It is with intent to do bodily harm. Some of these victims may never fully recover. The criminals playing this game target the weak or susceptible looking.

The stupidity of some kids is beyond comprehension. I'm with the guy at the end: the kid absolutely deserved what he got and he's lucky he didn't get killed. Do these people playing the knockout game ever stop and think about how they'd feel if someone did that to them or their mom, sister, little brother, etc.?

I have no sympathy for a thug who gets the tables turned on them. I know a guy who was a truck driver years ago. Someone stuck a knife to his back and tried to rob him just as he was about to climb into his truck. The driver grabbed his thumper and caught the robber across the temple with it, laying him out cold. He then dragged the thug to the rear of his truck, placed his hands under the truck's rear tires and then drove off, crushing the robbers hands. Hard to argue the thug didn't deserve it. He won't hold a knife to anyone else's back with those hands ever again.

If you're robbing or assaulting people, breaking into someone's home, attempting to rape someone, etc., and they turn the tables on you, tough luck. You asked for it.

2. Referencing the MSM makes you sound like a Sarah Palin nut job.
3. These types of reports have been on CNN, the Today Show, and countless local TV news broadcasts, obviously including the Lansing news, so what exactly is the MSM in your eyes?
4. The question here is whether this activity is "spreading", new, or - since you brought race into this - against white people. Unfortunately for any racists out there, this type of violence has existed for a long time, back in the 90s they called it 'wilding' and reports of 'the knockout game' go back to 2011. Also, most of the victims are the same race as the attackers, as is the case with most violent crime.

Lastly, this video is from November 2013 not June 2014, so I don't know why it's been posted here. That's the month where you'll find most of the news about this issue because it became viral in TV news to talk about it. The reality 8 months later is that there is no statistical evidence that this has ever been anything more than extremely isolated cases.

That deters crime in my opinion. I will give a local example. Drug use really rose in this section of rural MS about 7 years ago and with it came home invasions. Some were to rob the owners for quick cash and some would scope out drug stores & follow people home with a prescription for pain medication. One evening 2 young men (as luck would have it for those that yell racist, 1 was white & 1 was black. They were childhood friends and sad to say, but used to be good kids until addiction) broke in on a 73 year old lady & she unloaded her .22 pistol on them. 1 died and the other is paralyzed from the waist down. According to our local paper, he invasions dropped by over 80% over the next 6 months. I remember all of this so well because it was the first time I had read our local paper and it wasn't just copy and paste from the AP. I am sure many of you guys don't feel the same as I do & I understand. I can see both sides. I just lean toward the side that has the right to carry.

Which brings up a really good point : people that would do such a thing, (without it raising a moral issue), are usually cowards. Not in every case, but in almost every case. These people tend to have narcissistic as well as anti-social issues. So if it gets pointed out clearly to them they are going to get the worst of it, it all comes to a stop. That leaves the true wolves. They only go down with a bullet. Thankfully there aren't many of them.

The real media problem is the wolves are glorified, and made to look more numerous than they are. And the problem with exacting an eye for eye judgment is that we are imperfect in our judgment, and this would give the wolves free reign to crazy with vengeance and hatred. (See Taliban, etc.)

And where's the link to the article mentioning that violence has been dropping for 20 years and the US is as safe right now as it has been at any point in the last 100 years? Haven't seen that thread yet for some reason.

Impulsivity, aggression, violence and criminality drop rapidly when humans reach the late 20s, and this is true in every society in all periods. Young people do things that are not fathomable to middle age adults, and then they become middle age adults and they stop.

I'd definitely love to be wrong about this. Hopefully you're right, but life experience tells me different. I know a lot of kids that did really dumb stuff growing up then turned out OK, myself included, but not intentionally mean and evil stuff. IMO there is a huge difference between doing dumb stuff where somebody could unintentionally be hurt versus setting out to intentionally hurt someone. Don't humans have the ability to tell right from wrong at a very early age?

It didn't used to be like this. It changed during the 2012 presidential election, and hasn't been the same since. I think there are more threads baiting culture war and political fights than there are about the football team and recruiting. It sucks. I used to check this site 20 times a day and participate in good discussions about football. Now I check it once a week to see if we've picked up any commitments, and for the most part I've stopped posting because its all about arguing nonsense. There must be websites and message boards devoted to discussing this stuff. I don't get what it has to do with Notre Dame football or why people come here to talk about it.

I disagree, and love that this site is a community of ND fans that aren't limited to just discussing recruiting, game analysis, etc. IMO it keeps things fresh, especially during the off-season, and is kind of a "one stop" site for all kinds of news that go beyond college football.

As far as the political discussions, that isn't something I'm very interested in, so I usually just stay away from those threads. It's not like these threads are ever in the recruiting section, viewers still have easy access to that info without wading through unrelated topics.
