haha... I figured that PennStHater couldn't just let this story stay in th PSU thread.

Franklin is a scumbag. Perfect fit for Pederast State University.

What TJ said about it

This coach is well aware of the rape incident involving his former players.

This accusation, if true, would surprise no one who knows or is familiar with this coach. Likely including the several NFL and premier college teams who did extensive due diligence on him last fall/winter and immediately by-passed any thought of his hiring.

There is a serious dossier building on this coach. He wouldn't be given a second's chance at even the thought of a potential hire at ND.

Just my own three cents here.

Franklin is a POS. From his comments about assistanct coaches having to have hot wives to all that went on with the Vandy rape. I was shocked when PSU hired him as he seemed like one of worst possible candidates if the school wanted to move away the Sandusky molestation scandal.

There are people on this board that wanted this guy to be a potential future hire for Notre Dame. Many of us that thought he was a peice of garbage were told we didn't know what we were talking about...

Just a reminder...

Yeah, I think it's honestly pretty widely known that he has baggage... the same way everyone in the industry knew that Tosh had baggage, or a myriad of other coaches. This is what I said on ISD a few hours ago in a similar thread:
I know for a fact that there are some universities that looked at Franklin as a candidate, and in doing their due diligence saw the rape case as a BIG red flag. From the beginning of that saga there were rumors that he either attempted or instructed others to destroy evidence.

And Hollywood chimed in to say that USC is one of those such schools, and you can probably guess the others... think about virtually anywhere where Franklin was rumored a candidate or front runner and then mysteriously wasn't even in the discussion a couple weeks later.

There are people on this board that wanted this guy to be a potential future hire for Notre Dame. Many of us that thought he was a peice of garbage were told we didn't know what we were talking about...

Just a reminder...

This really is the million dollar question. Is being, as you put it, "garbage" mutually exclusive from being a great CFB coach? When you look at the CFB landscape, the scummiest guys often tend to be the most effective. Would you want someone like Franklin representing your University? I think that question differs by the fan, and is a tough one to answer.

PSU absolutely knew what they were getting with Franklin. A school with the most heinous rape cover up in scholastic history chose through their own volition to hire a coach with red flags pertaining to an ongoing rape case. It's fucked up on so many levels... at the same time, they knew they were signing a guy that would be worth top 10 classes and had charisma/energy for days. It was a calculated risk, and I think in the end it will pay off for PSU. I don't see how anything comes of this for Franklin even if the rumors and smoke has always been there.

I've never been impressed with Franklin, but let's not pretend that Kelly hasn't been criticized in the past for his handling of some off-the-field issues.

Never said he'd be good for Notre Dame, but he's certainly done some amazing things at Vandy. Sure seems like he's a bad guy though.

I would not be in too much of a hurry to condemn Franklin just yet on this allegation. The attorney who made the allegations is well known for making some pretty wild statements. I am not saying Franklin is innocent... just don't know based on the facts in the case. If there's proof that Franklin hindered the investigation in any way, it will come out. But simply taking the word of a high profile, notorious attorney as fact at this point is risky.

I don't remember anyone arguing that he was a saint, just that he was a good recruiter and a good coach.

Let's wait until the whole story/facts are out.
Hearing some of the reactions (Chicago radio is the worst) remind me of the reactions to some of the allegations towards Notre Dame the last few years.
Notre Dame players get away with rape, Notre Dame coaches kill their kids, Teo is lying/gay, etc.

I want to scream at my radio when talk show hosts are ripping us with little knowledge of the facts and this may just be similar.

I just cannot understand it for the life of me.

As Pa Golden Tate Fan stated: "Their administration is so dysfunctional. They also hired former FSU President Eric Barron."

Because Barron was responsible for sitting on the Winston thing for a year. And he has his hand prints all over the dysfunctional administration mechanics that made that sexual assault case such an incredible fiasco. Next to the four-year deep-six on the Gibbons mess at Michigan, no case that I can think of has been more bungled, longer. So you are going to put someone like him at a place where they looked away for 15 or 20 years?

Birds of a feather . . .

He became FSU president in '09, well after that case. But would you like to hazard a guess as to whether other FSU football players have been accused of or convicted of sexual assault in the last five or six years?

Making waves already. If he can get facility upgrades approved, it's only going to help his already impressive recruiting results.

...if he was surprised when Franklin left.

"I was. I was really surprised. As I said before, he repeatedly told us, 'I'm not leaving, no matter what," the sophomore said. "You guys don't have to worry. He even took it so far as to break out in tears as he always does, you know, and say, 'I'm not leaving.'

"And then, right after the bowl game, I mean, no warning, no nothing. He just disappeared."

Then came the follow-up question of whether Franklin talked to the players about it.

"No. He came back and said, 'I'm sorry,' and cried again," Butler said.

That got some laughter from the dozen people or so who were still around at that point.

Another reporter followed up by asking if the players "got leery of [Franklin's] schtick." Butler asked for a clarification, at which point the reporter said, "You seem to think some of it was an act."

To which Butler responded:

"I guess so. You could say that. He was a big camera guy. He loved the camera, absolutely. You could say that."

This kind of thing happens with multiple coaches every year. BK faced many of the same complaints when he left Cincy.

At least BK set his players down and told them. I don't remember any complaints that he kept saying he isn't going anywhere, but I may be wrong.

Any coach who leaves is going to catch flak though. That's just part of the business.

There were lots of accusations that he lied to his players and then bolted (before the Sugar Bowl with an undefeated Cincy team). Gilyard was particularly vocal about it.

It seems pretty par for the course to me. Coaches do it a lot. Crappy, but it's the trend.
