From all reports Josh is a good kid and a good ATH but as far as fit it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. This is a special day for him and I'll share some thoughts at a later point. Congrats Josh!

Sounds like they are projecting some bigger upside on this kid as he physically matures. Already a 4*, top 20 RB in the class based on playing 25 pounds lighter as a junior. Throw another 25 pounds of muscle (mostly on his legs) and I think you have an interesting story.

I think BK and Co. have been pretty good at picking these later bloomers out of the crowd. Already an impressive athlete and turns into a monster if he can add 50 pounds relative to his junior tape (I'm assuming he was 175-180).

Seeing how he was just in for II and the staff got a good look at him bulked up significantly from last fall, I have no qualms with the offer and excited for the commitment.

I am surprised to see "bruising big back" labeled here where he looks thin, runs high and doesn't run over hardly anyone in the highlight video. Makes me curious if that is what he is bringing to camps since he really didn't need to do that in HS and coaches in camps may be putting him to that challenge.

Agreed. To be a "bruising big back" usually you have to have:
1. A solid, stocky build.
2. Run with good pad level.
3. Love contact.

Elijah Hood is a power back. Has solid speed and athleticism to go with a powerful build, incredible balance, and great strength. One of the reasons so many people were sour on Ty Isaac was his fumbilitis coupled with being snakebit with some injuries coupled with his running style where he ran around contact. I've yet to watch enough Josh Adams, but GAIII was 6'1" and almost 220 and his style dictated that he was absolutely not a power back. Unless Josh can get up to 230+ (which is questionable looking at this frame) I don't know how someone like that can be labeled a power back.

I like this kid as a LB. I don't like RBs 6'2" and over as a rule.

Here's how I see this year:

The staff is tired of swinging and missing with high 4-star or 5-star kids, and then scrambling to try to get the high 3-star kids with good potential that they have been slow-playing. So this year they are signing the close-calls early as a base--getting them locked in--so they can spend their energy fighting for the bigger fish later in the process.

In other words, they are signing the Kolin Hills and Niles Sykes at the beginning of the cycle, instead of scrambling to sign them later.

Still, I consider this a great ick-up. Kid is an athlete, and you need to load up on athletes! Welcome aboard.

I agree. A lot of people have called for this strategy in years prior when we have crazy depth issues mid-season, then latently complain in the offseason when we get high 3-star and 4-star kids early in the cycle. I'm happy for this kid.

Answers one of my questions. What happens if a spot opens later?

I suspect that his feelings took a little bit of a blow when Franklin told him they were full. I wouldn't worry about a flip.

Just for shits and giggles: he plays level 4A football in PA, the highest. Anzalone played AA.

This is a bit puzzling...I trust the staff, but I guess I thought we were after some bigger fish. Maybe we got a good db here...

Just watched the jr film and it seems he is just learning the game...goes down pretty easily..looks like a balance thing?

No intensity though...tall and skinny...not a good pass blocking combo...

He has a burst getting to the edge though:)

We still are going after bigger fish like Soso, Damien Harris, and Jacques Patrick. Our chances with Patrick and Harris are slim to none, but we do have a very legit shot with Soso. We lead for Ty'Son Williams, but that's about it for running backs.

The staff isn't in a position to be picky at running back. Josh Adams is a good prospect and now the staff can go all in on Soso.

Every team need a "John Turner type of recruit" but if you want to win National Championships, you need the best of the best too. That's why Bama only last year recruited Hand, Humphrey, C. Robinson, T. Brown or Evans among others. It would be unfair to ask the same to ND but i honestly think they should do a better job. Why this year almost every top recruit is not even interested a bit in ND?

+1. This is exactly what they're doing. Because '13 and '14 were really great, this is much more of a "glue" or "gap" class. That doesn't mean they're not targeting some high :s: guys or hoping to hit some home runs, but those are going to be the cherries on top if we win big... not the foundation of the class we're signing up before the season.

The only positions that we actually have NEEDS in this class at are RB and DT. Those are the two positions where if the staff misses they will have a hole.

Every other position is a varying degree of luxury. OL is a huge luxury, CB & ILB much less so. Like I said in the main recruiting thread earlier I think the goal is to get to 16-18 commits before the season and then depending on the product we showcase this fall fill out the rest of the class.

If we want to recruit like this then we need to win more than 8 games. Until then, I like the staff's philosophy this cycle.

Looking at the two running backs already committed to PSU (Andre Robinson and Saquon Barkley), I don't really see them jumping ship as they are both PA kids and aren't being recruited outside of the Midwest.

So unless PSU really shits the bed this year, I doubt any of them jump ship

I like this pickup, he looks very polished at catching the ball out of the slot and getting extra yardage. We need more RB's who can catch that are big and quick

Exactly. The year after we won 12, we signed a 5 star at every level of the defense, and at RB. (Thanks largely to Mr. Golson) We had 8 wins last year. The "glue" kids aren't going to be 5-stars after an 8 win season. We have to have a recruiting strategy based in reality--unless we want to cheat!.

This class will prove to be very valuable for finally solidifying depth at every position, IF we get at least 10 wins this year, and get back in the game as a BSC competitor. I don't think, on the other hand, that this is one of those classes that is going to provide the majority of starters for a championship level team (so far, at least).

8-4 and high academic standards.... We kill it this year, recruiting will get better. Iron sharpens Iron

Bama gets top recruits because they win. I can see it now... "Son, we want you to come be a part of the best college football program in the nation. Maybe the best Dynasty ever, we feel that you are an integral part of keeping our program where it is today etc etc etc

This from TJ on if this impacts our chances with Soso. And some insight on Josh

TJ,

Nope, not at all. Legit shot.

They like Adams a lot and have pursued him for a year, even with the knee injury last year. Excellent Skill/Big Skill Athlete for his size/frame and a skill set and talent quotient well-suited to playing RB, APB, SlotWR, S or even OLB (down the road) at a high level.

Want two RBs (in some combination) this cycle. Doesn't preclude another (or two) of our top guys, starting with Soso.

Lucky I was just about to post that. I liked Tyson Williams a little more but Josh Adams is a good "big" back for this offense. Still kind of wonder why PSU wouldn't let him committ

I believe he wanted to be a RB and they are already have two rbs committed to them. They recruited Adams as an Athlete.

Welcome to Notre Dame, Josh. I've read enough disappointment over his commitment today, that I felt horrible for the kid. We may not have been his first choice, but he committed to the staff, and they accepted, so, I'm more than happy to have him!!!
