Jameis Winston Decision 2pm

I know you didn't, and my comment wasn't directed at you but rather those that do judge his intelligence by the way he talks. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I want to take a minute to thank you and everyone on this thread. It is a remarkably non-personal discussion. I don't think anyone has taken much said personal. I am pleased. My comments were never directed at anyone on IE and I am sure that no one thinks your were!

Further, I understand your perspective exactly. And I do not expect you to change your opinion on the basis of what anyone says here.

My intent is to open eyes and minds to what could be behind the façade. Not much more.

Thanks again brother of Our Mother!

Or, perhaps, we have a massive problem at the campuses of major Universities in this country.

I will look for it, but I think I just heard rumblings of it in the news in the last couple of days.

My gut feeling is the Feds could be mobilizing like they did when they turned the IRS loose on the mob, after the revenuers failed prohibition!

EDIT : Here is a quote from an editorial I found on CNN.

(CNN) -- The U.S. Department of Education announced recently that it is investigating 55 universities and colleges for their failure to properly handle sexual assault cases on campus.

The list includes a number of prestigious institutions, including Harvard, Emory, UVA, William and Mary, Tufts, the University of Michigan, and my alma mater, Princeton, where a 2008 university survey found that one in six women students had experienced nonconsensual sexual contact while enrolled.

I kept wanting to laugh, the artistry and depiction, especially laying football over shopping and the general depictions of security guards, and the thieving policeman behind the two-way mirror in interrogation . . . this was truly a work of art.

Hunter you are becoming a formidable video poster, reps, sir!

I think he just wants to make sure that his son doesn't end up with any butter on his hands.

For eff's sake. No one is more strongly in favor of stepping up benefits to DI NCAA football players than I am, but are we really supposed to provide them with a CONSCIENCE now? Sorry, Mr. Winston, but that was YOUR job.

Let's hope he was taken out of context. Reading the above-linked article, I can see how he might have been. But as presented, those quotes don't look great.

Let's see, Dad doesn't do a very good job of raising his kid to understand the difference between right and wrong, then wants FSU to take over his parenting duties. Seems reasonable to me!

So his dad is wanting an 'Uncle Nate.' Basically a bag man to take the fall so his son doesn't have to.

I think some of you may underestimate the impact of winning the Heisman trophy for some of these younger guys who are forced to return to school due to the NFL draft eligibility requirements (i.e. 3 years removed from HS). The added attention is not easy to deal with. If I were his parents, I'd be asking for the same thing.

No doubt about that ... but what's it got to do with stealing crab legs?

Maybe so but nobody wanted to give JFF a free pass for his antics. As much as I like Winston on the field, he isn't getting a free pass from me either.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Winston or JFF ever saying they wished to not be considered for the Heisman due to all the attention that winning it would bring upon themselves. Nobody forced them to accept scholarships to major D1 programs and put themselves in the spotlight. This sort of stuff is part of the package. Don't shoot for the glory then whine about the attention that comes with it. Time to grow up, put your big girl panties on, and deal with life - good and bad - like an adult.

Nothing. I didn't say anything about crab legs. I'm talking about being a Heisman winning student-athlete who must return to school and the ridiculous amount of attention that brings. You don't think Tebow needed special arrangements for security?

You're looking at this as Mr. Winston wants someone around his son so he doesn't make dumb decisions (i.e. his "conscience" as you said). I don't see it that way.

That's fine. That's not what I was talking about. Winston should be held accountable for his actions. His father wants FSU to provide more security and supervision due to his heightened popularity as a Heisman winner. Wasn't everyone blaming Manziel's parents for not doing anything to help him last year? Now Mr. Winston is trying to help and he's getting mocked for it?

"This sort of stuff", like winning the Heisman trophy, only happens to one out of 9,000+ division 1 football players. I wonder what would happen to you if one day you woke up and your life as you knew it had completely changed. Your every move was being watched. Your fame multiplied by who knows how much, but a lot. You could not walk down the street, or on campus, without everyone watching and some even engaging themselves with you. And guess what, you're not an adult, and even if you were, you're incapable of providing the security and protection needed.

Now imagine it's not you, but your child. You wouldn't ask the school for the same security and protection Mr. Winston is asking for? Life is different for Heisman winners, especially those that must go back to school. That's all I'm saying.

You done making excuses for the kid yet? I realize you've spoken to him and all that...but man...seriously.

