The dude's also obsessed with Nike gear. Can't get more free top of the line Nike ish than at Oregon.

Custom Nike belly shirts for days...

And yet Jaylon Smith was being called on to start by many, despite Councell and Spond being quality LBs ahead of him at DOG.

Spond would have started and played had he not had to retire and Councell had little experience and we had no depth at the position....made it very easy for jaylon to come in and play right away.

That is meaningless. People, in droves, we're stating that he'd top them all.

If by "quality" you mean "low quality", sure. That's WHY people were excited to see Jaylon play: the production there was not looking too good.

People said Redfield was going to start too, and he didn't work his way in until Diaco was gone and we were at the bowl game. Injuries probably helped speed the transition along. I imagine Jaylon would have at least been 2nd string and given Spond a breather if Spond didn't have to retire. However, I'm glad he was instrumental in helping Jaylon adjust his first year.

I totally disagree and didn't have any problems with the production from the DOG at all.

Same. Spond was very consistent (frankly, better than Jaylon played last year) in 2012 as a drop linebacker. Councell was good before he got hurt.

Smith showed flashes of absolute brilliance. He also got pulled against Stanford because he was getting straight run over and could not hold up at the point of attack. It's a disservice to Spond/Councell to act like they were playing at a Farley level.

Smokescreen, or is he really not set on Oregon?

Makes me wonder if, even though he told staff about visit to Oregon, that BK did the "if you're looking, we're looking" pitch. Maybe that made BB decide to pull back on his commitment and open it back up, dropping ND because we wouldn't give him the chance?

Spit balling but doesn't matter much to me at this point. Get Stidham on board and I am right back where I was in this years recruiting and that is wondering if I will be able to meet Snoop (Lion) Dogg to ask him if Tupac is in fact alive and will be back this year!!

What?

What?

So I am thinking that Barnett's relationship for the ND staff was beyond the "Hey, coach, I've been thinking . . . " stage. I am also thinking the Oregon bagman/athletic supporters involved blew a bunch of sunshine up his ass. Reality may have set in. He was locked into a great program, and in the drivers seat, but with less than a clear shot at walking in and mastering the depth chart. When they asked this very question of DeShone Kizer he said that is what my faith in my abilities is for. I expect to have to work and earn anything. I never got that from Kizer. Maybe the truth of this shortcoming came clear for the Barnett and Oregon camps at the same time. Just spitballin'.

Maybe I wrong but I get the feeling especially now if he's going to visit those SEC schools then he's all about the football and wants nothing to do with being a true student athlete.

I think what happened is that he started getting more and more accolades and hearing that he's got the most upside of the QB's in the class and want to more or less major in football and that is just not going to happen.

See, Oregon recruiting pitch via Justin Hopkins.

Hope he takes visits. The more he sees, the more he'll realize how special ND is.

Why would he want to go to an SEC school to play QB, besides the hot women? I could be wrong but not very many good QBs come out of the SEC to the NFL. Besides maybe Cam Newton.

Talking in recent memory on this.

Matt Stafford and Ryan Tannehill both are starters, if varying degrees of "good"

Tannehill didn't play in the SEC.

Meh, true. So F'n what. Plenty of SEC QBs have excelled in the NFL through the years, including recently. Plus those that just got picked in the '14 draft. NFL gms aren't exactly scared of SEC qbs.

Let's sub Jason Campbell for Tannehill.

Completely agree on this. I was just pointing out that he was before A&M switched conferences. SEC teams are already claiming titles retroactively, let's not give them draft picks too.

He'll be back at Oregon next week, this time with his parents...

Also added Georgia to the visit list for this week; Bama, LSU, UGA, Ole Miss.
