime or memory span.

The last one I remember that actually played extensively for both teams was Joe Howard in 1983-84. Was a quick 5'9" receiver and played guard starting almost half the season. I think he finished his career in the top ten in some of his receiving stats but I'm sure he's been passed by now.

Good recall.

John Carlson played some bball while at ND.

I played against Joe in the Plymouth summer league. He could play. And yes, he was fast like David Rivers fast.

I remember Howard. He was a pretty good receiver and solid guard. Nothing fancy, but solid.

Soso reminds me a little of the best basketball playing football player I ever played with... Chris Carter. Chris was the best basketball player at Five Star in '83.

He is the only football player I've ever played with ... besides Joe Howard that was any good at all. I've played with Chicago Bears players, AZ Cardinals players and assorted Div I guys over the years and you can always tell a football player when he's on the basketball court. Clumsy. Even cornerbacks and wide receivers as odd as it sounds.

UC had Connor Barwin playing bball as an emergency schollie for two seasons. It was ugly at first, but he ended being a solid defensive presence and was good on the offensive boards. He moved from TE to DE after going back to football full time. A lot of moves for that guy lol.

Sean Conner "played" both also. I think he was the backup punter on the '88 team. He had the ring at least...

South Carolina recently had Bruce Ellington. Amazing athlete. Was their #1 WR this past year and averaged 11 a game in basketball.

Per TV still feeling good about Jamabo to be Irish.

UT and OU have decreased their interest
Mixed bag of info on if he will decide before or after OVs
His family is very much on board with Notre Dame

This made me very confused at first but then I looked at UT's recruiting class. Texas already has 2 running backs this class. I'm surprised OU has decreased interest because they only have one running back this class, maybe they're only taking one.

Also, UCLA already has 2 running backs in this recruiting class and they might be getting a third with Ray Ray. I really don't see Soso wanting to have 3 other running backs with him in a recruiting class.

Good point, but then how will he feel about joining a class of 5 RBs at ND, per Loy?

Couple that with us missing on RB last year and he'd be in a strong position to earn early touches with Cam gone and GB/Folston being the only remaining true RBs. Man, I really hope all of this tips the scales in our favor. Would really like Soso and one more RB for this class but I don't think we have the room to accommodate if we want to meet our numbers at every other position.

Josh Adams will also be in the mix.

Agree to disagree. Until I can see him 1. healthy 2. dominating the competition, I don't think he can compete for touches with the other three. Now, he could explode this year but I see it far more likely he changes positions or redshirts to develop more.

We'll see. I'm glad he signed with us but I'm not overly impressed with his film.

Oklahoma is absolutely loaded at RB. They didn't even need to take one in this class, but took one they are very happy with. Now they add him to a stable of 3 Sophomores and 2 Freshman, including some extremely talented options (Keith Ford may start, but Alex Ross and Daniel Brooks apparently had huge springs and Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine came in during June).

Go look at their 24/7 board. They are done at RB in 2015.

A big wave of CBs for him to UCLA have come in the last 24 hours. Would they really recruit 4? I know Soso would have a leg up on their 2 current commits, but that just seems like poor roster management.

Like Sanders and Newsome, I think McCloud will play the slot. Good athlete, and like Russel, he could probably play corner. High school running back, not so much college.

ND has 3 DT's already in the fold, and are recruiting more.

I think maybe what we perceive as a log jam at a position, the staffs do not.

Not saying I agree with it. Just that it's tough for us outsiders to grasp what the big picture goal is sometimes.
