You're not a realist, because you are interpreting the situation wrong. People are excited we are in it for SoSo. No one thinks he is a done deal. I doubt most people think we lead. But there is reason to believe we got our foot in the door, which is good.

That's not true. Go read the prior page. Paraphrasing select comments:

"I think we land this kid."
"I wouldn't bet against ND here."
"Game over." - in reference to him recognizing the value of academics
"I think ND is the clear leader"

Also, most 5-star kids don't work out anywhere. Unless you are Alabama, you get 1 or 2 a year if you are lucky. So everyone you throw in the mix is a good thing.

Of course the kid is a long shot, but he said the kind of things that indicate ND will be a player. Some of those same things also make Stanford, USC, and UCLA players. Those are not inconsistent.

This topic has been discussed ad nauseam but I don't think high-4 / 5 star kids flame out at other schools as much as ND (especially at the speed positions). ND is academics first, not necessarily a party school, and is not particularly close to home for any of the top guys... those are all unique challenges that most of the southern schools recruiting those kids don't have. ND definitely has clear advantages that other schools simply cannot match; however, at the risk of generalizing, I don't think the top, top recruits value them as much as others.

Sorry if I seem like Debbie Downer as that really wasn't my intention. I just wanted to temper the expectations. I used to be just as optimistic as the Koon (although I never posted as much).... and then the Greenberry decommit happened.

Regarding the whole leaving the state topic. He has sincere interest in out of state programs but he's also getting the regional pull. This is a quote from the rivals 5 star challenge that he gave to the UCLA reporter.

"Kyler Murray just committed to Texas A&M and he's one of my real good friends so he's been trying to get me on the boat for awhile," Jamabo said. "It's kind of working. We're getting there. And Baylor and Oklahoma are two of my favorite schools and have been for awhile."

You make good points. I just think you are in the majority. A few people post that they think that the kid is going to come based on a few comments, but I don't think that represents most IE members by any stretch.

Also, perhaps this is not a popular opinion, but the Southern schools cheat. The kids are heldd to almost no standards, and everyone knows that. I guess I should count that as advantage for them.

Even so, kids like J. Smith, Hilliard, and SoSo are not your typical 5-stars. That is what makes them exciting recruits for ND fans. Jaylon Smith is not going to flame out.

There's a difference between following your team and hoping for the best with these guys and creaming your pants every time they make a positive comment after a visit. After every visit, we hear about how all these guys "have a mature outlook on CFB" or "seem like a real ND man" or "recognize the value of the degree after football" ..... and then 90% go and sign with a Pac12 or SEC school. Seriously, go look... it's almost every time.

I'm a realist that's learned the hard way that many (if not most) 5 star kids don't work out at ND, regardless of them signing on NSD or not. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the visit appeared to go well. But let's recognize the fact that it's still a long shot.

All that being said, go ND!

Gotcha.... just kiddin', no I don't...

Again, if it is ridiculously stupid to "get your hopes up" or be happy about any positive news from a recruit visit... then why pay attention to it in the first place? Seriously, seems like a complete waste of time to follow a kid, or recruiting for that matter, if simply being happy with the result of a positive visit is so worthless.

Following a recruit's thread and posting in the thread isn't the same thing as simply "following your team". You are following a player by reading/posting in his thread and then telling everyone they are stupid, simply for being happy that he enjoyed his visit. Seems to me that you went from one end of the spectrum to the other.

Lightbulb!

I am crying.

Game o-VER!

My game over comment was in directly following my Lightbulb and I am crying line.

I was thinking of Gru. Lightbulb meant that SoSo got the idea. I am crying meant that Gru was funny as hell because he had to explain his emotions. Game over referred to the fact that for the first time in a long time (Maybe since Jaylon Smith) did a five star really "get" and appreciate ND at an intellectual and deeper emotional level. From one visit. So game over didn't mean he would sign, just the visit mission had been accomplished.

From now on I would be much more comfortable with you asking me what I meant than quoting me, most probably out of context. Thanks a lot!

I have a good feeling about this for some reason. Feel like Alford and Cooks will get it done. Kind of anxious to see what his decision is actually.

This is good for us.

Yeah. I know we don't like Jim Mora around here but if UCLA's our top competition for an elite recruit who's not from California, that does seem to bode well for us. In this case I'd certainly rather go up against them than Oklahoma or A&M.

As if #134 Overall isn't still a really freaking good football player.

Honestly what is impressive about Soso is that he is just an athlete. Makes everything look easy. Just wait until he adds some more weight and muscle yet keeps his athleticism. It'll be scary.

I debated even putting this so TIFWIW. Ryan barrow posted on Baylor's 247 board that he thinks Baylor is now in the drivers seat. However, what makes that interesting is apparently Baylor (per their 247 guys) doesn't expect to have room. There is a RB they like better and are waiting for him to commit. I'd go with the Baylor guys on this which goes along with the top 2 of ND and UCLA as stated previously as a possibility.

Tyriek Gray? 100% of his CBs are to Baylor.

Tyreik Gray

If it's really UCLA vs Notre Dame, that'd be awfully interesting considering Soso has 30 CBs on him and none of them are to either UCLA or Notre Dame.
