Don't care that we didn't get him. Next! Go Irish!
Cornell said he was gonna be the Terrell Suggs to Hilliard's Ray Lewis hahaha
I won't lie, it does amuse me that the "he gained bad weight" thing keeps coming up as if it lessens the blow...
If he would've remained an ND "lock" and picked the good guys, we'd all be talking about how it's no issue, that Longo would have him in shape in a year, and that other schools were dumb for backing off.

I can only speak for myself but I've been saying this for a long time. I have defended my view on here at length about him being overrated and not being the player that everybody thought he was. Also, everywhere that I look the staff really wasn't recruiting him towards the end of this. Lax has some good connections, TJ spelled it out for us the other day, and no mention from anybody (Loy, Wiltfong, Sampson, etc.) of communication between staff and player. Its not softening the blow, its they just don't think he's as good as other options. You don't see anybody saying anything bad about Hilliard.

Right. All I'm saying is that if the staff was still pushing for him/landed him, despite his "bad weight," no one would have said a thing about him being "fat." Everyone would be all about the weight he's going to lose in a college conditioning program and how it's not a big deal.
But since he's not coming to ND? No one mentions that he's probably going to get in shape at OSU and be a force.

Apparently struggled big time at The Opening

DT. He has the physical gifts to be a 4
DL if he puts it all together. He's nowhere close to the initial 5
ranking he was given on upside as an underclassmen... going to be interesting watching the rankings adjust on guys like him and Town. It's not really a surprise that everyone pulled their offers... it's just more of a surprise that OSU still went all out for him. I'm guessing it was to get to Hilliard.
Right now he's a 3DT. He has the physical gifts to be a 4

Obviously, this opinion won’t ring true with everyone, but a Cornell-type is a dime a dozen in states like Georgia and Florida .. the weeks (more like months) of heavy media/fan hype leading up to their announcements and make-or-break recruiting classes were disproportionate ... being straightforward, it will be an uphill climb to land Byron Cowart, Keisean Lucier-South, Joseph Wicker, Porter Gustin, or Rasheem Green. However, those are some extremely elite guys, and it’s my opinion Cornell doesn’t fall in that category. An elite pass-rusher in this class would be more than ideal, and despite the challenges that lie ahead, Notre Dame is in solid position to fight to land one. And don’t forget last year, albeit it was a unique situation with Brian VanGorder coming aboard late in the recruiting year and taking a near 180-degree turn from how Bob Diaco recruited the line.
Totally agree Ms. Hickey and I expect the next re-rating will start to reflect this. I don't expect it to be too drastic at first but if things don't change it may end up being just that. For example, ESPN still has him at #16. That's absurd!