And what exactly am I making excuses for?

That wasn't worded right. Read it back to myself, definitely sounded offensive. My bad on that one 247.

You seem really sensitive about anything involving Jameis.
You seem quick to jump to defend him when someone criticizes him.

We all realize winning a Heisman is a huge weight on his shoulders.
Hell...just being a starter at FSU has gotta be a massive weight that most of us haven't, nor ever will experience. Can't even imagine doing it at that age. But a bunch of guys do, and don't get caught pulling this stuff.

Hopefully he can keep his powder dry and keep his head on straight from here on out.
My FSU following friends would love that. I'd have less things to poke fun about though. Those crab leg memes are pretty funny, I can't imagine what he gets from his buddies because of it.

I'm all for Fisher saying he won't suspend him, as the baseball team is taking care of the crab leg punishment, being the active sport and all.

Now on a side note...wouldn't anyone having a 24/7 handler be a huge violation?

I have watched JW since he was in 7th grade. He has displayed that entitlement attitude since then. Sorry, but if he can't act like an adult, without someone there to hold his hand, then he can choose a different line of work. Who's gonna hold his hand when he signs that first NFL contract for millions? Time for JW to grow up... no different than JFF.

Yeah, he definitely needs to man up and get his shit together.

Any thoughts on his NFL potential?

Think he will be lights out when he gets there. Got some work to do but he appears well on his way. He needs to give up baseball though.

It's not that I'm sensitive to anything involving Winston. It's just annoying to hear people call him dumb for the way he talks or convict him of rape based on what they read on the internet or make jokes because his father believes he needs security.

My point tonight was simply about going back to school as a Heisman winner. A lot of guys win the Heisman and go right to the NFL. They never have to attend another class after they've won the Heisman. They are "adults" and about to become "professionals". But lately guys like Tebow, Manziel and Winston won a Heisman and then had to go back to school. I've seen first hand what winning the Heisman means for these guys. It's unlike any other experience student-athletes must go through and you better believe they need security and protection.

But, I'm no voice of reason. I'll let you guys get back to bashing Mr. Winston for wanting his son protected while under FSU's care as a college student. I get it. He's a celebrity. Let's all poke fun and laugh at the idiot rapist who needs a babysitter to make sure he doesn't steal crab legs. That's a lot more interesting narrative.

Winston needs security and protection from himself way more than he needs it from everything else. There's a reason why his dad has a vested interest in seeing him finish the next year without getting into any more trouble... and we can all guess what that is. Nothing JW has done outside of football while at FSU has anything to do with him winning the Heisman. It has to do with his poor judgment.

Nothing wrong with his dad's concern while he is at FSU. But the responsibility starts with his son. And, up till now, JW has failed miserably.

But I will continue to miss the point... as you say.

Since it only happens to ONE student per year, do you suggest that ONLY Heisman winners get around the clock security? What about the Outland winner? Or the Maxwell winner? The Nagurski winner?

It is entirely unreasonable. He is not a foreign dignitary, and last I checked, Heisman winners never received security before, certainly not Tebow.

This is just making excuses for his actions, period.

Did Archie Griffin get extra security while at OSU?

Did Herschel Walker get extra security while at UGA?

Did Sam Bradford get extra security while at OK?

Did Roger Staubach get extra security while at Navy?

Did Bush or Leinart get extra security while at USC?

Did Detmer get extra security while at BYU??

The answer to all of those questions is no, they did not.

So why should Winston get it? Just because he is a redshirt sophomore??

Please. These guys want to be in the limelight, be treated like superstars from the second they arrive on campus, and then have the audacity to act shocked when their actions have consequences??

And JFF deserved a lot of flak for what he did after he won the Heisman for sure, but he never was accused of or did anything remotely close to what Winston has or has been accused of doing, which is why his NFL stock immediately began to drop....and which is exactly the reason that Winston's father wants him guarded like the POTUS, apparently.

Not specifically towards Winston, but the long list of CFB players that get arrested yearly. But imagine of they were like Rees. No athleticism and couldn't outrun the police. Their arrest record would be 3 times as long.

I understand what you're saying, but it still starts with himself and making good decisions. Did he rape that girl? I don't know, but he certainly made a poor decision that put himself there. He shouldn't need anyone telling him not to steal crab legs. It's foolish to expect a school to supply a bodyguard to keep people away from him.
