Just to be clear about my opinion...

I think the nCAA should have rule that officially cuts-off communication from other coaches once a kid commits. A kid should have to decommit before otehr schools can talk to him.

HOWEVER, things as they are... I think schools are fine reaching out to express interest in kids, but should not actively recruit them once they are committed (unless they make it clear to their school that they are still looking). Similarly, if a kid tellss the school he is 100% committed, he SHOULD stop talking to other schools unless he tells them he is doing so.

That would just make dickbags like Hopkins more important in swaying kids.

Looking at the kids profile what site is that first rating from? I don't recognize it.

So I don't know the whole Blake Barnett story.

But, Notre Dame is doing the same thing here as Oregon right? So if this kid commits to Notre Dame and put TTU in a bad spot for their 2015 QB it's ok right? This kid didn't do anything wrong right? But Blake did?

Like I said above I don't know the Barnett situation.

I said the same exact thing at the end of last years class.

So I watched any tape that I could find on this kid and came away very impressed. Physically he has all the tools. Needs some work on mechanics but that can be cleaned up. One thing that showed me the most was his progression over time. I started with last years tape and then watched in order some of his spring events. He's getting better and better. Lastly, (this isn't sour grapes) but Barnett has a thin frame. Waist, legs, arms, etc. Jarret has a much better frame and build to add weight.

We know better! lol

Maybe Loy will pull a Hopkins.

Loy isn't an Irish fan. And I don't think he's competent enough to pull something like that off anyway, even if he wanted to.

As petty as it sounds, the Hopkins thing pissed me off because it's just one more example of ND refusing to play dirty and not only getting burned in the process, but getting publicly taunted by the shady middle man who helped make it happen.

We don't employ bag men, we don't lie to recruits or pressure them into committing, and we sure as hell don't have national recruitniks openly shilling for us. We have the best product in the nation, but we frequently get hustled because CFB recruiting is the Wild fucking West, and there's nothing to prevent snake oil salesmen and shady bag men from stealing our recruits.

Makes me feel like our policy of "Do well by doing good" is naive in the current landscape.

I have been with ya for at least a year now... after the title game two years ago, and hearing all the media types just laugh at ND after going unbeaten against a brutal schedule, while winning the APR title in the same season... yeah, there sure as hell ain't no freakin medals for trying these days... and the shady are rewarded so long as they win the score board... those who are shady and don't... well they get probation...

I really like the kids game. Does somethings better than Barnett, and does somethings worse. Kid plays good competition and is a big body.

I did hear he loves Texas, Kingsbury, and his GF....in order. So itd be a hell of a job to get him to SB but with the recent success in Texas and Kelly/Co do a great job a selling the school.

A buddy of mine who sort of knows him (more of a "knows of" thing, but he follows the football team) told me his girlfriend was going to Tech and is a year older, but they're pretty close. No idea if that's 100% accurate, but just passing it along. The GF situation might change, but if he loves Kliff more, that could be trouble.

Also, just to avoid the appearance of creeping this came up in the context of "How the hell did Tech land a 5 star?", not a discussion of his personal life.

Yup.

Ned Starks was the best guy ever.

Morality. Ethics. Etc.

He was beheaded. I'm certain Lannisters would be USC or Bama fans.

I hear ya. But, I think that Leahy, Parseghian, and certainly Holtz all probably had the same, if not a very similar, dilemma. But they stayed the course, and had success. I don't know if the current landscape is conducive to that or not. But, we were just in the NCG, 2 years ago, so I have to think it is possible. The dynastic runs are probably not an option anymore, but success still is.............. I think.

Honestly if I were a QB I'd have a hard time turning down Kingsbury let alone if I were Texas-born on top of it.

Per TJ,

A lot of people think Stidham not only is better than Waller, but also better than Barnett.

That may or may not be true. I offer no preference and to each, his own. Just a comment.

He also said that getting Stidham will be extremely difficult but worth a try.

He throws a tighter ball. His release points are more fluid and consistent. They are similar in running. Barnett has probably more breakaway speed, but is kinda of GA3ish in that he needs to work on his agility. He cant cut without way down. Stidham has a little more wiggle, and more agility, but isnt a breakaway threat everyplay like Barnett...if that makes sense.

Barnett has the bigger arm. Im not sure there is a QB in the country that has his deep ball in the 2015 class. He has worked on his throwing motion and that gives him some more zip on the intermediate stuff. I was really intrigued to see Barnett and his footwork this fall. He wasnt consistent with that his junior year, but it also got better towards the end of the year. Stidham has excellent footwork and consistent footwork. He has better accuracy than Barnett. He really fits stuff into some tight windows. Id love to see an actual game and see his misses. Barnett missed high and forced a lot of stuff. It looks like Stidham goes through progressions, but throws some questionable balls.

The biggest difference is Blake makes most of his plays outside the pocket, and Stidham makes most of his inside the pocket. Barnetts downfall was his horrific offensive line, while Stidham has a very good OL. Obviously you cant switch them and see if Barnett would be more patient but Stidham hangs in there while Barnett is running for his life.

All in all, I think Barnett has the higher ceiling of the two, but Stidham would definitely fit with what Kelly wants/needs a QB to do and I think would end up having a nice career. Barnett is Mariotaesque vs Stidham being Zac Robinson (Oklahoma St qb from a few years ago)

Notre Dame goes to plan B for quarterback recruiting - South Bend Tribune: Football

The second offer went to Jarrett Stidham, a four-star Texas Tech commit from Stephenville, Texas, who also shared the news on Twitter. Rivals ranks him as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 class and No. 50 nationally regardless of position. 247Sports slates him as the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the country and No. 65 overall.
As a junior at Stephenville High, Stidham completed 160 of his 268 passes for 2,687 yards for 30 touchdowns. He rushed 143 times for 975 yards and 16 touchdowns. Stidham, who also held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and Texas A&M, verbally committed to Texas Tech in March.
