Sounds like he's doing everything he can:

Aidan Smith, Justin Tranquill Lead AWP To IMG 7-on-7 Regional

AWP’s headliner is defensive back Justin Tranquill, the nation’s No. 19 safety according to 247Sports, and a prospect that has the ability to be a three-year starter in the Big Ten. He was lock down at cornerback on Saturday, leading AWP in interceptions and also making several pass break-ups. He’s physically ready to make an impact on special teams at the very least as a true freshman, and says Illinois is his best current relationship over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue among others.

“Justin is a great leader for us,” Ledo said. “He’s a national recruit. I think he’s one of the top safeties in the country. I don’t think the region he’s in helps him. I think he needs to get a lot more attention than what he does. He’s a 5-11, 200-pound kid that runs in the 4.4s. He can play safety and corner and we played him corner all day and he didn’t get contested or give anything up.”

I think Ferriita took his spot? no? I think slot WR is out of the question with Sanders and going hard after Newsome and Merriit

I wonder if Drue's experience will cause Justin to wait longer to make a commitment.

I think Justin will wait as long as he can tell Notre Dame just tells him "Justin we aren't offering you" I think if he was as big as Drue you could see any offer down the line. He is a lot more liked I feel by NDnation then Nico ever is/was.

i would fall under that i like him more than nicco category personally as a prospect, but can't be mad about how bad nicco seems to want to be a part of ND.....i still think justin would be a great fit at RB for us

I really like Justin's game. Hope we offer him before he commits somewhere else.

What's mean "their equivalent of an offer"?

Because Ivys don't give athletic scholarships.

Tho the way I've heard they get around that is through need-based aid, so they give them a full ride basically but its not called a scholarship. At least that's my understanding of how it works through a few friends at the Ivys.

Was one of the top performers at MSU's camp:
https://michiganstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1646817

Secondary Coach Harlon Barnett and Head Coach Mark Dantonio had to be impressed with the performance Tranquill had on Sunday. He was easily the biggest play-maker of the defensive back group, snagging 6 interceptions in the 1v1 and 7v7 portion of camp. He also had a solid performance in the testing phase. We clocked him with a sub 7-second 3-cone drill and saw him broad jump over 9-feet. Those are quality marks for a skills position player.

Seeing stuff like that makes me wish he already had an offer because the kid can flat out play at a few different positions. And if we had a more normal sized class I am sure he would already. Has there been any buzz about him getting one at camp from us?

Since his brother goes here, I bet we'll get a second chance!

It's disappointing that he is not coming to Irish Invasion, because he has the versatility to provide depth on both sides of the ball at a number of positions. As much as I really like him though, it's important to note that as an overall athlete he's largely inferior to someone like CJ Prosise on every level (smaller, slower, less explosive)... so it's relatively easy to see why major programs might be slow playing him a little as he doesn't have your prototypical "NFL" measurables for any position.

did he really choose to go to a 7on7 tournament than compete at II?

I love that he places his team, (even a 7on7) ahead of his individual goals. Really hope in the end we have a place for this young man.

How does he compare with our safety from Nevada?

He's better in every aspect except maybe technique. Bigger, stronger, faster with higher upside than Nicco. Both have A+ intangibles and can probably fill similar roles but Tranquill has far more NFL potential, and could even play on the offensive side of the ball.
